It is always amazing how the pine trees know when summer ends. One day you are sitting on your deck enjoying a good book in the sun and the next day fall arrives and the pine trees start dumping their pine needles at an alarming rate. I am sure we all groan at the thought of picking up all of those pine needles and wish we could sell each one for a penny a piece. But we can’t complain too much. Fall is one of the nicest seasons of the year in Bend and Mt. High looks so beautiful with the changing of colors of the Aspens, Birches, Maples, etc.

The Board continues to work on the important issues we face in Mt. High. We have no major breakthroughs to report at the moment, but continue to look for answers and ways to adapt to the new realities. The pool has been closed and the contractor has been working on finishing the details that were not finished when we opened in June. The Pickleball season has come to an end. It was a very successful season and many of our neighbors took advantage of the opportunity and enjoyed learning a new sport.

I did not get much response to the question in the last Bits n Pieces regarding the idea of introducing more activities in Mt. High. I will leave the idea on the table and we can re-visit it at any time.

Some neighbors noticed that the corner where Mt. High loop meets Mt. High Drive is now bereft of trees. The City of Bend is doing some major work on the water pipes under that section which is an important artery to all three villages. There will be work on that corner for a few weeks so please drive carefully. Make sure you turn off your irrigation systems by October 15 so they can be properly winterized.

The ponds are like sieves and John Williamson is getting more information on alternative and comparative approaches to handle the ponds by the Country Club entrance and in Aspen Village and Willow Creek’s pond and creek.

Robert and Colleen are happy to be here in Aspen Village where they are close to their daughter and family. They have the one daughter here and a son in North Carolina and another son in Honolulu with their families. Five grand children and eight great grand children altogether.

Robert is from Scotland where he spent 6 years in the British Navy during WWII and was on an LSD at Normandy. He got out in 1946 and since then he and

Colleen have lived in several states and have travelled throughout the world.

Colleen has a Masters degree in art and is prolific in oils and watercolor. She says she intends to keep painting as long as she can.

Getting to know and have Robert and Colleen in our village is quite and interesting and delightful treat.

Bobbie Long bought her new Aspen Village home last spring, and immediately began an extensive redecorating job. While the work was being done, she stayed with her good friend Janet Millen, whose home is in Alpine Village. Bobbie has enjoyed many visits with Janet and those experiences helped influence her to move to Bend. The two are long-time friends who share a love of and talent for china painting, which Bobbie has showcased in her new home. They also get together weekly with a group of Mountain High neighbors who do their china painting together. Bobbie likes to knit and is interested in watercolor painting.

Prior to arriving in Bend, Bobbie lived in the San Fernando Valley, in Chatsworth, California. She and her husband

also lived in Sedona, AZ for a number of years. During her years in southern CA, Bobbie owned two businesses; a beauty parlor, and a fabric store. Her husband was a retired Los Angeles Police Department detective. Bobbie has a daughter living in Shingle Springs, CA and a son who retired from his job with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s department and lives in Sunriver. Two of her four grandchildren live in Shingle Springs, one is in Mississippi, and one lives in Bend. She also has two great-grandchildren living in California.

Bobbie finds the slower pace and the very friendly people in Bend and Mt. High to be wonderful additions to her beautiful new home and community.

    Welcome to our community.

TheftI thought that I would pass on to our neighbors that a visitors car, parked in our driveway overnight, was broken into and some items stolen.

The theft occurred during the night, between 10.00pm and 7.00am the next morning, and it’s apparent that the thieves drive or walk through our community looking for such an opportunity.
