INTRODUCTION OF

“BINDAL PAPER INDUSTRY”

Corporate Office of Bindal Paper Industry is located at the mill

site in the city of Muzaffarnagar, one of the fastest growing

industrial belt’s of India’s congress (U.P.). It is located 8km from

Bhopa Road, Muzaffarnagar.

Air pollution cause by Bindal Paper Industry

The gas which are released from Bindal Paper Industry which

cause air pollution are Nitrogen-di-oxide (NO2), Sulphur-di-oxide

(SO2) and Carbon-di-oxide (CO2) are all emitted during paper

manufacturing.

Harmful effect of air pollution cause by Bindal Paper

Industry :

The harmful effect which are cause by Bindal Paper Industry

during release of gases i.e. Nitrogen-di-oxide and Sulphur-di-

oxide are major contribution of acid rain where as CO2 is green

house gas responsible for climate change.

Policies of Bindal Paper Industry for controlling air

pollution :

The Bindal Paper Industry was Bag house for controlling air

pollution.

Bag House – Designed to handle heavy dust loads a dust

collecter consist of a blower, dust filter, a filter – cleaning

system and dust receptacle are dust removed system

(distinguished for air cleaners which utilized disposal filter to

remove the dust).

Water Pollution by Bindal Paper Industry:

The waste water released from Bindal Paper Industry are solids,

nutrients and dissolved organic matter and unless at low levels

these are called pollutants.

Harmful effects of water pollution released by Bindal

Paper Industry:

The harmful effects cause by water which are released from

Bindal Paper Industry are nutrients such as nitrogen and

phosphorus can cause exctrate entrophication of fresh water

bodies such as lakes, rivers, waste water may also be polluted

with organo chlorine compounds.

Policies for controlling water pollution by Bindal Paper

Industry:

The policies for treatment of water pollution used by Bindal

Paper Industry is treatment of toxic materials coming with water

i.e. acids, alkalies, metallic elements by using advanced

oxidation process. In this method metal can often be precipitated

out by emerging the pH or by treatment with other chemicals.

ENVIRONMENTAL FRIENDLY

BLEACHING PROCESS USED BY BINDAL

PAPER INDUSTRY

D1 Stage - Bleaching with chlorine-di-oxide.

ECP – Alkali extraction with oxygen and per oxide.

The unbleached pulp is subject to bleaching by Chlorine Di-oxide

- Extraction with Alkali, oxygen & peroxide — Chlorine Di-oxide

(De- Eop- Di) sequence. The sequence is adopted so that the AOX

levels are retained within the permissible limits. The chlorine di-

oxide is added in first stage to loosen the Iignin from the

cellulose fiber. The caustic is added in extraction stage to raise

the pl-I & to precipitate the chloro-Iignate compounds. Oxygen &

peroxide are added in the pulp at extraction stage that produces

bleaching effect on the pulp. The chlorine di-oxide is again

added in the 3rd stage of bleaching to achieve the desired

brightness level of 85-88% ISO. The main advantages of

adopting this bleaching sequence are —

Page 9: Bin Dal Paper Mill

Reduction in BOD, COD & AOX in bleaching plant

effluent by 30-35%.

Gain in concentration of black liquor resulting better

runnability of soda recovery plant.

Improvement in pulp quality, i.e., gain in brightness,

viscosity & strength properties.

CONCLUSION

The use of environment-friendly techniques and eco-friendly

products in pulp & paper manufacturing gives a whole new

dimension to the industry. Today, as the population increases at

rapid rate, the demand for paper increases too. To feed this

demand, the forest based raw materials are becoming scarce. So

the industry & research institutions are searching new products

for preparation of Pulp & paper. Bindal Papers Limited is one

such industry that is using eco-friendly technology to

manufacture the Elemental-Chlorine Free (ECF) paper and is

earning a good name in the market by producing quality paper

using the agro-based raw materials.

The management is eager to introduce new concepts in

development of new products by using safe & sound

technologies that also pose no danger to the environment &

natural resources by keeping itself sustained in the market. Use

of enzymes is one such approach in which the industry is keen to

venture further to reduce the production cost and to develop

clean & green products.
