Future Public transport ?

With the high growth of vehicular traffic (8%) and resulting pollution levels the state government has been trying to develop a strategy for mass transport system

The state government has set up a company to look out for various options for mass transport and is even collecting revenue through cess on petrol & diesel

This year the government of Karnataka and the Indian government have signed an MOU to setup a metro rail project on the lines of “Metro Rail” presently being executed in Delhi by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC)

DMRC is been also given the additional charge to execute the Bangalore metro rail project

Financing Issues & CDM

Government of Karnataka contribution - 74 Crores A special purpose vehicle (SPV) will be set up to raise funds

(Finance corporations, Foreign Banks) Financing is a Major issue for implementation of the metro

rail project Past experience in many countries shows the system is

heavily subsidised by the government Under this circumstances, CDM option can be looked upon

for assisting the financing, since the project has vast savings in emissions & fuel consumption
