Please see the school calendar for dates and themes. Sports Update: JARIS Boys and Girls Basketball: Girls: Coach Chrissy Hawley and Sarah vanden Hoogen Tournament Feb 10 th was cancelled, rescheduled date TBA. Girls will be travelling to Baddeck on February 19 th Boys: Coach Bernard Cameron. Our next scheduled tournament is Feb. 11 th here at Bayview. Last tournament before play offs is scheduled for Feb 18th in Baddeck. Volunteer Volunteers are always welcome and needed at BEC. There are many opportunities for parents/guardians and community members to assist our Staff and students. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer please contact the school, we would be happy to assist you through the process. Every volunteer must have a Criminal Record Check, Vulnerable Sector Check completed. This can be done at your local RCMP Detachments. Child Abuse Registry form must be completed and mailed to the Department of Community Services in Halifax. Please remember to attach a copy of your health card and/or picture identification. We need chaperones /volunteers for the dance on Thursday, February 13 th , if you have completed your paper work and are available Winter Weather A friendly reminder to parents and guardians, supervision is scheduled to accommodate out door recess and lunch. Class Cancelations Due to Weather or Road Conditions Buses Travelling Paved Roads Only Reminder to parents and guardians when our buses are serving paved roads only, this applies to both the morning and afternoon bus runs. Parents/Guardians will exercise their discretion when deciding if road conditions are appropriate for the safe conveyance of their children. If you live on an unpaved road, and decide to travel your child{ren) to school on a day our buses are serving paved roads only, it is the parents/guardians responsibility to provide transportation to and from school. Please note should you decide to keep your child at home please contact the school.

Early Dismissal Announcements for early dismissals, based on predicted extreme weather, may be made in the early morning or during the day, normally no later than 12:00 p.m., except in emergency situations. Announcements are made on local radio stations and found on www.srce.ca click Cancelations. You can also request to add your mobile phone/ email to notifications by emailing [email protected]. (We ask parents/guardians to ensure instructions for unexpected early school closure has been recorded for your child(ren). If you have not completed this section on the registration form, please contact the school, Deniese will be happy to record/ update instructions for your child(ren).

NOTICE TO FAMILIES: PRE-PRIMARY PROGRAM REGISTRATION FOR THE 2020-2021 SCHOOL YEAR

Families who wish to register children for the Pre-primary Program may do so during school hours the week of February 10, 2020, at the following school locations:

IMPORTANT REGISTRATION INFORMATION

• Children who are four (4) years of age on or before December 31, 2020, are

eligible to attend. • Registration must be completed in person at the school. At that time, the child's

birth certificate, provincial health card and completed school registration form are required to complete the registration process. Registrations by telephone will not be accepted.

• The School Registration Form may be accessed in the Document Depot section of the Strait Regional Centre for Education website at www.srce.ca or at the school.

• It is not necessary for children to accompany parents/guardians to the school for registration.

Directions 1. In a large bowl mix apples, raspberries, strawberries, white sugar, brown sugar

and fruit preserves. Cover and chill in the refrigerator at least 15 minutes. 2. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). 3. Brush one side of each flour tortilla or pita with oil and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar. Cut into wedges and arrange in a single layer on a large baking sheet.

• In the SRCE, busing is available to all pre-primary children eligible to receive bus service. Please contact the SRCE Transportation Department staff at 902-747-3645 to determine your eligibility to receive bus service.

• This is a voluntary program and children may only attend for one year. • There is no fee for the Program. • The Program will run from September 2020 to June 2021. • When there are available pre-primary spaces, families who live outside a school's

catchment area may apply to have their child attend a Program out of catchment by submitting an Application for Transfer of Students within the Region Request Form located in the Document Depot of the SRCE website. These spaces are limited and will only be considered when space is available and no additional staffing is required to accommodate the request.

• Bus routes will not be altered in the event that a child has been approved to attend a Program outside their family's catchment area.

Gr 7/8 Leadership Students have been trained to provide fun activities during lunch times. Every day a group of students from junior high work with younger students to be involved with activities and assist students with resolving conflicts.

Family Literacy Day Joyce Morrison's 1-2 Class celebrated family literacy day with visitors who shared a favourite story with her class. Ms. Touesnard's 2-3 Class celebrated by writing a letter to their favourite Author. WTG Mrs. Morrison, Ms. Touesnard and their students..
