About the PlaywrightConrad Seiler (ca. 1897–1960) was an American playwright active from the 1920s to 1950s.
In addition to The Wonderful Adventures of Don Quixote, Seiler wrote a number of children’s plays, including The Clown Who Ran Away, The Clown and His Circus, The Clown Out West, The Princess and the Swineherd (a collaboration with his wife, actress Gwendolen Logan), End of the Rainbow, Let’s Go to the Moon, and Hurray for the Circus! He also wrote many farces and comedies, including Problem Father, Why I Am a Bachelor, Bachelor’s Wife, The Stronger Sex, Our Girls, What’s Wrong with the Girls, Harmony House, and Good Night, Caroline, among others.
Seiler wrote several plays—including the satirical Censored (1936), which both tested and mocked the limits of acceptable speech of the time, and the social drama Sweet Land (1937), about Southern sharecroppers attempting to unionize black farmworkers—under the auspices of the Federal Theatre Project, a Depression-era Work Progress Administration program that helped creators and performers continue their artistic work. The FTP’s funding was discontinued following accusations from the Dies Committee on Un-American Activities that the resulting plays promoted Communism and racial integration.
About the AuthorMiguel de Cervantes Saavedra (1547–1616) was a Spanish writer of the late sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries. A contemporary of Shakespeare, he led a colorful life worthy of its own novel, suffering serious injuries in battle before being captured by pirates, enslaved, and eventually ransomed; marrying one woman and fathering a daughter by another within the same year; being imprisoned for irregularities in his accounts while working as a tax collector; and writing poetry, plays, short stories, and novels throughout.
Though he wrote other well-regarded works, his best known and most commercially successful was Don Quixote (published in two volumes in 1605 and 1615), widely acknowledged as the first modern novel and so internationally influential that the protagonist’s name has become an adjective in many languages. The picaresque work turned the notion of chivalric romance popular in the preceding centuries on its head, infusing well-known tropes with humor, humanism, and realism. It is a work rare in its continued relevance and accessibility.

This production is entered in the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival (KCACTF). The aims of this national theater education program are to identify and promote quality in college-level theater production. To this end, each production entered is eligible for a response by a regional KCACTF representative, and selected students and faculty are invited to participate in KCACTF programs involving scholarships, internships, grants and awards for actors, directors, dramaturgs, playwrights, designers, stage managers and critics at both the regional and national levels. Productions entered on the Participating level are eligible for invitation to the KCACTF regional festival and may also be considered for national awards recognizing outstanding achievement in production, design, direction and performance. Last year more than 1,300 productions were entered in the KCACTF involving more than 200,000 students nationwide. By entering this production, our theater department is sharing in the KCACTF goals to recognize, reward, and celebrate the exemplary work produced in college and university theaters across the nation.

April 28: THE INTERGALACTIC NEMESIS: Target Earth, mashing up comic book and radio play formats into a one-of-a-kind theatrical experience—“Something you must experience if you’re a fan of awesome!” (collider.com)—the live-action graphic novel!
