Blessed Lord, accept this burning candle as a sign of my faith and love for You.

Like this candle, I am ready to be used in your service without asking why and to what

purpose. Even as this candle, I wish to stand in Your presence and to be consumed in the light and warmth of our Love. Please hear my prayer

and, if it is Your will, grant my petition. But above all, make me loyal and faithful to You in

all circumstances of my life. Amen.

SATURDAY, DECEMBER 19TH 11:00 AM — 1:00 PM.

The Book Review for this week is Unbound - A Practical Guide to Deliverance, which was written by Neal Lozano. This would also

be a great Christmas gift to either a loved one or your-self. The answer to "What is Deliverance?" can be found in Colossians 1:13-14, where it says, "He has delivered us from the dominion of darkness and transferred us to the Kingdom of His Beloved Son, in Whom we have Re-demption, the forgiveness of sins." The verses from Colossians also serve as an excellent summary of this book, and the Unbound ministry itself. While modernists make fun of such things, anyone who has read their Bible knows that there are many references in Scripture to the work of demons and evil spirits. Un-bound is not about exorcisms, but rather manifestations of evil spirits, and how to gain freedom from them. The evil one and his followers lie to you and try to keep you trapped in those lies to prevent you from having the Free-

dom that Jesus Christ offers to everyone. God created everything and then created Adam and Eve. He gave everything to them, but in Chapter 3 of Genesis, the serpent causes Eve to doubt God's love, and they commit the first sin. As Jesus said in John 8:44, "You belong to your father the devil and you willingly carry out your father's desires. He was a murderer from the beginning and does not stand in truth, because there is no truth in him. When he tells a lie, he speaks in character, because he is a liar and the father of lies." Unbound is a very good book and an even better instruc-tion manual on how to have Freedom in Jesus Christ. This freedom of Jesus is when you learn how to reject the evil one and accept God's Grace instead. I decisively give this book Five Beards out of Five Beards. I know some people that have used Unbound to completely open themselves to God's freedom and peace. I invite you to find this freedom. NOTHING beats it!

FROM DEACON DAN’S DESK It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas…. The sights, the sounds, the smells, that enhance the spirit of Christmas in all of us. For me and many others it’s the classic Christ-mas songs and carols. For this rendering, I’d

like to focus on the “Twelve Days of Christmas” classic and the true meaning behind the lyrics. To many people, the lyrics of the song seem strange beyond belief, at least for me they seem a little odd, and this coming from a man who is an oddity in itself. “The twelve days of Christmas” is an English carol by origin. It has levels of meaning in addition to a hidden meaning. The song was created as a secret code for Christians being persecuted for their faith. Each element in the carol has a code word for a religious reality which the children could remember, therefore the songs gifts are the hidden meanings to the teachings of the faith. Each of the twelve days in the lyrics, has two levels of meaning: the “surface” meaning plus a “hidden” meaning. Let’s take a closer look. The song begins with the “true love” and one might think that this is merely a smitten boy or girl, but the hidden meaning of the lyric “On the first day of Christmas my true love gave to me… a partridge in a pear tree.” The partridge in a pear tree represents Jesus whose birthday we celebrate on the first day of Christmas. Christ is symbolically presented as a mother partridge, the only bird that will die to protect its young. “On the second day of Christmas my true love gave to me...two turtle doves.” These twin birds represent the old and new testaments. So in this gift we find the complete story of Judeo-Christian faith and God’s plan for the world. The doves are evident throughout scripture. “On the third day of Christmas my true love gave to me...three French hens.” These birds represent faith, hope and love. This gift takes us to St. Paul’s letter to the Co-rinthians, 1:13, the love chapter. “On the fourth day of Christmas my true love gave to me...four calling birds.” The gift of these four fowls are the four gospels-Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. “On the fifth day of Christmas my true love gave to me...Five golden rings.” The gifts of the rings represents the first five books of the Old Testament known as the Pentateuch.

“On the sixth day of Christmas my true love gave to me...six geese a-laying.” This gift can be traced back to the first story of creation found in Genesis. Each egg is a day in creation, a time when the world was hatched or formed by God. “On the seventh day of Christmas my true love gave to me...seven swans a swimming.” Hidden in this code are the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit: Wisdom, Understand-ing, Right Judgement, Courage, Knowledge, Reverence, Wonder & Awe! As swans are one of the most beautiful an graceful creatures on earth, they lend themselves to be a perfect symbol for the spiritual gifts. “On the eighth day of Christmas my true love gave to me...eight maids a-milking. Being a milkmaid was about the worst job one could have in England during the peri-od. As Christ came to save even the lowest of the low, this gift represents the ones who would receive His word and accept His grace. The eight who were blessed includ-ed; the poor in spirit, those who mourn, the meek, those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, the merciful, the pure in heart, the peacemakers, and those who are perse-cuted for righteousness sake. “On the ninth day of Christmas my true love gave to me...nine ladies dancing. These nine dancers represent, the gifts of the “fruits of the Holy Spirit.” The fruits of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithful-ness, gentleness and self-control. “On the tenth day of Christmas my true love gave to me...ten lords a-leaping. As lords were judges and in charge of the law, these are the gifts of the ten command-ments as given by God. “On the eleventh day of Christmas my true love gave to me...eleven pipers piping. This one is a little tricky. Most think of the disciples in terms of a dozen. But when Judas betrayed Jesus and committed suicide, there were then eleven who carried out the gospel message. The gift to us is our call to discipleship. And lastly, “On the twelfth day of Christmas my true love gave to me...twelve drummers drumming. This final gift is so important as it is tied directly to the Catholic Church. The drummers are the twelve points of doctrine in the “Apostles Creed.”
