What is Science?
• Science is a process, resulting in conclusions, generalizations, theories, and laws
• The process of science is often confused with a fixed set of beliefs
• Over time, Science makes increasingly better approximations about how the world works– Example: The Food Pyramid
What is Science?• Science cannot deal with things that cannot be tested by observations
• Science does not deal with questions that involve values
• The criterion by which we decide whether a statement is in the realm of science is: Whether it is possible, at least in principle, to disprove the statement
Scientific Method• Scientific method refers to a body of techniques for
investigating phenomena, acquiring new knowledge, or correcting and integrating previous knowledge.
