Message from the President
Just to keep us all up to snuff, I want to re-mind everyone of our "Interpretations" Call to Artists now going on. The deadline for art-ists’ entries is December 20th for this March 2016 show. The venue is the WHAM Gallery in Surprise. This will be the first time show-ing at this beautiful venue. It's also been quite a long time since the Alliance has had the opportunity to show its stuff on the Westside of the Valley. If you're an artist and haven't entered this event yet, let's get it in gear and get entered. For you all on the Westside, this is the fulfillment of the Alli-ance promise to bring a show to your back-yard; and for those of us in other parts of the Valley, it is our opportunity to show our works to a new audience. If you didn't par-ticipate in our Holland Gallery show, you don't want to miss this one. That was a great show, a great competition, and with top-notch talent. This WHAM Gallery show has the same potential. Help achieve our goals of forming partnerships with ongoing galler-ies and establishing Alliance exhibits as some of the best. I have entered this show myself for this very reason and I plan on being com-petitive for an award. I have an inside con-nection with the President, you know. (And, as we all know, the President has a keen sense for great art such as mine.) Are you up for the competition?
Competition in Art, like many things, is what makes the game fun, challenging, and most of all rewarding. As always, the Alli-ance is working on new ideas and events to bring to our members. What does every-body think of an ON-Line Art Competition? We’re working on it and plan to have it up and running in May. That's right….in May, when things are winding down, it's time for us to get hot! This Competition will be held on-line on our website. Entries will be judged and juried and given their due. It will give us artists another chance to test our works against each other. Ribbons will be given, as they are in all of our Exhibits. Word has it that there will be a few prizes too. This event will give us activity when things are slowing down and get us ready for when we go live again in the upcoming season. What's great about this is that you don't even have to be here. You can enter from afar. Watch for details to come. Watch for the Call to Artists.
The Alliance would like to wish everyone a Happy Holidays and till next time stay crea-tive, keep working. The world is waiting to see what you come up with next!

Donated gently used art supplies are available at very reasonable prices. This fosters recycling and opportunities for artistic growth and exploration in
new media that may otherwise be out of reach.
-AAG will pick up if there is too much for you to handle. -Drop off times:
• Mondays from 9:00 a.m.-12 noon
• At AAG meetings on the third Tuesday of each month from
5:00-9:00 p.m. • Or by appointment
-No donation is too small, even if it is just a few tubes of paint, paper or brushes
-All mediums are welcome, even jewelry-making supplies and ceramics
-This is a great opportunity to clean out your studio and know that the supplies you
are not using will go to good use
-Donations are tax deductible
If you are interested in donating or purchasing supplies email: [email protected] or call 602-944-9713.

The Holland Gallery
of Fine Art
The Holland Gallery of Fine Art is located in the tourist area of Cave Creek,Carefree, Ari-zona area, although the address is 34250 N 60th St., Scottsdale, AZ., 85266. This gallery space is an active venue that hosts conven-tions, workshops, fundraisers, you name it! It is not a typical gallery that is many times empty, there are ALWAYS things going on. At these events, the participants are surrounded by art!…yours, we hope! We are looking for AMAZING artists to lease this 2,400 space for an exhibit of their work! You can form a theme exhibit, fiber, photogra-phy, wearable art. Or develop an exhibit with friends or artists that work in a similar me-dium, figurative, landscapes, nonrepresenta-tional work. Maybe you want a retrospective of your life’s work. Send your ideas to our jury. The Holland Gallery of Fine Art is booking art-ists for 2018! We have sold art at every ex-hibit but one and hope your work will be in this gallery soon! If interested or need infor-mation, contact Nicolette Maguire Bonn-stetter at [email protected] or 402-417-5614.
December 2015 11 “ENRICHING LIFE THROUGH ART”
To begin, I must state the obvious. I AM VERY
POPULAR. (Especially with those who are rich
and famous.) To provide my Dear Readers with
proof of this fact, I am going to share pictures
of some of the Christmas floral tributes that
have been arriving since the middle of Novem-
ber. These folks really believe in early shop-
ping.
Charles Barkley sent these on November 18th.
The card on this arrangement read,
“Love, Tom Selleck.”
Jay Leno had these delivered on November 22nd,
along with a card that said, “Let’s do lunch.”
I nearly fainted when this arrived from THE
WHITE HOUSE. I have to assume that President
Obama sent them.
Now Dear Readers, please continue reading
to discover one of life’s saddest truths.
FLOWERS DON’T LAST FOREVER –
THEY WITHER AND DIE.
Just look at what my beautiful gifts look like now.
I cry every time I look at them. Sooooo
saaaaaad.

Alliance News
I have decided to be proactive. I can change
this sad truth. I’m in the process of composing
an email that suggests to all my admirers, a
change in gift-giving protocol. Instead of real,
living flower arrangements, I would prefer to
receive Flower Art.
ART WILL LIVE FOREVER.
No wilting blooms on these.
Beauty that will never die.
Lovely and alive.
Fresh forever.
Happiness every day.
I hope that you have come to three realiza-
tions from reading today’s BLOG.
#1: ART WILL LIVE FOREVER.
#2: I would never lie to my Dear Readers. I
might fib, but I will never tell you
a bold-faced lie. Everything in this blog
really happened.
#3: Truth is made of elastic and it some-
times stretches.

Sonoran Arts League—Gallery at el Pedregal
Pop-up Pumpkin Painting for American Cancer Society Donation
October brought the fun and creativity out in artists at the Sonoran Arts League Gallery at el Pedregal.
A $5 donation purchased a pumpkin to paint for resale or for oneself. You could bring your own pump-
kin and paint it to sell. On the last Pop-Up Wednesday of the month there was a speaker and a discus-
sion on cancer and the importance of the work that is being done to fight this
horrid disease. We had happy-ending stories and san ones, but everyone was
engaged in the conversations and sharing experiences. And all the pumpkins
were sold with the proceeds going to the American Cancer Society.
On November 18th I gave a talk at one of the Pop-Ups on the Outreach Pro-
grams supported by the Alliance with emphasis on the work that I have done
over the years with Extra Special Art. Well received and the food and wine
were pretty good too.

OPPORTUNITY HOUSE ACTIVITIES
I am attaching a few photos from our November 18 Opportunity House Art Class. We used the first part
of the session to have a demo and a drawing session, to create a Thanksgiving turkey. The kids did really
well following my directions for their first, formal drawing session. They told me they wanted a more
difficult drawing lesson next time. So, we'll do that.
Then, after coloring their turkeys, they cut them out and glued them on foam board pieces. They then
drew more Thanksgiving pictures of their choice to glue down and ended up with a Thanksgiving collage
to take home. We had a "gluey" blast.
The Arizona Art Alliance Art of Healing Veterans Programs
The fifth veterans program location joins the Arizona Art Alliance’s “Art of Healing” Outreach Pro-
grams; the Sonoran Arts League’s “Art Reach” Program for Vets.
Welcome to the Sonoran Arts League as they join the Arizona Artists Guild, the Scottsdale Artists
League, the Mesa Art League and the WHAM Art Organization in supporting this important outreach
to our veterans. Art can reach so many lives in such a positive way—we are proud to support this im-
portant work.
Free art classes begin December 3rd at the Sonoran Arts League office, 6051 E. Hidden Valley Dr., #3,
Cave Creek, AZ, 85237, from10:30 to 12:30. The theme of this first class is “Pets of Vets”. Vets will
have the opportunity to work with professional artists and create two pictures
of their pets or other pets. Lots more details to come.
Thank you John Fontana for your passion and dedication in bringing this impor-
tant outreach to others and to all those volunteers who participate in and are
dedicated to these programs

DESERT ARTISTS EXTRA SPECIAL ART ACTIVITIES
The High School Special Needs student’s field trip to the Sonoran Arts League Gallery at el Pedregal on No-
vember 5th was a bit different than originally planned. Kelby Love was called away and could not be with
us. Ann Rice to the rescue with her Rooster Painting project! It was a structured, step-by-step exercise in
using two colors at a time on pre-drawn canvas boards. Thank you to all the volunteers that assisted that
day!
The next two classes were all about Peter Max style Painting of
the Statue of Liberty Head in his bright colors. Those student
paintings will go on display at the Gallery this month.
December brings handmade wooden toys to be painted by the
students for themselves or for gifts. Artist Bill Weaver has done
it again! He made 30 new wooden planes, cars and more for them.
No pictures of classes this time. We were all pretty busy with so many things going on in the classroom.
