Food

From normal kibble to specialty diet foods, you’ll be helping feed all our animals every day. Did you know we go through 50,000 lbs. of food per year – and that’s not including the food we distribute through our pet food bank!

Vaccinations

Donations help to provides vaccinations to all our animals. These vaccinations guard against diseases like rabies, distemper and parvo just to name a few.

Spay/neuter

Every cat, dog and rabbit at our shelter is either spayed or neutered before being put up for adoption. Your gift helps keep the number of unwanted litters to a minimum.

World-class vets

Our vets are professional, highly motivated and educated in the latest veterinary procedures and innovations. We’ve saved many animals from life-threatening situations thanks to our dedicated team and your support.

Transfers

Did you know that we open our doors to animals from all across Ontario? Last year alone, 1,100 dogs and cats were transferred to us because the shelters they were in didn’t have enough space, or they didn’t have the medical or behavioural facilities to help.

Behaviour

Many dogs and cats end up at our shelter due to behavioural issues. Donations allow our behaviourists to give these animals all the love and guidance they need to ensure they’re ready for a new home.

Grooming

All our animals need to look great to catch the eye of their next forever family – so they are bathed, brushed and clipped to ensure they look their best!

Enrichment

Every animal at our shelter needs more than just room, board and food. They need interaction with other animals and us humans and that’s why play is an integral part of our guests’ daily care.

Planned GivingAre you an animal lover who believes in the Toronto Humane Society’s work? Do you wish you could make a significant gift to support the Society, but feel it’s beyond your means? By making a planned gift to the Society, such as a bequest in your will, you can leave a sizeable legacy to the animals without affecting your current income. When planning for the future, please consider a gift for the animals – you’ll be giving them the new beginnings they deserve.

Remember the animals in your WillIt is never too soon to prepare your will, a powerful document that enables you to distribute your assets exactly as you choose. In addition to remembering loved ones and special friends, your will can make a final philanthropic gesture by leaving gifts to organizations whose work you believe in.

Name the Society as a beneficiary of your RRSP or RRIF Donors can make charitable gifts by naming a charity as a beneficiary of an insurance policy, RRSP or RRIF. The donor does not have to pass these assets through their estates when they gift them to a charity to be eligible to receive the tax receipt in the year of death.

Name the Society as a beneficiary of a Life Insurance Policy To make a significant future gift for a modest current expense, life insurance is an excellent option. Options include giving the Toronto Humane Society an old policy; designating the Society as a beneficiary of an existing policy; or taking out a new policy and designating the Society as the irrevocable owner and beneficiary.

Invest in a Charitable Gift AnnuityA charitable gift annuity is a financial planning tool that can maintain and even enhance your after-tax income while providing substantial financial aid to the Toronto Humane Society. An annuity is very secure, guaranteeing your rate of return and thereby, the amount of your annual payments, for life. This is an excellent vehicle for donors who are 70 years or older and can afford to invest at least $10,000.

Establish a Charitable Remainder TrustThis gift opportunity allows you to give cash or assets during your lifetime while enjoying the income from that asset for the remainder of your life. Throughout your lifetime you will receive income from this living trust, but upon your death, the “remainder” will pass directly to the Toronto Humane Society as the named beneficiary. This type of gift is most suitable for those aged 70 plus, who are able to invest $100,000 or more in the trust.
