By Jessica ThiefelsIf you’re about to leap into the exciting, yet hectic, process of moving into a new home, you’re not alone. Nearly 35.5 million Americans move each year, according to data from Move.org. With so much to think about, from organizing and packing to lifting and moving heavy boxes, it’s easy to forget the little things that can make your life a little easier during a move. We’ve considered all the small details you may have overlooked – tips to make any move smoother and stress free.

UNPLUG CAREFULLY Don’t just pull the plug on expensive electronics and toss them in a box – a little planning will help you protect expensive gadgets, like TVs, laptops and stereo systems. Think before dismounting that big, flat-screen TV by yourself. Follow this step-by-step TV dismounting guide to make sure nothing is damaged. Place all user manuals in a folder so they don’t get lost in the shuffle, but don’t panic if you’ve misplaced them because you can usually find manuals on manufacturers’ websites. Consider a professional mover for your more delicate electronics. Atlas Van Lines suggests using a qualified professional to uninstall any wall-mounted AV equipment and to call in advance to schedule an appointment so you’re not scrambling at the last minute.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT Don’t forget about dinner – you still need to eat during a move. Packing up the kitchen is usually the last, most challenging part of the moving process, but if you make plans you won’t go hungry.

Donate: Think about donating canned or unopened food to your local food bank. This leaves one less thing to pack and supports your community.

Meal Plan: Use the foods still left in your fridge and freezer for meal planning. Take inventory of the foods you have

A Successful Move Is All in the Detailsavailable leading up to the big day. Home Cooking Memories has some tasty ideas.

Label and Organize: Don’t pack up those cooking utensils just yet. Label your moving boxes to easily access the kitchen gadgets you still need to whip up a quick dinner. Consider the packing order of appliances you won’t need, like the blender, and place everyday items, like spatulas, on top for easy access.

THE ESSENTIALS You’ve unloaded the last box and you’re ready to shower, eat and relax – only to remember that your toiletries are buried in a dozen boxes, spread across the house. Avoid this all-too-common mistake by packing one or two “essentials boxes” that contain extra clothing, towels, toiletries, medications, bedding and phone chargers that will last up to three or four days.

KNOW YOUR LIMITS It may be tempting to save money by doing the moving yourself, but don’t get in over your head. Know your limits, suggests OZ Moving and Storage, “If you’re not sure if you can accomplish some part of your move without professional help, don’t try. We were called up once by a trio of college students who had gotten their couch stuck in a staircase. Getting in over your head and having to call emergency help is not ideal.” Get quotes from a few moving companies to determine what needs to be moved or packed by a professional.A successful move is all in the details – but, with a plan in place you won’t forget the small stuff. Keep calm and call a professional RE/MAX Realtor to make your next move.

CPL - Afternoon Film ClubApril 05, 2019 | 2:00 p.m.150 Queen Street South Bolton, ON L7E 1E3Join us for an afternoon of film & discussion with screenings of titles from our Kanopy Collection. Whether you consider yourself an amateur film critic or are someone who just enjoys watching movies, you are welcome to join our Afternoon Film Club. Popcorn & drinks will be provided. This month we will be screening "Hearts Beat Loud", a film about a father & daughter hoping to stay connected by forming an unlikely songwriting duo the summer before she leaves for college. Films may contain mature subject matter & are intended for an older audience.Contact Caledon Public Library - Albion Bolton Branch at 905.857.1400 or email [email protected]://engagedpatrons.org/EventsExtended.cfm?SiteID=8142&EventID=365460&PK=

wainscoting trick, or the wall paper crown molding will take buyers back down memory lane. Their Sony Walkman in the 80’s, disco in the 70’s and even the swinging 60’s. Great times for sure but…

7. Light fixtures. Now this one can add up, but you would be surprised how reasonable newer fixtures cost at some of the big box stores. Perhaps too, it’s as simple as upgrading your bulbs to LED.

8. Window coverings – LOUD patterns, dust filled micro blind go with simple and elegant, for the most part you want the blinds drawn back to allow for as much natural light as possible.

9. Counters – if your laminate counter looks like a cutting board, or if the sides are hanging off, maybe even kept together with sticky tape… its time to at least update the counters. As granite has become so prevalent these days and new Products like Quartz are coming in, the cost of granite counter is not nearly as astronomical as years past.

10. Ceiling fans – if you look up and are amazed at how that huge pile of dust sticks to the blade of your fan and not cause a dust storm… it is time to get a new look!!!! The old bronze fixture with the wicker inset fan blades harken back to yesteryear, just as fast as if the buyer were walking through a sea of wall to wall orange shag carpet.

Well there you have it. A few extra little things to think about if you are worried about your home having that dated feel. If you are thinking about a major reno, please feel free to give us a call. There is nothing worse than not thinking about resale, when you are considering a major change to one of your most important investments!!!We would be happy to come through your home, and give you our opinion, point out some other areas perhaps and of course, give you an idea on the market value of your home!

As Canadians we tend to do our share of hibernating during the quiet snow covered months. However, living in the hills of Mono, we are always tempted outdoors to appreciate our picturesque surroundings regardless of the season. My wife and I have lived in the area for thirty years and I have enjoyed helping families find homes here for more than half that time. The rolling hills, quiet forests, clear streams and tranquil ponds made my job easy. The spring season will soon be here, ... I’m going fishing!

4. See and interact with products in person. The internet is a great tool for researching upcoming home projects, but nothing beats getting hands-on and talking to a person about it, and whether it’s what you’re looking for.

5. Special deals. With so many exhibitors, visitors are sure to find special promotions only available at the show.

I know, I know, another one of these TOP TEN lists. It seems like they are everywhere these days, but if you are reading this, I guess they do grab your attention. We often think about the BIG reno’s when we think of dated homes, those are easy to spot but heavy on the pocket book to fix. Things like a kitchen from the era of the Galloping Gourmet, the avocado bathtub, the single pane slider windows with cracked and peeling wood frames, or perhaps you have the classic parquet floors like at the old dance hall.If you have been able to address these big ticket items, that’s fantastic! But don’t sabotage all that time, effort and money by forgetting the little items too. It does not take much to put off a buyer! So with out further ado….drum roll…The Top Ten Little Things That Date Your Home1. Dirty old switch plate covers and switches. Old “flip” switches and off

colour or faded colour plates are one of those easy to forget or not get around to updates. There are so many options out now as well, like stainless steel, or multiple setting dimmer, it’s an area that you can have some fun with.

2. Old and banged up trim and baseboards. Sometimes all they need is a quick coat of paint, but then there are times where the 2 inch baseboard with faux cedar door trim just won’t cut it anymore.

3. Off white ceiling. You hear about updating the colour of the walls all the time, and there seems to be the colour flavour of the year every year. But a dull ceiling puts a downer on everything. Brighten up the ceiling with a fresh coat and the difference is palpable.

4. Dirty window sills. Buyers will be checking out windows and no matter how new your window may be, a line of
