TEACHING EFFECTIVENESSThe Small Group Instructional Feedback (SGIF) process is a useful way to formatively gauge how well one’s teaching is matching student expectations. It is a mid-semester check on the pulse of the class and provides instructors with feedback about what instructional strategies are being effective for students and what adjustments might make the class better. Instructors are welcome to contact the Biggio Center to schedule an SGIF session with their class and can also schedule individual appointments to consult about methods to enhance their teaching.
NEW FACULTY SCHOLARS (NFS)Faculty new to Auburn University are nominated to this prestigious program which begins with workshops on promotion and tenure (P&T), academic writing and culminating in a spring retreat focusing on portfolio construction. All new faculty in tenure track or clinical faculty ranks are eligible to participate. Colleague Circles are formed and facilitated among NFS participants to provide a support group. Faculty receive a Certificate at the completion of the program.
PREPARING FUTURE FACULTY (PFF)The goal of the Preparing Future Faculty (PFF) Program is to prepare Auburn University graduate students to assume faculty roles, helping them understand the expectations and functional realities of faculty life, develop wider institutional and personal networks, and making graduate study even more responsive to disciplinary and professional needs. Graduate students from all disciplines at Auburn University are eligible to participate in the program. In 2012-13 the program will support 31 PFF Fellows.
The Biggio Center’s mission is to promote the professional development of all instructional, administrative, and professional staff in support of excellent teaching and enhanced learning. In keeping with Auburn University’s mission, the Biggio Center will draw upon new instructional and communication technologies to assist the design and delivery of educational programs on campus and beyond.
DISTANCE LEARNINGThe Distance Learning Program provides instructional design and delivery support for distance education to Auburn University faculty members. Guidance in design or redesign of web enhanced, hybrid and online courses including development of learning goals, content and instructional strategies is available through Distance Learning. Additionally, Testing Services are provided for Auburn University. These services are available to Auburn University students, faculty and the community. A wide range of testing is available to include Auburn testing, national proctored exams, and testing for other universities.
BREEDEN ENDOWED GRANTSThis program, made possible by the Daniel F. Breeden Endowment, offers financial support (up to $4,000) to encourage enhancement of teaching and learning through competitively selected projects and travel which directly benefit the instructor, AU students, and the University’s overall teaching program. Tenured/tenure-track faculty from any discipline, instructors, or clinical-track faculty may apply for a Breeden Endowed Grant. The Biggio Center awarded 9 grants in 2012.
CULTURAL INSIGHT PROGRAMThe Cultural Insight Program is a multi-tiered program providing comprehensive institutional support through skill development using Culture Bump® training, designed to leverage cultural, generational, gender, socio-economic and other differences in higher education, corporate, public and non-profit organizations. Several workshop and training models offer participants the opportunity to gain varying skill levels.
