    BMIC to get 102 acres

    T he government has decided to extend theNorth-South line of Metro rail project(Phase 1). On the northern side the railwayline will be extended (5.6 kms) up toHesaraghatta cross and on the southern sideup to Jaraganahalli (5.5 kms).

    Additional expense of the metro project isabout Rs 1,592 crore. In addition the cabinetordered to take up metro link from Electronic

    City to Whitefield in the Phase II.Home Minister V S Acharya said that cabi-

    net decided to bring in an amendment to theKarnataka Government Parks (Preservation)Act 1975 to let out necessary portion fromLalbagh and Indira Gandhi Musical Fountain(IGMF) park near High Grounds for BangaloreMetro Rail Corporation.

    As per the alignment of Metro rail work1,135 sq mts of land in Lalbagh along R VRoad is required to set up a metro station.Similarly a small portion in IGMF is required

    for the project.Once the amendment is passed BMRCwill acquire 20 feet width of Lalbagh area(from the west gate) towards the South EndCircle for setting up a station.

    The stretch of the area required for thestation has an eucalyptus grove and rockysurface.

    BANGALORE, DHNS: The stategovernment has given its as-sent to grant 102 acres of landto Bangalore Mysore Infra-structure Corridor project.Home minister V S Acharyasaid, the land is meant for fill-ing up gaps along the peripher-al ring road constructed as partof the BMIC project.

    The land to be given for Nan-di Infrastructure Corridor En-terprises is spread over severalvillages on Kanakapura Road,Mysore Road, Magadi Road andareas along BDA outer ringroad. The land to be handed

    over is part of the original planof the project, he added.

    NICE Managing DirectorAshok Kheny said We haveconstructed peripheral ringroad wherever we were allottedland. At certain points we couldnot link roads because of non-availability of land. What weare getting now is notified forthe project. For political rea-sons we could not get it early,but the present government hasagreed to allot the same.

    The government has termi-nated the Justice B C Patel com-mission set up during the previ-ous government to conduct aninquiry into allegations on al-lotment of excess land to NICE.Acharya said The issue is be-

    fore the Supreme Court andtherefore there is no necessityto continue with the Commis-sion. Besides Justice Patel him-

    self has asked the governmentto relieve him from the job as hehas some other responsibilityin New Delhi.

    Traffic Management

    The state cabinet sanctionedto release Rs 254 crore towardsTraffic Transit ManagementSystem in Bangalore city. Theproject worth Rs 3,000 crore hasbeen taken up under Jawahar-lal Nehru National Urban Re-newal Mission.

    The project cost will beshared by the State govern-ment, the Centre and the localbody. Acharya said that the cab-inet has approved first instal-ment of its share of Rs 254crore towards the project.

    BANGALORE: Chief Minis-ter B S Yeddyurappa onTuesday held a high-levelmeeting with officials fromthe infrastructure develop-ment department to reviewprogress of various air-port/airstrip projectsacross the State.

    Speaking to reportersafter the meet the ChiefMinister said his govern-ment would expedite workson the airports and smallairstrips as proposedacross the State.

Other issues dis-cussed at the meet includedexpansion plans at the Ben-galuru International Air-port (BIA) such as a secondrunway and constructionof an inter-state bus termi-nus near the trumpet inter-change flyover NH -7 to De-vanahalli, high-speed raillink to BIA, land acquisi-tion from the Hebbal fly-over to trumpet inter-change for the rail link.
