INTRODUCTION

CREATIVE ASSETS: Nature4Climate has created a suite of assets to be shared alongside the release of the IPBES report – its first ever global biodiversity assessment.

We would like to use the attention and reach of this landmark report to reassert the connection between climate and nature. We need ambitious global targets by

2020 to protect the insects, birds, plants and mammals that are vital for global food production, clean water and carbon sequestration. Similarly, without nature, we

can’t meet our climate goals. Climate change and biodiversity loss are two sides of the same coin as these social assets show. We want to engage a broad audience on

this topic, so we have carefully crafted social assets that can be used by your organization to tell the biodiversity and climate story.

SUGGESTED COPY: Suggested social copy to complement the creative assets has been provided. Please feel free to use this copy as is, or tailor the copy to suit your

organization’s tone of voice.

LINKS: We have published a range of stories and statements that are available for you to link to, or you can link to alternative content.

● Measuring the state of the world’s wildlife: here

● Critters and climate change; some unlikely heroes: here

● IPBES statement: This will be released here on Monday 6th May.

WHEN: Although the assets can be used as evergreen content, we are officially launching the assets with the release of the Global Assessment report on Monday 6th

May. Embargo timing for this report is currently set at Monday 6th May 1300 CET, 0700 ET.

GENERAL

● The recently released IPBES #GlobalAssessment report analyzes the implications of biodiversity loss and prospects for people and nature.

Read about the critical interrelationship between biodiversity and climate change: [Link]

● The threat from biodiversity loss will be as big a challenge to the world as rising temperatures. Read about the critical interrelationship

between biodiversity and climate change: [Link]

● The IPBES #GlobalAssessment highlights the critical interrelationship between biodiversity and climate change. From beavers restoring

wetlands to pangolins protecting forest from termite destruction, learn more about these vital relationships: [Link]

● Climate change is already affecting nature in many parts of the world and causing biodiversity loss. Some species may be lost permanently, if

they are not provided with enough time and space to adapt to changing climatic conditions. Read about the critical interrelationship between

biodiversity and climate change: [Link] #GlobalAssessment

● The newly released #GlobalAssessment by IPBES is the next big piece of evidence after the ‘IPCC 1.5 Special Report’, calling for drastic action

from businesses and governments to reverse a downwards ecological spiral. Read about the critical interrelationship between biodiversity

and climate change: [Link]

GENERAL CONTINUED

● More species are threatened with extinction now than at any other time in human history. Habitat loss, pollution, overfishing,

over-exploitation of resources and climate change are all taking their toll. Read about the critical interrelationship between biodiversity and

climate change: [Link] #IPBES #GlobalAssessment

BEAVERS

● In light of the release of #IPBES’s #GlobalAssessment, we are applauding some of our planet’s unlikely climate heroes, starting with the

beaver. Read about the critical interrelationship between biodiversity and climate change: [Link]

● Unlikely climate hero 1# Beaver.

Beavers help create ponds and wetlands, which are good for wildlife, and restore some of the world’s most powerful carbon sinks. Read about

the critical interrelationship between biodiversity and climate change: [Link] #GlobalAssessment

● Did you know that by creating dams, beavers transform degraded wetlands into some of the most powerful carbon sinks on the planet? Read

about the critical interrelationship between biodiversity and climate change: [Link] #GlobalAssessment

PANGOLINS

● Unlikely climate hero 2# Pangolin.

One pangolin can protect an area of forest as large as 31 football fields from termite destruction, enabling forests to absorb CO2 and

produce oxygen at scale. Read about the critical interrelationship between biodiversity and climate change: [Link] #GlobalAssessment

● Did you know that one pangolin can protect large forests from termite destruction, therefore enabling forests to absorb CO2 and produce

oxygen at scale? Read about the critical interrelationship between biodiversity and climate change: [Link] #GlobalAssessment

AFRICAN FOREST ELEPHANT

● Unlikely climate hero 3# African forest elephant.

African forest elephants disperse large seeds, keep the forest canopy open, and spread nutrients around the forest. The loss of these

elephants would mean less carbon sequestration. Read about the critical interrelationship between biodiversity and climate change: [Link]

● Did you know that African forest elephants are key to the growth and survival of large trees? The loss of these elephants would mean less

carbon sequestration by Africa’s forests. Read about the critical interrelationship between biodiversity and climate change: [Link]

NATURAL CLIMATE SOLUTIONS

● We cannot achieve the Paris Agreement climate goals without allowing nature to do more to capture and store greenhouse gas emissions.
