SMOKE ALARM LEGISLATION SMOKE ALARMS

From January 1st 2017 every new or significantlyrenovated Queensland residence will need to befitted with photoelectric, intreconnected smokealarms.Any smoke alarm being replaced after 1/01/2017must be a photoelectric smoke alarm. All houses built before 1/01/2017 which are soldor leased, has until 1/01/2022 to comply with the new regulations. All owner-occupied private dwellings will need to comply with the legislation by 01/01/2027.

Where must alarms be placed?

What type of smoke alarm?

Smoke alarms are required to be placed:* on each level* in every bedroom* in hallways which connect bedrooms and the rest of the house* if there is no hallway, between the bedrooms and other parts of the storey* if there are no bedrooms on a level, at least one smoke alarm must be installed in the exit path from the dwelling

* 240v mains powered photoelectric interconnected smoke alarms or* Photoelectric interconnected alarms powered by a sealed 10 year bettery

FACT: YOU CAN’T SMELL

SMOKEWHILE YOU’RE

SLEEPING If the fire doesn’t kill you. The smoke will.

Photoelectric

Interconnected

InHome Safety Solutions offer a no obligation smoke alarm inspection and report as part ofour Community Awareness program.

Wireless

Interconnection of your smoke alarms meansthat when activated your alarms have the abilityto “talk” to each other.Simply put when one alarm is activated all othersmoke alams are activated. This is by far the most effective method for youto know of a fire hazard in your home.In a fire, seconds count and seconds save lives.

Photoelectric smoke alarms are more responsive than the older ionisation type smoke alarms indetecting a smokey or smouldering fire, which isthe most common type of household fire. The photoelectric smoke alarm “sees” the smoke rather than “smells” the smoke.

Interconnecting your smoke alarms:Hard Wired:- which means additional electricalwork and the cost of an electrician. OR

Wireless:- which uses a radio frequenecy signal unique to your home, no extra wiring, no electricianand more cost effective.

FACT: 3/4 of all residential fire deaths in Queensland happen in homes without smokealarms.FACT: Nearly 1/2 of all residential fires inQueensland occur between 12am & 8am, whenpeople are sleeping.
