Summer 1:Year 6 Writing Tasks
On the following pages, there are three writing tasks with additional tasks to help you. The three writing tasks are
1. Write a setting description2. Write a diary entry3. Write a poem or letter
We have added additional resources to help you. You can find these on the final pages. We have included a plan outline and a help sheet, which explains what you can include in each text type.

Perfect PictureDraw a picture and describe one of the superheroes doing an activity that you like
doing.

Questions to think about:1. Who is controlling the scissors?2. Why do you think the world is being
re-shaped?3. If you could change the world what
would you change?4. What would you keep the same?
Snip…Snip…Snip… The scissors began to tear the countryside apart. Towns, fields, rivers and oceans. Forests, valleys, mountains and lakes. The world began to unravel piece by piece, strand by strand. This was to be a new beginning. What would this new world look like?
MAIN TASK: Use the story starter above to write a setting description. Describe what the new world will look like.

Questions to think about:1. If you could go anywhere on holiday
where would it be?2. Who would you take with you?3. Which of the superheroes would you
most like to have on holiday with you?
4. What activities or sports do you think each of the characters would be good at?
5. Which of the characters would you most like to be? Why?
MAIN TASK:Everyone needs a holiday every now and then. Superheroes are no different.
Write a diary from the perspective of one of the characters. You could describe where you go on holiday and what activities you do.

Perfect PictureWrite Thank You in an artistic way.
You could write it in bubble writing, fancy writing, using different colours or using dots.
Give it to someone that you are thankful for or stick it in the window for people to see.
Sentence Challenge Can you describe the act of
kindness that resulted in someone writing this ‘thank you’ message?
Focus on describing the nouns you choose to use, including abstract nouns like feelings.
Questions to think about:1. Who has written the message?2. Why have they written the
message?3. Can you remember the last five
times you said ‘thank you’ to someone?
4. What did you say thank you for?5. What effect does being polite to
people have?
MAIN TASK:“Thank You” Two simple words, but such a powerful message.
Choose from the following tasks (or do both):Task 1: Write a letter to somebody to tell them thank you. Task 2: Write a poem for someone to tell them thank you.
