SCHOOL PHOTOSThat time of the year again, school photos being taken at Kingston Primary School,

but something’s not quite right. Is it just me or is everyone upsidedown?

WONGA.COMWonga.com is a ‘great money loaning service’ which offers ‘cheap affordable loans’ to

people in financial trouble. It’s so easy to do, just like taking candy from a baby. Too

good to be true? Well you’d agree if you read the small print.

ABSTRUSE

NOT EASILY UNDERSTOODThis is issue one of Abstruse, a Fanzine designed to be difficult. As a reader you are challenged to

work out each page which contains a visually cryptic clue. Having read through a few times, you are

then instructed to remove the bindings so the pages can be read in reverse. This side contains the

answers and explains itself, whilst giving extra details to the answers themselves. When folded out

the theme that binds each issue is then revealed in an A2 poster.

SPACE

ABSTRACTION OF SPACE Photography can challenge the space around us, giving us a unique perspective on the

everyday. By removing obvious references and only providing obscure viewpoints one can

build the illusion of an abstract space. This is a set of three images, each compiled of four

photos; designed to not only appear unique as a complete image but also to the individual

viewer, depending on how they choose to interpret them.

DO IT YOURSELF

JUST DO ITD.I.Y is entirely about the process of making. It means nothing without the knowledge that

you’ve done it yourself, because no matter how capable you are, it’s still a D.I.Y project.

We spent 10 hours in a box with 8000 sheets of paper. On each piece we drew an idea,

disregarding them as soon as we finished. As we continued the walls around us filled with

our ideas, representing the point something is past the stage of creation it is superfluous,

and the care and attention it had is never felt for it again.

X-HEIGHT

X-HEIGHTThis term is used to describe the height of a lower case ‘x’ in any given typeface. In its

practical application, it is used to determine the readability of text. Considering this will effect

how comfortably it can be read especially at small point sizes.

KALAMOS

THE GREAT KALAMOSThe beauty of the reed pen is that it hasn’t changed in over 5000 years. Well unfortunately

neither have men. Sexually explicit images were all too common in Egyptian culture, just as

they are today.

THE MOTHER OF ALL ED RIVERS FANCLUBSOften described as a ‘God amongst men, a towering giant of perfectly formed

graphic design’ Ed Rivers is just a man. In one week we turned an unsuspecting

3rd year into our idol.

CRASH

HIGH IMPACT POLYSTYRENE - CRASH SUITHigh Impact Polystyrene is commonly used for modelling and prototyping. After

exploring its unique properties I discovered a new use for it. In proving my confidence

in this material as a form of body armour, I risked hospitalization and possibly my life.
