MENSAHE

Pagbati ang ipinaabot ko sa mga mamamayan ko ng

Brgy. Matanag Atimonan, Quezon kung saan ang pisikal,

sosyal at emosyonal na kahandaan ay nilalang at pina

uunlad tungo sa kaunalaran ng Barangay. Sa mga

mamamayan na buong pagmamahal na sumusubaybay,

sumusuporta sa mga namumuno na siyang nagiging susi,

instrumento at nagbahangi ng kanilang kaalaman tungo sa

darating na magandang bukas. Ang munting tagumpay ay

siyang nagbukas ng pinto sa pagtahak at pagbuo ng

mumunting pangarap at magandang karanasan sa buhay,

ngayon at bukas at sa Poong Maykapal. Sa biyayang

ipinagkaloob sa bawat isa walang hanggang pasasalamat.

MENSAHE

Mahalaga ang kamulatan ng mamamayan sa mga impormasyon ukol sa

bawat barangay ng Atimonan. Ang magbigay ng konkreto at angkop na mga

datos ang layunin ng Socio-Economic Profile ng mga Barangay. Ito rin ang

magsisilbing matibay na batayan upang mabalangkas ng Pamahalaang Bayan

ang mga programang pangkaunlaran na ang mamamayan ang higit na

makikinabang.

Ang ating mamamayan ang salamin ng kaunlaran ng bayan kaya ang

progreso ng apatnapu’t dalawang barangay ay pinapahalagahan ng Lokal na

Pamahalaan ng Atimonan. Ang Socio-economic Profile ang testimonya na patuloy

ang pag-unlad ng ating bayan.

Punumbayan

VISION

Isang progresibong pamayanan na may luntian at malinis na

kapaligiran. May mamamayang huwaran sa mabuting asal,

may pamunuang tapat na naglilingkod sa Barangay at

mamamatang nagkakaisa at may masaganang pamumuhay.

MISSION

Bigyan ng panahon at tuparin ang mga sinumpaang

tungkulin ng walang pag-aalinlangan at patuloy na labanan

ang kahirapan. Maiparating sa mga mamamayan ang tapat

na paglilingkod at pagsikapang maiangat ang antas ng

edukasyon upang magkaroon ng mga mamamayang

nagkakaisa at nagtutulungan tungo sa kaunlaran.

1. HISTORICAL BACKGROUND

KASAYSAYAN NG BARANGAY MATANAG

Sa pagitan ng Gumaca at Atimonan sa baybayin ng isang malaking ilog na

kilala sa tawag na bahay buwaya, matatagpuan ang nayon ng Matanag sa dulong hilaga ng

nayon ng Inalig. Sang-ayon sa mga nakababatid, ang Matanag ay anak ng Inalig.

Noong unang panahon, ang mga nayong ito ay kagubatan. Sa kasipagan ng

maraming taong nakatatanda na patuloy sa pagbubungkal ng lupa ang lugar na iyon ay

naging sakahan kung kaya patuloy na dumami ang mga magsasaka at nanirahan at

itinatag na isang sitio.

Subalit dahil sa lawak ng sakop at layo sa sentro ng Barangay Inalig, hindi nila

nalalaman agad ang mga kautusang bayan na dapat tuparin. Ang hihip ng tambuli ay hindi

rin nila marinig, kaya’t minarapat ng mga taga Matanag na humiwalay ng tuluyan sa

Barangay Inalig.

Noong 1922, pinasimulang maging nayon ang Matanag. Matanag ang naging

pangalan ng nayong ito sapagkat ang napakaraming kahoy sa pook na ito na kung tawagin

ay tang-ag.

Ang mga taong nagsipagtatag at nanirahan dito ay ang mga angkan nina Roman

Par, Rosendo Par, at mga Niala. Sa katunayan sila ay may malalawak na lupain sa nayong

ito.

2. PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS

Barangay Matanag is one of the inner barangays of Atimonan, located about 19

kilometers away from town’s poblacion. This barangay is 14 kilometers away from National Highway bounded on the north by Barangay Del Pilar Gumaca, Quezon, on the south by Barangay Inalig, on the east by Barangay Ilosong, Plaridel Quezon and on the west by Barangay Rizal, Unisan Quezon.

It has a total land area of 472.5146 hectares per record of Municipal Assessors Office composed of six puroks- Purok I, Purok II, Purok III, Purok IV, Purok V and Purok VI. Topography of the barangay is mostly mountainous. Almost 99 % of land is agricultural. Definitive data were specified below:

3. SOCIO-ECONOMIC SECTOR

RHU Survey of 2014, showed that Brgy. Matanag had a population of 334. There are more male than female with distribution revealing 70.05% of the total population belong

to ages 10 – 59 years old; 21.25% under 1 year old to 9 year old and 8.69% belonging to

60 years old and above. This shows that Brgy. Matanag has almost equal in number for working and dependent population.

School going population (pre-school, elementary, secondary and college) is computed at 52% of the total population and the most common religion is Roman Catholic.
