Checklist Key
Bird presence designations (except for Occasional or Accidental sightings) were calculated using the 2015-2018 data from Cloudbridge’s long-term bird monitoring survey. Designations are based on the percentage of total survey days when that bird was seen. Occasional and Accidental designations include birds seen outside of official surveys, and citizen science data (eBird 2018) provided the bird identification was from a trusted source or could be verified.
V Very Common: Sighted >75% of survey days
C Common: Sighted 50 - 75% of survey days
F Fairly Common: Sighted 25 - 50% of survey days
U Uncommon: Sighted 5 - 25% of survey days
RRare: Sighted >0 - 5% of survey days, every or almost every year
O Occasional: Sighted occasionally, but not every year
A Accidental: Only 1 or 2 individuals ever reported, or sightings occur over 4 years apart
(e) Endemic to Costa Rica and Panama

Birding in the Clouds
Cloudbridge is a 283 hectare (700 acre) cloud forest reserve on the Pacific slope of the Talamanca mountains in Costa Rica. A reforestation project, the reserve is home to well established regenerating forest, as well as areas of primary montane oak forest. At an altitude of 1500-2600 m (4900-8500 ft), almost 300 mid- and high elevation bird species have be found within our borders.
Our hiking trails are open 365 days a year. Entry is by donation ($6 USD or 3000 colones is typical), to help keep the reserve accessible to all. All donations go back to the reserve to help maintain the trails, and fund research and education projects, like our long-term bird monitoring study.
Bird tours with local, knowledgeable guides can be arranged upon request. See our website for more information.
