The Beginning

1869: Jacob Beringer, een Duitse wijnmaker, komt aan in Napa Valley en wordtkeldermeester voor Charles Krug, de eerste commerciëlewijnbouwer in Napa Valley.

Late 1800’s

1875: De gebroeders beringer kopen hun eerste 215 hectare land voor 14 500 $

1876: De eesrte oogst brengt ongeveer 18 000 kisten wijn op.

THE EARLY YEARS

1883:Frederick Beringer verhuist (letterlijk) met behulp van trekpaarden het huis van z’nbroers om plaats te maken voor het majestueuse “Rhine House” dat nu nog steeds het hoofdgebouw van het domein is.

Stone Cellar completed

1877: de originele kelder “Stone Cellar” wordt afgewerkt (nu nog steeds in gebruik!)

De rijpingskelders zijn een zeldzaamheid voor Californië. Ze werden met de hand uitgegraven in de flanken van de Spring Mountain tussen 1870 en 1880 door Chinese arbeiders. De rotswanden zorgen voor een natuurlijke klimaatscontrole met een constante temperatuur en vochtigheidsgraad, ideaal voor het verouderen van de wijnen.

THE EARLY YEARS

1934: Beringer becomes the first winery to offer public tours, and to celebrate the end of Prohibition in 1934, Beringer organizes a big festival.

1920 - 1933: The winery operated through Prohibition by selling sacramental wines under a federal license allowing wine to be made for religious purposes.

St.Helena Home VineyardEerste perceel van Jacob Beringer. De Cabernet Sauvignon die op de warme hellingen met alluviale bodem geplant is in deze warme vallei van Napa is de basis voor de topwijn Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon sinds 1982.

Knights Valley VineyardEen wijngaard met zeer goede drainage in Sonoma County, die unieke topwijnen produceert: Knights Valley Cabernet Sauvignon en Knights Valley Alluviumand Alluvium Blanc. Alluviale bodem op een oude rivierbedding.
