sporting summer!
I can’t quite believe it’s finally the Olympic summer. It only seems like yesterday that it was announced that London would be hosting the 2012 games and now we are here! So, to try and keep you extra entertained this summer, we’ve got a jam packed
BitesizeBLT with lots of exciting news!
To start with; the Brentwood Centre is incredibly proud to be hosting Brentwood’s Gone Global, the penultimate Olympic cultural festival before the big finale at Hylands Park in Chelmsford. There will be a procession and performance with Boreas Zephyr (the character travelling around Essex promoting the events). For more info visit pg.10.
If preparing for Brentwood’s Olympic festival wasn’t enough, we’ve got 4 new developments this summer. We’ve got a new cafe/bar in our main reception, a new martial arts centre, the Brentwood Barbell Club and our very own Physiotherapy unit with Ross Poyton. The ‘what’s new’ section on page 3 gives you more info on all these exciting projects!
Whilst all this exciting stuff is going on, we would like to continue providing the best service possible. If you want to keep up with us on a day-to-day basis then make sure you follow us on Twitter or ‘like’ us on Facebook. We post regular updates, info and any important changes that are happening, so make sure you stay tuned.
We hope you have a lovely sporting summer and we look forward to seeing and helping you achieve your goals.

offers: swim for £1!
Patrick grew up a short distance from Sydney on a farm and has spent most of his life riding motorbikes. Between the ages of 5 and 8 years he was winning Flight Track Racing, then moved onto Motorcross at 12 combining his bike interests with playing Rugby League. At 17 years old Patrick’s interest moved to road bikes and after a brush with the law decided to take his adrenaline addiction from racing on the roads to the track.
When Patrick was 19 years old he won the Superstock 600 and was quickly picked up by Yamaha who he successfully raced with winning the Superstock 1000 in 2009. Then in 2010 following a 3rd place in Formula Extreme, Patrick had a string of crashes breaking his wrist, damaging his knee and being knocked unconscious. This shattered his confidence and he struggled to regain his winning performances. However, he returned to form
and won the last race of the season and Yamaha renewed their contract with him for 2011.
Patrick felt like he needed to move up a level and find a true test of his skills, so using contacts at Yamaha he was put in touch with the Kawasaki team in the UK who were willing to watch him race and assess his suitability for their team. Patrick flew over to the UK and raced for 2 days at Brands Hatch finishing 14th, this was enough to get the team’s attention and he was offered a contract at a price, he would need to fund himself until he could rank high enough to gain sponsors.
So now looking at the 2012 season, Patrick is getting ready to race in the UK on a Kawasaki Ninja ZX10R in the British Superstock 1000 supporting the British Superbike series. The series will have 12 rounds starting Easter weekend and finishing mid October with every 2nd race live on Eurosport.

I have been working in the fitness industry for
just over 5 months now but have been involved
with sport and fitness from the age of 7. I have
played a range of sports over the years, which
include Thai boxing, football, rugby, athletics,
bodybuilding and am a big fan of power lifting.
Participating in these sports has given me great
experience into how to train specifically for
certain goals that you want to achieve. I would
like to use all my knowledge and experience
into helping people achieving their required
targets, whether they are weight loss, muscle
mass, strength and conditioning, toning or
just improving overall fitness and health.
I am currently undertaking my Level 3
REPs Personal Trainer certificate which will
allow me to train clients on a one to one basis, as this will be my next
step on the fitness ladder.

gymnastics, swimming and military style
sky- diving. I decided to gain a qualification
as a fitness instructor so that I could share
my love of fitness with others and to work
with children. That was 30 years ago, and
since then I have worked with both adults
and children in several countries before
joining The Brentwood Centre 11 years
ago. My qualifications stretch from gym
and circuit instructor to personal training,
kickboxing, yoga, power plates and
working with people with disabilities.
I enjoy close contact with people in the
gym and my aim is to share my passion
for fitness with them and help them achieve their goals.
In my spare time I love mountain trekking and have done it all over the
world, from the Himalayas and Mount Kilimanjaro to the Andes and the
volcanoes of Hawaii. I have conquered them all, been to 22,000 feet and
have plans for more!

The Physio TeamBrentwood Leisure Trust is very excited and pleased to welcome to Brentwood Centre Ross Poyton and his team of Physiotherapists. The Physio Team will be offering BLT members and the local community a highly professional and comprehensive programme of treatments and rehabilitation in order to keep active and improve well-being.
We caught up with Ross to ask him about his new move to The Brentwood Centre.
How long have you been a physiotherapist?I’ve been working in a private practice for over 10 years, having completed my BSc (Hons) degree in Physiotherapy in 2001. I then went on to study at the Curtin University in Perth, Western Australia (2007) where I gained a Masters in manipulation to a level of high distinction and was awarded the coveted ‘Brian Edwards Prize’ for clinical excellence. Can you tell me a bit about the service that you will be offering at The Brentwood Centre? We are a musculoskeletal service and have years of experience in treating spinal and sports injuries. All our physios regularly treat back and neck pain, ankle pain, headaches, knee pain, tennis elbow, arthritis, whiplash, shoulder pain, degenerative conditions and work related disorders.
Do you need to have a referral or can you just book and be treated?Anyone can ring and make an appointment (self referral). However, we are registered with all major insurance companies e.g Bupa, AXA PPP and accept referrals from consultants and GP’s
What treatments can you offer? The physio team offers a wide range of treatments that include manipulation, mobilisation, soft tissue massage, acupuncture and comprehensive functional rehabilitation programmes. We can also provide corticosteroid injections where necessary.
Will Brentwood Centre members be able to have a discount for treatments?Yes, we are happy to offer all annual members a reduced fee.
What will be your opening hours? We are initially planning to operate by appointment, so we will try and accommodate patients when it is most suitable for them. Initially we are looking to do Monday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoon / evenings. You can book an appointment on 07799 694673.
The team from left to right: Ketan Patel, Victoria Hollins-Baker, Ross Poyton and Simon Cannon.
