THE WORKS

“I believe humans get a lot done, not because we’re smart, but be-cause we have thumbs so we can make coffee” - Flash Rosenberg. Ever since the 1500’s coffee has dominated our social reason and incentives. The love of coffee has exponentially grown in today’s so-ciety becoming one of the most sought after drinks in the world. This love may well be the basis of our social experiences, the opportunity we seek to build relationships. Hayden believes it to be.

Hayden Lind, a mechanic from Manawatu, N.Z., recently endeav-oured into owning part of a franchise named Streetwise. Through a coffee cart in Sanson he brought an eye for producing quality and supporting the community. It is recognised for “awesome coffee and awesome service”, to improve this high customer satisfaction is Hayden’s intention. In early 2011 he transitioned from a ‘9 to 5’ me-chanic employee into a business owner.

His incentive, to build a community derived from a love of people and coffee.

His mindset as he entered this new experience was to grow his char-acteristics needed to go beyond the desire of making profit, into building a community that grows around this coffee cart. At the New Zealand Business and Franchise Expo in August 2011, Streetwise cof-fee was voted the “show stopper”, the visitors describing the cart as a quirky, high impact coffee unit. The perfect way to stop people in their busyness. Hayden’s high work ethic and desire to succeed has driven him in a search to find ways to grow this franchise, he states: “the challenge is growth”, this challenge he seeks to accomplish to the highest standard. He believes that this growth will come if he

seeks to always offer the best coffee, while giving the customer recognition. Hayden believes, “to be able to laugh with and remember the customers’ orders” will result in them wishing to come back. If his cart shows enthusiasm and produces consistent quality to the highest standard, he will build his customer interaction thus building a com-munity around coffee. Streetwise’ statement captures this:

“We love making coffee for people who love coffee”.

Regardless of where Hayden ends up in the next ten years, his work ethics will remain the same, to build community through quality and positive interaction. He loves the op-portunity to talk to his customers, to find ways to build re-lationships regardless of how long he is able to spend with them. He sees his customer base as a community, where he can have a positive influence on those who strug-gle to find time to relax. “I seek to find time to inspire and encourage people, despite the limited time I can have with them. I want to make that time they take to breathe, count”.
