Welcome to Nuffield Australia Farming Scholarships.

I am proud to introduce myself as the Chair of Nuffield Australia, a position I have held since September 2019. Nuffield Australia has been selecting scholars for over 70 years. It is the leading program for primary producers in Australia which identifies new leaders for industry and communities through capacity building. It is also part of a global network of over 1,700 scholars from many other countries. Scholars represent many rural industries and are selected on merit as people committed to their industry sector and are typically engaged with their regions and communities. We are pleased to announce the opening of the 2021 round of farming scholarships. We are offering more than 20 scholarships to primary producers, farm managers and those in related industries. I encourage you to apply to become a part of our worldwide agricultural network.

“I researched how low-tech greenhouse operators can become more efficient within production systems. I visited Brazil, Singapore, Japan, Israel, Europe, Canada, UK, USA and the Netherlands. Temperature control and ventilation is key, and growing structures in Israel and Spain were similar to our business at Geraldton, so easily replicated to our environment.

PROGRAM COMPONENTS

Note: Financial assistance to the value of $30,000 (subject to conditions) is provided to cover costs associated with the study period. Likely costs exceeding this value must be met by the scholar

Note: The scholarship tenure is 14 weeks over a period oftwo years. The longest compulsory element is the Global Focus Program, where scholars are overseas for four weeks

• 2020 Nuffield Australia National Conference is a chance to meet the Nuffield network and agri-business leaders, receive a briefing about the program and formally be awarded the scholarship.

• 2021 Contemporary Scholars Conference (CSC) is a week-long program for all newly-selected scholars from around the world. Scholars build networks and consider international trade and policy issues affecting agriculture. It is a cultural and ambassadorial experience where leadership skills are enhanced.

• 2021 Global Focus Programs (GFP) offer a four-week, group travel experience spent in various countries across three continents. Scholars investigate agricultural production, marketing, trade, environmental issues and experience social and cultural aspects of each region.

• 2021–2022 Individual Study Program enables scholars to travel to countries of choice to study their chosen individual research topic.

• Both written and verbal reporting is a requirement of the scholarship and these are completed following the 14 weeks of research, as specified by Nuffield Australia.

ELIGIBILITY

Nuffield Australia has been supporting innovative and progressive Australian producers since 1951. Nuffield is committed to developing future leaders in Australian agriculture who strive for excellence through its longstanding scholarship program.

Nuffield Australia has over 460 alumni located across all States and Territories of Australia, from a broad cross section of industries. Over the 70 years of Nuffield Australia, our scholars have been pivotal in influencing the development of new and emerging industries and are recognised as leaders not only in their communities and industries but also across Australian agriculture.

APPLY NOW! Nuffield Scholarships are open to applicants who are:

1. Between 28-45 years of age. Please note that exceptional candidates outside this age range will be considered

2. Ordinarily a resident of Australia

3. Engaged in farming, horticulture, fishing or associated industries

4. Intending to remain involved in food and fibre industries in Australia

Regard will be given to the value of the experience that the applicant will gain through the study. All scholars must write a comprehensive report about the research findings. This report remains the property of Nuffield Australia and will be published at Nuffield Australia’s discretion.
