    Two FaceFormer district-attorney Two-Face (Harvey Dent) is obsessedwith committing crimes themedaround duality and opposites. Hemakes major decisions by flippinga two-headed coin on which oneof the faces is scarred. One side

    of his face was scarred by agangster in court throwing acid athim. Over the years, he hasreformed at various times, withhis face being surgically repaired,

    only to later adopt the alias of Two-Face again.

    The Penguin (Oswald Chesterfield) is a deviouscrime-boss who is seldom seen without one of histrick-umbrellas, and performs crimes based onbirds. The Penguin uses his nightclub, the IcebergLounge, as a front for his criminal activities.

    Mr . Freeze

    Mr. Freeze (Dr. Victor Fries) is a scientist whoseinvention of a freeze-gun went terribly wrongwhen it accidentally caused cryogenic chemicals tospill on himself. He now uses frozen weaponry andmust wear a refrigerated ice-suit to survive. In TheAnimated Series and later in the comics it wasrevealed this was due to him trying to help hiswife, who was frozen due to a terminal illness.

    Clay Face

    Preston Payne sufferedfrom hyperpituitarism, so heworked at S.T.A.R. Labs to searchfor a cure. He obtained a sampleof the then-living Matt Hagen'sblood, isolating an enzyme whichhe introduced into his ownbloodstream. However, his fleshbegan to melt, so he built ananti-melting exoskeleton to notonly preserve himself, but to alsoprevent him from touchinganyone, as he also gained theability to melt people with atouch (although he soon learned

    that he needed to spread hismelting contagion onto others tosurvive). He later met and fell inlove with Sondra Fuller, and thetwo had a son named Cassius

    "Clay" Payne (who later becamethe fifth Clay face.)

    Hush

    Hush (Dr. Thomas Elliot) targetsboth Batman and BruceWayne (despite the fact thatthey were friends inchildhood). Although his aliasoriginates from a nurseryrhyme, Hush lives up to it byusing manipulation and guileinstead of "noisy signatures."

    Mad Hatter

    The Mad Hatter (Jervis Tetch) was inspired by the lunacy of Alice's Adventures inWonderland to commit crimes. He uses his mind-control technology to bend peopleto his will, and is never seen without a large and fantastic hat. He desires Batman'scowl, even if it means killing him.

    The Riddler

    The Riddler (Edward Nigma) is a criminal mastermind who has a strange compulsion tochallenge Batman by leaving clues to his crimes in the form of riddles, puzzles, andword-games. He often carries a question-mark cane around with him. He recentlylearned Batman's identity, but kept it a secret to prevent Ghul from learning he hadused the Lazarus pits without permission.
