The Academy will have four classes: Reception 1, Reception 2, Year One and Year Two. After weighing the benefits and speaking with several parents, we believe this is the best decision for our existing students and Learn Different Academy. Registration for Year 2 will take place shortly. With growth and change comes new staff. We will be hiring a new senior teacher to replace Ms. Getty, Reception 1, as well as a co-teacher for the next academic year to replace Ms. Jaja, Reception 2 while both are on maternity leave. On the therapy side, we are adding a new speech therapist to assist our current speech therapist with new student trials, small group work for Acade- my students as well as to serve LD Integrated Therapy. Additionally, if you haven’t read the recent announcement, we have added to Ms. Christina Chia to our Learning Support team. We will announce other appointments as soon as we have formalized all paperwork. Again, thank you for your continued support of Learn Different! PTCs & Learn Different Academy Going Forward

topic for the next few

weeks so I am sure we

will all be superstar

clock readers by the

end!

We have also been re-

viewing the phonic

sounds we have cov-

ered so far this term

and really like to play

the jumping bean

game as a warm-up

We have had two short

weeks in a row but we

have been very busy

here in Reception 2!

We have started to

learn about time and

we are really enjoying

playing online clock

games and working

through our time

workbook. We will be

continuing with this

Our Year One stu-dents have been busy as bees over the past two weeks. We have concluded our unit – Inven-tions & Machines – by showcasing our very own creations to everybody during the Invention Show. Everybody was im-pressed with their inventions. Literacy & Maths are getting more and more challenging as the year progresses. In Literacy, our dis-cussion of the book Possum Magic has

activity.

Adjectives have been

a hot topic in our

class over the last few

weeks. We are writing

very descriptive sen-

tences lately which

are making our

writing a lot more ex-

citing to read!

We are sadly saying

goodbye to Ms. Jessi-

We also talked about how adjectives make our stories more col-ourful, identifying the main ideas and noting details in a story.

In Maths, the stu-dents applied their knowledge of addition and subtraction by

led us to topics be-yond the ‘who, what, when and where’. The Possum Magic book served as a window to answering questions that involve higher or-der thinking skills like—If you don’t know how something happened, do you think it’s magic?, Would you believe something that you don’t see? Why? It is interesting how a sim-ple book can unlock different doors in the brain and lead to vari-ous deeper and great-er worldly concepts.

ca this week as she is

leaving for America.

However, we would

like to warmly wel-

come our new co-

teacher, Ms. Diana

Thomas. I'm sure she

will be a brilliant ad-

dition to our class!

Lastly, thank you to

all the parents for

attending the PTCs.

forming number bonds and by answer-ing word problems. With the aid of blocks, cubes and models the students were able to navigate their way through each prob-lem.

Next week, we start

our new unit – Fit &

Right! We can’t wait

to get started!

friends and teach-ers about their fa-vourite toys and how they played with them.

Thanks again to all the parents who attended the Parent Teacher Confer-ences. It was lovely to see you all. Last-ly, welcome to our class Habibi !

joyed the activity.

In literacy, the young-

er group reviewed

their initial sounds

(m,a,s,d,t) and they

also started blending,

while the older group

continued with their

digraphs and conso-

nant blends as well (fl,

fr, bl, br). In Maths we

are moving on to

weights/mass and we

learned how to use a

categorize things into shapes, colours, size and many more. We practised cutting and pasting to show the different categories where the shapes be-longed.

Time sure flies. To cel-

ebrate the end of our

IPC unit Toys, the Re-

ception 1 made our

own toys. We decided

to make a robot voice

talk box out of straws,

balloons and sticky

tape. Then the class

presented our toys to

the other classes and

showed them how to

make one for them-

selves. Everyone en-

In Literacy, we prac-tised The Black Hat Bob and made it into a play. We presented it in front of all our friends during the Fri-day assembly. We also learned about NOUNS. We divided ourselves into noun groups such as things, person and places so that the children found it easier to rec-ognize NOUNS. In Maths, we rounded up our shapes theme with classifying and sorting. We learned to

weight balance scale.

Next we learn about

capacity and make

comparisons using

containers around

the classroom. This

week we even played

a relay game where

we needed to pour

water from one con-

tainer to another

without any spillage.

Just for fun!

To end our IPC unit TOYS, our friends from Reception 1 came to do a presen-tation. They talked about the toys they made all by them-selves and also taught us how to sound like a robot using a balloon and a straw!! In return, our class showed them the toys that we made ourselves using less than 10 items that can be easily found around us. We also interviewed our

Whew! We sure did

our best in all those

activities and we are

really are proud of all

our work.
