To provide County and municipal government practitioners and developers with design guidance to implement Complete StreetsPurpose

Bicyclist Injuries SupportPedestrian Fatalities

Jimmy:

Thanks Jack, Last September, Mayor Gimenez and Commissioner Moss appointed 22 multi-disciplinary thought leaders to the Local Action Team for Safer People, Safer Streets (LAT). The taskforce was charged with tackling Miami-Dades dubious distinction as the 4th most dangerous metropolitan area in the nation for pedestrians. County departments including Parks, RER, Police, Transportation and Public Works and the MPO supported these efforts Id like to thank the staff in the room today. The Vision the Local Action Team developed was a More livable Miami-Dade by creating healthier, safer streets. We had a long discussion about outcomes and ultimately agreed that reducing bike and pedestrian crashes was our charge, but we had to create an environment that increases the rates of biking, walking and transit use as well.
