Four  characteristics  of  HOPE  (Ludema  et  al)    Hope  is  social-­‐it  lives  in  and  emerges  from  relationship.    Hope  is  sustained  by  dialogue  about  high  ideals.    (deep  moral  purpose)    Hope  is  inspired  by  the  conviction  that  the  future  can  be  Influenced.  (efficacy)    Hope  gives  rise  to  action.  It  changes  things.

It’s  important  that  we  make  a  distinction  between  happiness  and  joy.  What  is  the  difference?    Happiness  involves  a  victory  for  the  self..  (goals,  promotion,  great  meal,  graduation  etc)    Joy  tends  to  involve  some  transcendence  of  self..  it  is    a  by-­‐product  of  living  on  the  second  mountain.  A  narcissist  can  be  happy,  but  a  narcissist  can  never  be  joyful.

Top  character  strengths  are  signature  strengths.  Constellation  of  5-­‐6.    Use  our  signature  strengths  most  comfortably,  instinctively,  easily.      Energize  you,  make  you  feel  stronger.      When  you  can’t  use  your  strengths  you  may  feel  drained  or  frustrated.      Your  bottom  character  strengths  are  not  used  as  frequently  and  they  might  be  weaknesses.
