First Five Months

Quality of Life Fun Facts

• Removed insurgents from safe havens in Shewan

interior, enabled ANSF stronghold to be established

• Developed 2 ANSF combined coordination centers

• Trained and mentored ANSF to the extent that they are

ready to assume the lead for security in central Farah

Province

• Developed Afghan Local Police program to provide

security for the rural populace

• Partnered with ANP Training Facility in Farah city to

enhance training of 4 classes of new recruits

• Heated showers and access to laundry facilities at all US

bases in AO

• Hot chow served for every meal

• Gym at every US base, 3 on FOB Farah

• Expanded amount of sleeping quarters reducing amount

of people per room

• MWR Facilities at each JCOP provides even the most

remote soldiers access to Telephone and Internet.

•AFN TV at each JCOP allows Soldiers to maintain SA on

current events

•Future Plans for a new gym on FOB Farah as well as Post

Exchange, Green Bean and a new DFAC

• 2 Castles from Alexander the Great

• Population is approximately 109,000

• 11 separate districts

• Farah Province is twice the size of Maryland

• Tomb of Syed Muhammad Jaunpuri, descendent of

Muhammad who founded Islam and is visited by

thousands every year

First Five Months

• Operation Clean Sweep: TF Rough Rider removes

excess equipment from the CTF Warhorse Area of

Operations. As of 11NOV11, the 204th BSB has turned in

over $10,344,730 in reusable parts back into the supply

system.

• Convoys: 204th BSB Soldiers distribute supplies

throughout the CTF Warhorse Area of Operations. As of

11NOV11, TF Rough Rider has completed over 240

convoys.

• AUP Professionalization: The 204th Logistics Training

Advisory Team provides vital training to Afghans on

sustainment functions to ensure our partners are more

capable, competent and confident in their ability to

execute logistics tasks and are introduced to contracted

services.

Quality of Life

• Soldiers enjoy a fantastic dining facility

known as the best DFAC in RC-South and

possibly the best in all of Afghanistan

• Soldiers have the option to shop at 4

different local vendors for a variety of items

• Currently constructing the Warhorse

Oasis at FOB Walton, which will serve as a

retreat for war fighters to reflect and regain

resiliency and take a break from the

demands of combat

Fun Facts • Building a 204th BSB Deployment Yearbook

•Published 16 issues of the Rough Rider Connection to

provide family members with a weekly publication

• Conducted 9-11 Ceremony

• Received confirmation that Santa Clause

will appear at FOB Walton this year

Quality of Life Fun Facts • The Arghandab was the birthplace of the Taliban

• The Baba Sahib Shrine is the #4 of 13 “things to do in

Kandahar” according to Lonely Planet.com

• One police location in our AO has its own Camel “Chewy”

• C Co recently met a villager who is 120 years old

•Witnessed the opening of many schools in the area for the

first time in years.

•FSC conducted over 150 convoy’s to over two dozen

locations while cooking, maintaining, and supporting every

aspect of Dealer life.

•Significant Activities including enemy attacks are down

over 80% compared to the same time last year.

• 4 x ARCOM for Valor awarded to DEALER Soldiers

•Every COP has SPAWARE and internet access of sorts

•Most COPs have some semblance of a gym

•Hot showers most of the time

•At least two hot meals a day

•Mail is usually delivered once a week to each COP/FOB

• Nearly 1000 soldiers are spread over 17 COPs spanning

over 770 square kilometers consisting of mostly

farmland just West and North West of Kandahar City.

• Population of Kandahar City is estimated at

approximately 500,000; 20% larger than Colorado Springs.

•Most buildings, even in the city, are made of mud-brick,

made by mixing water, dirt, sand, and straw and drying it

in the sun.

•Kandahar and the surrounding area are world famous for

Pomegranates.

• Gym at every FOB/COP; it’s no Gold’s Gym but it gets the

job done

• MWR Facilities at each COP provides even the most

remote soldiers access to Telephone and Internet.

•AFN TV at each COP allows Soldiers to relax when not on

patrol and enjoy some current events, sports, movies, etc.

• Upcoming move to FOB Frontenac for HHC, FSC, and

Chimera will provide Soldiers with a top of the line DFAC,

GYM, MWR, and even a basketball court.
