EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

This document contains 855 bibliographic citations on sea scallops, (Placopecten magellanicus), and other scallop species, indexed by author. This listing has been prepared as a supplement to a more comprehensive synopsis of biological data on sea scallops (in preparation1) and is intended both as an interim reference source and as a complementary source of reference material to the completed synopsis. A bibliography by Kopinski (1978) is more inclusive of other species and also provides annotations:"" The present bibliography includes citations through 1987 based primarily on searches of the Aquatic Science 'and Fisheries

"-Abstracts and other reference sources by the senior author prior to his death in 1988. Additional references have since been provided by the second author. This list has not been subjected to detailed peer review.

References appearing in this document include both published papers and "grey" literature, such as documents prepared under the auspices of the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES), The International Commission for the Northwest Atlantic Fisheries (ICNAF) and the Northwest Atlantic Fisheries Organization (NAFO). Citations are also given for reference documents from the National Marine Fisheries Service Northeast Fisheries Center laboratories. These documents are reviewed and archived inhouse.

Research vessel cruise reports are not included; however, Flescher (1980) has provided a complete listing of the reports for 1948-1979. More recent listings and cruise reports are available from the Woods Hole Laboratory.
