Offensive Player of the WeekGiovanni Godoy, UC Irvine

Senior • Midfielder • Watsonville, Calif.

UC Irvine senior Giovanni Godoy registered a pair of game-winning goals as he claimed his first career Big West Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week award.

The midfielder scored in a 3-0 victory over Lipscomb and a 2-0 win at Loyola Marymount for his third and fourth goals of the year, respectively.

Godoy took 11 shots on the week, including a match-high tying five against the Lions. He was busy on offense throughout, posting three more shots in the Lipscomb match and in a 2-1 loss to San Francisco to conclude non-conference play.

Godoy converted a penalty kick goal in the 53rd minute to break a deadlock against LMU and give the Anteaters a 1-0 lead.

Earlier in the week, he was the first to strike again in a scoreless battle between UCI and Lipscomb. At the 63:49 mark, Godoy volleyed in a pass from Daniel Crisostomo for the 1-0 advantage. Godoy is tied for No. 2 in the Big West in both goals (4) and points (9).

Defensive Player of the WeekDaniel Crisostomo, UC Irvine

Junior • Midfielder • Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.

UC Irvine junior midfielder Daniel Crisostomo notched his first career Big West Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week honor after helping his team record two shutout wins while posting three assists.

Crisostomo contributed to a defensive effort that allowed Lipscomb to take just seven shots in a 3-0 UCI victory on Monday. While Loyola Marymount was more active, hold-ing a 17-13 shot advantage, Crisostomo and UCI did not buckle in a 2-0 blanking.

He impacted both wins offensively as well, producing three assists total to take over the Big West lead with five.

Cristostomo earned the game-winning assist against Lip-scomb as his pass found Giovanni Godoy for a volley and 1-0 lead. He also helped add an insurance goal against the Lions as he linked up with Jose Ortiz for an 83rd min-ute strike.

Others nominated: Simon Boehme (Cal Poly); Henrik Regitnig (CSUN); James Del Curto (Sacramento State); Adrian Adames (UC Santa Barbara)

Throw InsNCAA TOURNAMENT OPPONENTS ON TAPBig West squads are taking on a challenging 2017 men’s soccer non-conference schedule, playing a total of 12 contests versus nine different opponents ranked in the top 25 of the preseason United Soccer Coaches poll.

The non-conference slate looks even more impressive when considering the total number of opponents that reached the NCAA Tournament last year. Big West squads are play-ing a total of 22 contests against 14 different opponents who participated in the 48-team NCAA Tournament bracket.

Cal Poly has five NCAA Tourney foes on that list, including traditional powerhouses Indiana, Notre Dame and Maryland. UC Santa Barbara plays four of those teams, with heavyweight Akron among the battles. Cal State Fullerton faces a quartet of postseason participants – highly ranked Clemson the most prominent of them. CSUN and UC Irvine have three NCAA foes on their slates, including common opponents in New Mexico and Denver. The Anteaters also have a date with top-10 foe Louisville, while the Matadors are the lone Big West team to take on UCLA this year. All eight Big West squads play at least one opponent that appeared in the NCAA Tournament field last year.

Here is a list of opponents which played in last year’s NCAA Tournament.
