Installation guidelines in brief -

Types of supply -

For the purposes of these guidelines we have used a case study, a typically sized path and a common design as an example to provide a step by step guide.Sizes and shapes of areas will vary, despite this we hope that the information, in principal is a suitable enough guide to assist your installation.

The benets of the following system are as follows -

Installation instructions & guidelines

- A faster installation

- Accurately spaced complex designs featuring many sizes shapes and colours can be installed easily

- The tiles and the design are visible during installation

- The tiles are surface mounted which helps with maintaining a level nish

- The surface lm protects the tiles from contamination during installation

- The lm can be easily peeled o leaving no residue

- The lm is easily cut with a knife

- Small grout lines give an authentic appearance

1. Always ensure that the base onto which you are xing is as smooth and as solid as possible.

2. Always dry lay the tiles rst to establish the layout and positioning.

3. Fix the eld rst and then the border, nishing by cutting the outer border tile to t the extremity.

4. Always use a grey rapid set cement of a high quality.

5. Please ensure that you locate the sheeted diagram before setting out.

London Mosaic provide our sheeted tile system in three formats, as loose tiles, as standard sheets and as bespoke sheets.

Standard sheets - are essentially component sheets of a standard size that the tiler uses to populate the space. These are to be laid out and trimmed down by the tiler in order to create the design and does not include a layout or sheeting diagram unless specied. if you are installing a standard sheeted system then setting out will take slightly longer than the bespoke system as it will involve cutting and trimming both tiles and sheets of tiles.

Bespoke sheets - The design is mapped according to the dimensions provided. We provide a layout illustration for your conrmation and then create a diagramshowing the position of the sheets. All information and bespoke shaped sheets are provided to minimise planning, cutting and execution reducing your time on site whilst maintaining accuracy and a high level of nish.

Loose tiles- All tiles are supplied loose and the tiler is responsible for the design of the layout.

Here is an example of the sheeting diagram included with the bespoke sheeted product. The following case study is based on this layout.

Page 3: BESPOKE SHEETED TILE SUPPLY 0 - Victorian Floor Tiles...3. Fix the ˜eld ˜rst and then the border, ˜nishing by cutting the outer border tile to ˜t the extremity. 4. Always use a

Step 1. Mark the centre lines within the space, for the purposes of these instructions we shall assume that the area in question is a rectangular path. See Fig 1.

Step 2. Refer to the sheeted diagram provided and locate a box of eld sheets (these are the main tessellating components used to create the central area).Position a sheet at the centre point according to the diagram provided. See Fig 2.

Fig 1

Fig 2

The following step by step guide is an example of Bespoke Sheeted Tile Supply and covers all issues when installing such a design.

2

Page 4: BESPOKE SHEETED TILE SUPPLY 0 - Victorian Floor Tiles...3. Fix the ˜eld ˜rst and then the border, ˜nishing by cutting the outer border tile to ˜t the extremity. 4. Always use a

Step 3. Use further sheets to dry lay portions of the width and length of the design. This is a quick way to check the resulting layout prior to xing and any adjustments to the positioning and orientation of the design should be decided on at this point. See Fig 3.

Step 4. Locate the border components as specied in the diagram, in this case the border is composed of an inner strip, a sheeted component (diamond border)and an outer tile. These should be dry laid in order to check that the position of the border is correct. The ideal remaining space for the outer border tileshould be approx 50 mm and is supplied as a large format tile, 150 mm x 150 mm and is cut to size. This is the last tile that should be installed and will bedetailed in the later stages. See Fig 4.

Page 5: BESPOKE SHEETED TILE SUPPLY 0 - Victorian Floor Tiles...3. Fix the ˜eld ˜rst and then the border, ˜nishing by cutting the outer border tile to ˜t the extremity. 4. Always use a

Step 5. Once sheets have been dry laid and positions checked the installation can commence. Install the eld area before continuing with the border.Do not remove the surface sheets until all tiles have been installed and have dried. The sheet serves to protect the grout lines from contamination during the installation as well as holding the tiles in position. See Fig 5.

Step 6. Install the inner black line. This is a pre-moulded tile, in this instance a 25 mm x 150 tile. Good practice is to start in one corner and work around theeld. Avoid cutting the strips into small pieces as llers, always maintain a balanced size. See Fig 6.

Step 7. Install the sheeted border sections. Always start with the corner sections and work to the symmetrical mid point. See Fig 7

Step 8. Where the border sections meet at the mid point the sheeted sections will never usually meet up exactly. The sheets will need to be cut and adjusted in order to create a symmetrical mid point feature, this method was commonly used by traditional Victoriantilers and can be avoided by increasing the spacing between the tiles by cutting into the groutlines, however in practice this rarely is possible.See the options for dealing with this area below.

Option 1. Starting with the example above.

By cutting the ends o the triangle at the midpoint results in a smaller square. The square isthen cut to size.

Mid pointM

id p

oint

Option 2. A small gap, here we recommendclosing the gap.

Two custom shapes will be required to ll the space.Visually this is better than a small square.

Option 3. A large gap

If the overlapping squares allow for a reasonablysized triangle, then this should be cut and inserted.

Step 9. Install the outer black line. This is supplied as a 150 mm square tile to be cut down. This tile is never supplied pre-moulded. In most cases two tiles can be cut from one tile. See Fig 9

Step 10. Having installed all the tiles the area will be ready for the removal of the sheets, grouting and cleaning.

Removal of the sheets - The clear surface lm is best removed by starting at a corner and pulling slowly in a horizontal direction rather than vertically.Grouting - Ensure all tape has been removed. Always use a grey rapid set grout, we recommend Mapei Ultracolour Plus grey c113. Never use a white oranypigmented grouts as these are very dicult to clean o.Cleaning - To remove any grout or cementeous residue having washed the area, we recommend a mild acid solution. This is available in most hardwarestores or builders merchants. Apply a small amount (dilution no more than 16%) briey to the surface, this will act to dissolve any surface residues. The areamust be then immediately washed with water (we recommend at least three times). Any stubborn areas can be treated with a scourer or ne paint scraper, and can be removed either prior to or after the acid wash.

Option 4. A medium gap

If the overlapping squares result in small triangles thena custom black hexagon shape should be cut.
