Brothers Too WinemakersEvery now and then it is nice to sit back, relax and enjoy a great glass of wine. But think about how much better it would taste knowing you made it yourself! Or what if you’re trying to save money for your wedding? Bottling your own wine for the tables is sure to save a few bucks

and makes your day extra special.

“We aim to have a relationship with the customer,” said owner Steve Trickett. “You get to know quite a bit about them. It’s a service business.”

There are a number of winemakers in the Langley area and what Trickett believes sets his business apart is their customer service. He said it is important for the owner to be visible and accessible to the

customers and that you don’t always find that with branch locations.

Opening in 1997, Trickett and his brother Tom chose Langley to set up shop simply because it was their hometown.

“We were looking for something to do together,” he said.

Trickett had been given a bottle of home-made wine from a friend and thoroughly enjoyed it. He figured it was something he and his brother could do too. It took some convincing but six months later his brother agreed. They

held their grand opening in April of 1998.

The original plan was to have each brother work six months of the year at the store (Trickett was still working), however that wouldn’t work out. Sadly, a short time into the venture, Trickett’s brother was diagnosed with cancer and died in 2000.

“I wanted to keep the name anyway,” he said. He added that it helps pay homage to the memory of his brother.

Trickett thinks making your own wine is a better alternative to buying from the stores for one simple reason. Cost. It is much more cost effective to bottle your own wine, either at the store or in your own home.

“[It’s] much cheaper. It’s a legal way to avoid the taxes [you normally pay],” he said. “[There will be] a considerable difference even after the HST.”

Brothers Too Winemakers isn’t just about making your own wine on their site. They also sell kits and equipment that allows customers to make wine in their own home. In addition people can have custom labels made for occasions such as weddings or fundraisers.

“We aim to increase that side of the business, not just be an ‘on premise’ wine maker,” Trickett said.

Additionally, Brothers Too also offers discounts for seniors and has donated to charitable fundraisers in the past.

“Recently we provided kits to a woman doing the relay [for life], at no cost to her,” Trickett said.

Easy to find, Brothers Too Winemakers are located just off the Langley By-Pass after Glover Road. Stop in, bottle up enough wine to last till New Years and enjoy the fruits of your labour. Call 604-534-2762 for more information.
