Introduction

Market research was required to provide up-to-date data on consumer awareness, understanding and interest in biodiversity, following an initial benchmark survey in 2010.

An agreed questionnaire was included in the April No.2 wave of B&A’s Barometer survey.

Barometer is a nationally representative survey of the adult population, aged 16+, quota controlled on gender, age, social class and region to correctly reflect the known demographics of the Republic of Ireland. Both 2010 and 2016 surveys are based on samples of 1,000.

B&A fieldwork took place between 14th – 24th April, 2016, with the 2010 fieldwork taking place 13th – 22nd April, 2010.

TECHNICAL DETAILS

TIMING

The report references EU and ROI data from the following Flash EuroBarometer surveys: 2007 Flash EB 219, 2010 Flash EB 290, 2013 Flash EB 379. Note: EB did not update all questions each year. Full EB data is based on c.25,500 interviews, whilst EB Ireland data is based on a sample of 1,000.

Proportion of population making an effort has increased, but remains well behind EU. Difference in Flash EB Ireland and B&A data, may be due to ‘social conscience’ framing effect of EB. B&A omnibus

more eclectic mix of topics, which may elicit a gut reaction – more real life response.
