Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA)

Eligible employees are entitled to up to 12 work weeks of paid/unpaid leave during a 12-month period for one or more of the following reasons:• Birth and care of the newborn child of the employee

• For placement with the employee of a child for adoption or foster care

• To take medical leave when an employee is unable to work due to a serious health condition

• To care for an immediate family member (spouse, parent, child) with a serious health condition

• For a qualifying exigency of a family member in the military

• To take up to 26 weeks to care for a member of the Armed Forces with a serious medical condition

Sick Leave Bank

To become a member of the Sick Leave Bank, employees must have worked for the district for one year and have a sick leave balance of 5 days as of October 1. This grants eligible employees up to 80 days of paid leave for a personal serious health condition.

ADA Accommodations

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requires an employer to provide reasonable accommodations to qualified individuals with disabilities who are employees or applicants for employment, unless to do so would cause undue hardship.

Examples of accommodations include: Making existing facilities accessible Providing light covers Providing access to restrooms throughout

the work day Allowing employee to sit after periods of

Board Policy Reminders... Policy 2.70 Unlawful Discrimination Prohibited

No person shall, on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, age, national or ethnic origin, marital status, qualified handicap or disability or social or family background be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity, or in any employment conditions or practices conducted by this School District, except as provided by law.

Students and employees are expected to conform to reasonable standards of socially acceptable behavior and show respect for persons, property and the rights of others.

Policy 6.30 Violation of local, state, and/or federal laws

Policy states employees must self-report:

Any arrest/charges involving the abuse of a child or sale/possession of controlled substance

Any conviction, finding of guilt, withholding of adjudication commitment, commitment to a pretrial diversion program, or entering a plea of guilty or Nolo Contendere (other than minor traffic violation- non-criminal violation that is not punishable by incarceration or trial by jury)

Criminal traffic violations, including DUI of alcohol and/or drugs, are not minor

Social Media Guidelines Lake County Schools has created Guidelines for

Employee use of Social Media Networks.

All employees are expected to serve as a positive ambassador for the District.

Use caution when posting on social network sites/blogs to avoid the risk of affecting your employment.

All ethical expectations set forth in the “Code of Ethics and the Principles of Professional Conduct of the Education Profession” for employee/student relationships and communication with a student apply with social media communications, through District systems AND privately owned systems.

ALL use of district equipment is archived and becomes subject to public record. Accessing inappropriate websites during work hours or using your District email inappropriately can result in disciplinary action.

The use of social networking/blog for District-related business must have the Superintendent’s approval.

The lake.k12.fl.us address implies you are acting on behalf of the district.

Social Media Guidelines, cont.Social Networking Sites/Blogs for Personal Use:

The district takes no position on an employee’s decision to participate in the use of social media networks for personal use on personal time. The personal use of these media during District time or on District equipment is prohibited. The following are suggestions: Employees should be respectful and professional in all

communications.

If you identify yourself as a District employee, your actions will reflect not only on you, but on the District.

Do not blog or post about students.

Do not blog or post about your job duties, colleagues or supervisor.

It could be viewed as inappropriate for District employees to communicate with current students enrolled in the district.
