Science: The human body

This week our focus is: the impact of diet on the human bodyIt’s obvious, if you don’t look after a car and don’t put in the right petrol, it’s not going to work properly. What many people do not realise is that our body is the same and what it becomes depends on how we choose to treat it.

Last week we looked at the components of a good diet. TASK: Write down a food diary for this week. Have you eaten a healthy diet this week? How do you know?

Here are some examples of the science task from last week:

PSHE

This week’s focus: What am I looking forward to?It’s so important that we take time to focus on what we are grateful for, as well as what we look forward to. Like Carl and Eliie in the film ‘Up’, I have started making my own ‘Paradise Falls’ jar. This is things that I really want to do when lockdown is over.Task: What would you put in your ‘Paradise Falls’ jar?

Page 11: northcoteschool.com …  · Web viewWriting It was great to hear from some of you, ... Creative writing: Pobble 365 upload a new picture every day. Go on the link for one day this

You could even make and decorate one to put your ideas into – I’ve used an old candle jar for mine.

Task 2: What’s going on?Since 1945 the end of World War Two in Europe has been marked by Victory in Europe Day, better known as VE Day. On 8th May 1945, Prime Minister Winston Churchill made an announcement on the radio at 3pm that the war in Europe had come to an end, following Germany’s surrender the day before. This year, the 8th May 2020 will mark 75 years since the first VE Day! Until the current Covid-19 crisis struck, there had been plans to stage celebratory events and street parties in many places. Sadly, this has all had to be cancelled but many have chosen to celebrate virtually! Holding video parties, decorating our homes or baking to celebrate whilst we are all in lockdown! Can you write a diary entry from a person celebrating VE day? You may need to do some research to help you.

Religious Education

We have a chance to enter a competition that we can complete at home. I hope you had chance to sketch some of the art pieces last week.  This week we are going to look at some poems.  Look at these examples.  The first one is about Jesus on the cross.  Can you attempt to write your own poem  using these titles or create a poem of your own about God or Jesus?Stuart, age 11.

Hope In The Darkness

I walk to see my hero die,

As tears gather in our collective eyes.

Page 12: northcoteschool.com …  · Web viewWriting It was great to hear from some of you, ... Creative writing: Pobble 365 upload a new picture every day. Go on the link for one day this

A broken Jesus holding a cross,

All hope in me was lost.

Whipped and beaten in thunder and lightning

I felt like a thousand angels lost their wings

Weak and trembling he got tied by his wrists

As he screamed in pain in the dark mist

He turned his head to see a weak and blonde man

He was a murderer and when caught, ran.

He did crimes and didn’t care,

The punishment for this sinner was totally fair.

After that he turned to the right,

A guilty man full of fright.

Although his actions were sick and gross,

He was truly sorry and that’s what matters most.

Beside him two men. One evil one great,

They thought that forgiveness in them was way too late.

They were all going to their eternal rest,

Just then Jesus showed the hope in the darkness.

Jenny, age 10.

Where Is God?

“Where is God on this planet?

Making people frantic,

I don’t know his appearance,

So how am I meant to find him?

Muslims believe God can’t be drawn

But if I was God that would make me forlorn,

the Hindu God has four faces,

Who all care for different cases.

God is the guard of heaven,

God is the guard of hell,

He protects the living

And watches over the dead.

Lots of people think God is brave,

But if he is so courageous

Why is he cowering away?

I’ve looked in the Church

I’ve looked in the Mosque,

I’ve looked everywhere but now I am lost!

Not physically, but mentally.

Maybe God is lost as well.”
