Fr. Mass' Column 6-26-16 > This is my last Sunday at St. Louis de Montfort parish. My term as Administrator ends Thursday, June 30. It has been a sometimes challenging and always rewarding experience for me. I believe we have accomplished much together in the first six months of this Turn Around process. There is plenty of work left to do for Fr. Stan, our new pastor, but we are fiscally organized, well staffed, and functioning smoothly. I will continue to offer Fr. Stan any help and advice he seeks from me. I want to thank all those who have helped and supported me during the six months I have been with you. You have been most welcoming and affirm-ing. I would list names of those who have been especially helpful to me, but then we would need extra pages in the bulletin. You know who you are. I do, however, want to thank Fr. Eze for all the help he has been to me in my time here. I will certainly remember St. Louis de Montfort Parish fondly and keep you and your new pastor in my prayers. I will now return to helping out at my former parish, Incarnation in Pa-los Heights. I was pastor there for 17 years and have many strong ties there. Some people have asked me about a “thank you” or “going away” party for me. I really don’t want anything like that. Whatever we have accomplished these past six months has been the result of the efforts of many people, not just me. I have always said that a pastor is nothing apart from his people, and that goes for administrators too. If you want to express any thanks to me, the best way you can do that is to show your support to Fr. Stan and to keep to the task of renewing St. Louis de Montfort Parish. > Our new parish website is up and running. It is still a work in progress, but we decided that we want to keep it dynamic, always developing and changing. So we put it on line now, in its yet incomplete stage. I want to thank our Technology committee, Donna and Chris Lau-ritzen, Bob Kaput, Barry Zakes, and Jerry Mitchell, for all the time and effort they have al-ready put in to this project. You can check it out at <sldmparish.org>. > I am pleased to announce that St. Louis de Montfort Parish has hired a new Music Director for the parish. She is Ms. Karen Deegan, former Music Director at Incarnation Parish and Our Lady of Loretto Parish. She has over 25 years of experience as a parish music director, has directed both adult and children’s choirs [vocal and bell choirs], and has worked with parish liturgy committees. She begins with us July 1. At the same time, I wish to thank Laverne Udell-Loman, parish music director, and Joan Mallady organist at the 11:30 mass for their many years of service to our parish. Rich Trusk and the “guitar choir” will continue at the 9:30 AM mass. > There will be a second collection today for “Peter’s Pence”. This collection goes to support the charitable work of Pope Francis throughout the world. Please be generous. > Beginning July 1, there will be two changes in our Sunday offering programs. For those who use envelopes, there is a new company providing them. You should have already re-ceived a mailing with envelopes for two months instead of one month. Your envelope number remains the same. If you have not received your envelopes, please call the parish office [708-599-5300]. For those who use “E-giving”, we are switching over to “Give Central”, effective July 1. Information on Give Central was published in last Sunday’s bulletin. Those who are currently using envelopes and would like to try electronic contributing can access Give Cen-tral at <givecentral.org>, enter St. Louis de Montfort, and follow prompts. If you have any difficulty with the process, you can call the parish office for assistance.

Message of the Week – The Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time Luke 9:51-62 “No one who sets a hand to the plow and looks to what was left behind is fit for the kingdom of God.” What have we left behind? What have we traded in to become faithful followers of Christ? The answer is different for all of us. Whatever the case, Jesus instructs us today to keep our focus on what lies ahead, namely, life in Christ and the ultimate hope of union with him in heaven. Keeping this focus can be quite a challenge. So often, it’s tempting to think that the grass is greener somewhere else. As Christians, we can fall into the trap of imagining that it might feel better to be ... something else. But thoughts like these are not fit for our new life as disciples of Christ. As St. Paul says in today’s epistle, “For freedom Christ set us free.” May we embrace the gift of this true freedom and follow Christ without looking back. Question of the Week: Why do think Jesus reacted so strictly to his would-be followers?

Blessed Mother Teresa Exhibit of Love and Mercy

Hosted by our Sharing Parish, St. Brides

July 14 to 21

A special presentation on life and work of Mother Teresa is coming to Saint Bride’s parish in South Shore. This amazing exhibit, brought to the Archdiocese by Blessed Teresa of Calcutta’s religious order of Sisters,

the Missionaries of Charity, has over 75 full color panels of her life story; from her birth and her vocation story, to her amazing work of love and mercy. A first class relic of Mother Teresa will also be on display. Come and explore this woman of God’s life and ministry as the Church prepares for her canonization in September 2016. The exhibit is in both English and Spanish. For more information, visit the Saint Bride’s parish website at
