Run For your Junk By David Millard Photos by Bob Lindros The last junkyard run of the year for the LI Buick Club is now in the books. The run began at 5 am from two points at once. Team 1 started in Bohemia when Dennis and Theresa arrived at our house. Team 2 was when Marty arrived at Tony's house in Whitestone. The Plan: Team 2 heads to Harry's-U-Pull-It, some 20 minutes away from Team 1's destination at Englers Yard near Nuangola Pa. Both teams to reach their destination @ 8 to 8:30am with Team 2 to meet up with Team 1 at Englers at 10-10:30am. What a plan and it came off flawlessly. A footnote about the trip out would have to be that Jo Ann proudly took Joseph Jablonski's place as she managed to sleep thru most of New Jersey and 40 of the 50 miles of Pennsylvanna. Joseph I think she broke your record. This left Theresa to put up with 2 hours of 'guy' talk.

The Results: Knowing that the yard closes at noon we did not waste any time - 800 cars is alot to cover. Dennis helped me get alot of trim for a 62 Skylark and he got some parts for his '58. Several 68 full size Buicks did not yield any needed parts. Some Willys wagons gave up some small parts. Marty was able to get some unique parts from a Caddy for his Buick. Tony found a '65 Gran Sport that gave up alot of engine compartment parts plus a nice tail light lens set. Over all everyone was happy with their results. I have to give Theresa alot of credit for covering the

whole yard with us as the chief parts/tool keeper. Thank you Theresa. As it turned out the yard owner had to be somewhere at noon and allowed us to stay until 3 pm. He didn't have to ask us twice! A lengthy talk with the owner at 3 pm led to his telling us this yard will be gone in 3 to 5 years, a victim of the crusher. We did notice some vehicles were missing since our last run there last year. We settled up with the owner and the 6 of us headed for a restaurant for dinner. After dinner we headed home following each other till we hit the City. I might add, Jo Ann was awake for the whole time. There is a plan for a return trip in the spring...any interest? We do have to tell our meeting room neighbors, the Corviar Club of this yard as there were a good number of their cars waiting to be picked over. Do your know of another yard to put on our hit list? Keep ‘em Running... Frank Tedesco

Even with winter upon us, it's never too late to see the benefits starting your BUICK with warm engine oil, according to the Wolverine and Titan web sites. Both companies manu-facture oil pan heaters. Sized according to oil pan capacity. Most cars will use the version for oil pans containing 5-13 quarts, which costs about $65

To apply, the contact area must be cleaned and paint removed to reveal bare metal. The adhesive backed pad is applied to the bottom of the oil pan before a silicone bead is applied around it, before being plugged into a standard household outlet.

The Engine oil is warmed to near operating temperature to provide immediate lubrication, virtually eliminating engine temperature cold-start wear. The additional benefits include reduced water and acid accumulation in the oil supply and less strain on the starting system. Check them out at Wolverineheater.com and Titan heaters at pad-heaters.com to see complete specs and additional products.

the attack galvanized America and led, ultimately, to the two atomic bombs dropped on Nagasaki and Hiroshima in 1945. General Motors played an impressive part in the war. The Buick division was contracted to build the Pratt and Whitney engines for the B-24 Liberator Bomber and engines for use in the Douglas C-47 cargo and C-54 military transport planes. Buick built the M-18 Hellcat Tank Destroyers and manufactured 75mm gun shell cases both of which Buick also co-developed. Shown in these "war goods" advertisements. New cars that had been manufactured before production ceased, were stockpiled and rationed, sold to those who were able to show need.

There were 2,390 Americans killed in the devastating attack as Pearl Harbor was hit by hundreds of Japanese fighters, bombers and torpedo planes launched in two waves from aircraft carriers. Although tensions between Japan and the U.S. had increased and conflict was expected, most thought an attack would come in the Philippines rather than in Hawaii. The attack shocked the U.S. - who was following a policy of isolationism and staying out of the war - as Japan attempted to prevent the U.S. Pacific Fleet from interfering with its plans in Southeast Asia. The following day, December 8, the U.S. declared war on Japan after President Franklin D. Roosevelt declared the attack "a date which will live in infamy". Instead of deterring the U.S. from stopping Japan's plans to expand its empire,
