Rome’s only festival completely dedicated to contemporary soun-dscapes – “Meet in Town” - is back after last year’s successful

run. For two full days the whole of the Auditorium Parco della Musi-ca is filled with electronic dance music and indie concerts, dj sets andperformances. Starting with the British Primal Scream’s performance“Screamadelica” in the open air “cavea” at the center of Renzo Pia-no’s architectural jewel, events carry on in all the concert halls, inthe foyer, corridors and bar throughout the evening and into theearly hours. The Opera Theatre’s spectacular summer season in the ancientRoman Caracalla Baths presents Puccini’s much loved and endu-

ringly popular opera, Tosca. First performed, in Rome, in 1900, thiswork gave Maria Callas and Tito Gobbi their most thrilling roles,and their performances have become the yardstick by which allothers are now measured. Set in the eternal city, the story of abu-se of power and thwarted love and passion unfolds in the Churchof St. Andrea della Valle, in the nearby Palazzo Farnese, and endsin tragedy in Castel Sant’Angelo. The Orchestra of the Teatrodell’Opera is conducted by Asher Fisch, and amongst the protago-nists are Csilla Boross, Thiago Arancam, Carlo Guelfi and Alessan-dro Spina.
