BAROQUE & ROCOCO The Baroque is often thought of as a period of artistic style easy to interpreted detail to produce drama, tension, exuberance, and grandeur in sculpture, painting, architecture, literature, dance, and music. The style began around 1600 in Rome, Italy and spread to most of Europe. In Baroque architecture, new emphasis was placed on bold massing, colonnades, domes, light-and-shade (chiaroscuro), 'painterly' colour effects, and the bold play of volume and void. In interiors, Baroque movement around and through a void informed monumental staircases that had no parallel in previous architecture. The example of Baroque architecture is the Cathedral of Morelia Michoacan in Mexico. It built in the 17th century by Vincenzo Barrochio, it is one of the many Baroque cathedrals in Mexico. Besides, Baroque churches are also seen in the Philippines, which were built during the Spanish period. In painting, Baroque style featured "exaggerated lighting, intense emotions, release from restraint, and even a kind of artistic sensationalism". Rococo is an 18th-century artistic movement and style, affecting many aspects of the arts including painting, sculpture, architecture, interior design, decoration, literature, music, and theatre. It developed in the early 18th century in Paris. Though Rococo originated in the purely decorative arts, the style showed clearly in painting. These painters used delicate colors and curving forms, decorating their canvases with cherubs and myths of love. Rococo architecture, as mentioned above, was a lighter, more graceful, yet also more elaborate version of Baroque architecture, which was ornate and austere.

BAROQUE & ROCOCO

The Baroque is often thought of as a period of artistic style easy to interpreted detail to

produce drama, tension, exuberance, and grandeur in sculpture, painting, architecture,

literature, dance, and music. The style began around 1600 in Rome, Italy and spread to most

of Europe. In Baroque architecture, new emphasis

was placed on bold massing, colonnades, domes,

light-and-shade (chiaroscuro), 'painterly' colour

effects, and the bold play of volume and void. In

interiors, Baroque movement around and through

a void informed monumental staircases that had

no parallel in previous architecture. The example

of Baroque architecture is the Cathedral of Morelia

Michoacan in Mexico. It built in the 17th century

by Vincenzo Barrochio, it is one of the many Baroque cathedrals in Mexico. Besides,

Baroque churches are also seen in the Philippines, which were built during the Spanish

period.

In painting, Baroque style featured "exaggerated

lighting, intense emotions, release from restraint, and even a kind of artistic sensationalism".

Rococo is an

18th-century artistic movement and style, affecting

many aspects of the arts including painting,

sculpture, architecture, interior design, decoration,

literature, music, and theatre. It developed in the

early 18th century in Paris. Though Rococo originated

in the purely decorative arts, the style showed clearly

in painting. These painters used delicate colors and

curving forms, decorating their canvases with

cherubs and myths of love.

Rococo architecture, as mentioned above, was a lighter, more graceful, yet also more

elaborate version

of Baroque

architecture,

which was ornate

and austere.
