Principal’s Report ASSESSMENT INTERVIEWS 2019 At our last school council meeting it was approved that the first two days of 2019 school year, would be used for individual assessment interviews. It is expected that each student will attend a 30 minute interview with their teacher to conduct literacy and numeracy assessment. This enables teachers to plan their teaching and learning to cater for all students needs. All students will return back to school in a full time capacity on Friday the 1st of February. Interviews can booked at the school interview website using the link provided on the following page. Please book your interview with your child’s teacher for 2019. WAUBRA’S GOT TALENT Last week we launched Waubra’s Got Talent. Students are auditioning for performing spots for the upcoming Art Show. Over the next few weeks we will he holding auditions during recess time. All the acts will be judged by a panel of judges made up of staff and students. It has been great to see the students practising in their own time. We are looking forward to seeing the variety of talent we have in the school. Each group/performer has been given an audition time. Parents are most welcome to come in and watch. GEELONG ADVENTURE PARK We have had a number of parent request to attend the excursion to the Geelong Adventure Park. If you are interested and have Working With Children’s Card, please put a note in your child’s diary. The excursion is on Tuesday 18th of December. ART SHOW—DECEMBER 13TH We are having a different approach to the end of year concert. We will be having an Art Show at school on the evening of Thursday, December the 13th. Students will display a number of items they have created during art this year. There will also be small classroom performances and individual/ group performances from selected students from Waubra’s Got Talent. We would also like to showcase any art / creative pieces that our parent and community members would like to display. There will be more information in the coming newsletters. ABORIGINAL FLAG RAISING CEREMONY—3rd DECEMBER On Monday the 3rd of December, we will be having a special assembly to raise the Aboriginal Flag for the first time. We have two Koorie Engagement Support Officers from the education Department coming to do an Acknowledgment of Country and a Smoking Ceremony. We en-courage all members of our community to attend the assembly. SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT SUGGESTIONS As a school community we have worked very hard to raise money. It has come time to think about what we will use the money for. If you have any suggestions both big and small please email the school, myself or come in and see me. We are open to any idea that will benefit the students of our school. [email protected] [email protected] Cameron Landry Principal

We have completed lots of assessment, and I have begun to write reports for the end of

the year. I applaud all the children for their growth this year, both socially and academi-

cally. I also thank parents and extended family members for supporting your little ones

as they make their way through their early years at primary school.

If anyone has any plants ready for our Japanese Zen Garden, would you please start

bringing them in for planting! Thanks very much!

Term 4: Week 7 F/1/2

Reading: We are focusing on VORACIOUS reading! How long can we read, and I mean

‘really’ read? No interruptions, no looking around, just focusing on the text we are read-

ing.

Writing: Our focus is on Fairy Tales and Poetry this week. What makes a story a Fairy

Tale? Well, once upon a time… they lived happily ever after!

Speaking & Listening: We are going to start thinking about our performance for this

year’s end of year ART SHOW!!

Maths: We are working on Fractions, cutting our whole into halves and quarters.

Where do we see fractions in our day-to-day lives?

Congratulations to

Victoria who has once again taken out an award for the

NAIDOC Week

colouring competition! Well done Tori!

Term 4,

In Reading this week we are learning to look for clues in order to understand character feelings.

Often when author’s write they show us rather than telling us what is happening. By looking for clues such as what the characters does or says and mak-ing connections to our lives and other books we can infer how a character might be feeling.

Our Numeracy focus

this week is on using

data to create displays

such as pictographs and

column graphs.

We are also learning to

read graphs and under-

stand the information

they are giving us.

We are re-visiting the Exposition genre again in Writ-

ing.

We are looking at how we can persuade our audi-

ence to agree with our opinions by using emotive lan-

guage and feeling words as well as appealing to our

readers by using rhetorical questions.

In our Inquiry Topic ‘Making a Scene’ we have ex-

plored many different art forms and are now develop-

ing a big question to guide our investigations into an

art form of personal interest to us.

children at WPS! We lost count

of the compliments these kids

received from all the staff at

PGL. Our students were ex-

and encouraging of each other!

The biggest of thanks to

What’s happening in Grade 5/6?..

This week the grade 5/6’s will begin their oral presentation assessment, in

the form of a news report. Students were given the chance to select some-

thing from the news that took their interest and that they would like to

write a news report on. They have been given time to work on their news

reports at home and at school and have been allocated a time slot over the

next two weeks, when they will present.

During writing, students have been learning about how to write a discussion

text! They have been learning that a discussion is where the writer needs to

present arguments for both sides of a topic before giving their opinion. Stu-

dents have been practicing giving strong arguments by participating in group

debates and also one on one debates with a partner.

In maths, we have been focussing on economy and in particular looking at

receipts and everything included on a regular receipt. We have also begun

discussing GST - what it is and how it is calculated.

Movember!

This year will be my third year partici-pating in Movember to help raise mon-ey and awareness for men’s health! I have raised $831 in my first two years and aim to raise another $500 this year! If you are able to help out in any-way, it will be greatly appreciated and all donations, big and small, will make a difference! If you would like to donate please follow the link below, thanks! https://mobro.co/timhaase

Garden Project!

This week we will be working on

our garden from 2.30 – 3.30 on

Thursday afternoon for any fami-

ly and friends who may want to

pop in and give the students a

hand! It is coming along nicely,

but there is still a bit of work to

do before it will be finished.
