BIM… Not Just for Construction… A Solution For Facility Operations
Sunday, June 8, 2014 ▪ 2:30 pm – 3:45 pm, Hidalgo
Presented by: Keith Beck, Director, Division of Facilities Management, Wisconsin Bureau of Building Management Mark Cervenka, Manager, Facilities & Construction, Texas A&M University of Health Science Center
The concept of collecting BIM/COBiE data has been around for several years now. Using BIM for design and construction
has become a common practice in the industry. Yet, some institutions are not taking advantage of the opportunity to
gather this data for their operations and load it into their FM application. This presentation will provide a road map for
institutions to follow in order to collect and utilize this data from design to operations.
ABOUT THE SPEAKERS KEITH BECK has over 30 years of experience in facilities engineering and 25 years in facilities management with the
State of Wisconsin. Keith is the BIM-FM Handover champion and is responsible for the development and implementation
of the State’s BIM to FM Program. Keith has developed guidelines that specify model requirements and data exchange
methods. These guidelines define the path for data exchanges between BIM files and FM applications, from the initial
project concept phase through final commissioning and project closeout. MARK CERVENKA began working for the Texas A&M Health Science Center as the Facilities Manager in December
2006. Prior to working for the Health Science Center, Mark worked for the Texas A&M University System Facilities
Planning and Construction office. His responsibilities there involved the contract administration and budget management
of a $750m. construction management program. He received his Finance and Accounting degrees from Texas A&M
University. Mark’s current duties involve managing the facilities and construction operations of all Texas A&M Health
Science Center facilities and campuses. The HSC has campus locations across Texas in Dallas, Temple, Round Rock,
Bryan, College Station, Houston, Corpus Christi, Kingsville and McAllen. Recent accomplishments include monitoring the
design, construction and bringing into operation two new academic campuses in Round Rock and Bryan as well as the
installation of a new integrated, web-based Facilities Management System at all HSC campuses. These two new
campuses were green field campuses and represent the beginning of campus master plan developments. The Bryan
campus construction project included a BIM/COBIE deliverable from the design and construction contracts. Mark worked
extensively on the development of the scope and criteria used by the contractors to deliver this information.
