It was HOT all the month of July and the weekend of the Counts 49th annual Rod Run was no exception. It was pushing 100 degrees but that didn’t stop entrants as well as club members from enjoying the cruising that the Counts are well known for. Friday was a poker run that took you up north as well as 2 garage tours and was followed by an ice cream social and the fun “White Elephant” gift exchange. Saturday started off with a drivers meet- ing and coffee and cookies at the club house. This was followed by the famous Black Hills Rod Run that covered 140 miles of beautiful Black Hills scenery, including Spearfish Canyon and the Deadwood/ Lead area. We stopped in Lead for sandwiches and drinks before heading to the Canyon and Spearfish on our way back to the clubhouse. Thanks go out to Dan Duncan for setting up this year’s run. Then it was time for another great dinner of ham and potatoes pre- pared by Kurt followed by ice cream . On the continuing saga of hot weather, Sunday started out hot and got hotter with it topping outat 103 degrees. That didn’t stop the cars from showing up. 246 cars were registered. Itappeared that their were more vendors on the street corners than ever before. If they were sellingcold drinks or anything wet they had a line .It’s always neat to see so many new or haven’t- been- out -of- the- garage-in-a –very-long-timecars that this event brings to the public. The Counts were there in force bright and early to park cars.JN

It was a warm June 10th when the 4th annual TVAS all-FREE car show and celebration took place. There were 50 plus cars, trucks and sports cars on display at the local gas station/convenience store andmechanical shop in the little town of Hulett, Wyoming (Pop. 843). What was so cool about this show isthat Jeff, the store owner, is a car guy and a member of the Texas Trail Cruisers out of Moorcroft, WY.He almost single handedly organizes this annual free show and provides lots of food and drink to keepeveryone satisfied. This included free hamburgers and hot dogs with all the sides including home madecookies and all the Pepsi products you could drink. Try to put this show on your list of places to go.There were quite a few Rapid City cars in attendance but not many Counts. JN

The Counts were approached in April to co-sponsor a car show at the Black Hills HarleyDavidson dealership just north of the Inter-state. This was to be a Friday evening (late af-ternoon) event with free food, music and mer-chandise drawings through out the evening. The date was set for June 23rd. And the adver-tising was set in place. One thing I can sayabout the guys that own and promote the Har-ley brand they do know their job! By 5 pm thecars and bikes started to roll in and it appearedthat their were at least 30+ cars in the lot alongwith at least that many motorcycles. The food was absolutely excellent, the best beefbrisket sandwiches you ever tasted served withbarbeque sauce, baked beans and chips chaseddown with free beer, coffee or assorted sodaflavors.Out in the east parking lot there were 2 carsdrifting and putting on a show and in front ofthe building was a guy on a motorcycle doingsquirrely burnouts. It appeared that the Counts weren’t too wellrepresented mainly due to the fact that it wasBack to the 50’s weekend in St. Paul .
