Board of Education Meeting Minutes March 12, 2018
The Board of Education met in regular session at 6:00 pm in Washington Conference Room. President Aldrich called the meeting to order. Present were Mr. Aldrich, Mr. Cooper, Mrs. Robertson, Mrs. Russel, Dr. Siebenaler Wilson, Treasurer Mr. Barnhart, Assistant Superintendent Mr. Roth, and Superintendent Mr. Kurt.
CELEBRATIONS
Ms. Stahl, Whittier Principal, introduced teacher Christina Qualls and two of her students who demonstrated how they use Google Classroom. Mr. Kurt introduced Ms. Karhoff and Ms. Mates who spoke about Applied Behavior Analysis. Ms. Mates stated that Findlay City Schools is far ahead of the rest of the state if not the nation in applied behavior analysis. She believes that districts will be looking at Findlay City Schools and seeking advice on how to implement this program in the schools. They have seen amazing results with students. She and Ms. Karhoff shared the data to show how well students are doing with this program. Alexander Jones from the State Auditor’s office presented the Auditor’s Award with Distinction to Findlay City Schools and the Treasurer, Mike Barnhart. Mr. Barnhart noted this is the 27 th year of clean audits and he thanked his predecessors, his staff and all of FCS employees.
PUBLIC PARTICIPATION
Angela Dittman, FEA Co-President stated how wonderful the Google Classrooms are and shared an example of how a student was able to join a Google Hangout and see what the class was doing while recovering from surgery. She also celebrated all the schools and staff that participated in the Children’s Mentoring Connection Bowling for Kids event. Mr. Kupferberg addressed the board and spoke about his upcoming run for the Ohio Senate. 2018-003-001 APPROVAL OF MINUTES It was motioned by Mrs. Robertson, seconded by Mrs. Russel to approve the Regular Meeting minutes from the February 12, 2018 meeting and the Special Meeting minutes from the February 15, 2018 special meeting. CORRESPONDENCE
Mr. Kurt shared the correspondence from Dr. Fell regarding the S.T.E.M. exhibits that will be at the Mazza Museum. N. FY18 Appropriations Amendment #2 The treasurer recommends approval of the FY18 Appropriations Amendment #2 as shown in EXHIBIT D.
O. Sales Complaints
The treasurer recommends approval to grant the treasurer authorization to instruct attorneys Rich & Gillis to file valuation complaints with the Hancock County Board of Revision based upon 2016 and 2017 property sales as recommended by the finance committee.
P. Summer School Brochure The superintendent recommends approval of the 2018 Summer School Brochure as shown in EXHIBIT E. Q. Pilot Food Pantry Program The superintendent recommends approval of the Pilot Food Pantry Program at Glenwood as shown in EXHIBIT F.

2018-003-003 OUT OF STATE TRAVEL
It was motioned by Mrs. Russel, seconded by Mrs. Robertson to approve the following out of state travel:
• Friday, April 27th – Tuesday, May 1st for We the People students and coaches/teachers to travel to Washington DC to participate in National Finals.
• Retro-Active: Friday, March 2nd for Alex Houck to travel to Detroit, Michigan to attend Auto-Rama • April 5th-April 10th: Craig Perry to travel to Rochester Hills, MI for recertification for Handling PRO and training in iRVision. • June 1st- June 10th for Superintendent Kurt, FHS Principal Mr. Imke and ESL teacher Mrs. Shank to travel to Kawaguchi City our
sister city and to build our school district relationship at an approximate cost of $7500 combined total for all 3 attendees.

REPORTS TO THE BOARD Mrs. Plesec gave a brief report to the Board on the 4 C’s; Collaboration, Creativity, Communication and Critical Thinking and how they were being used at Jefferson.
SUPERINTENDENTS COMMENTS
Mr. Kurt shared an email from Hope House employees commending a Bigelow Hill student who taught them how to properly shake hands. “The Big Shake” is a standing tradition at Bigelow Hill that teaches students the proper way to give a handshake. 2018-003-004 EXECUTIVE SESSION It was motioned by Mrs. Russel, seconded by Mrs. Robertson to go into Executive Session at 7:10 pm to discuss employment and compensation of personnel and upcoming negotiations with employee bargaining units. Findlay High School Teen Institute
Title: Teen Institute
Purpose: Through Teen Institute, students will develop the skills to make drug-free, healthy lifestyle choices, to become resilient and responsible adults, and to positively impact their school and community through service projects, events, and programs, working with like-minded organizations (LMO’s). Students will also become better equipped with the knowledge and abilities to make positive choices for themselves, as well as to encourage their peers to do the same. Teen Institute will promote substance free environments and activities in which all Findlay High School students may partake in. Organization: Executive Council:
● Teacher Advisor(s): Responsible for organizing and overseeing club meetings. Their purpose is to monitor the progress of the club.
● Secretary: ○ Record meeting minutes ○ Share announcements and updates ○ Responsible for attendance
● Treasurer: ○ Manages finances ○ Helps plan events
● Student Coordinator: ○ Help raise club awareness ○ Communicates with FHS staff and students ○ Responsible for keeping spirit of the group high
Teen Institute will elect other officers or committee as the need develops. Membership: Any FHS student who is interested in a substance-free lifestyle may be a member, provided they meet the FHS requirements for participation in extracurricular activities.

Grade Procedure/Attendance
Grade will be given to the student on the last day of class. A copy will be mailed home within five days of the end of
summer school. Grades will not be released if fees are unpaid. There are very STRICT attendance regulations for
middle and high school students in summer school. Students are only able to miss one day and work must be made
up. If a student misses more than one day it will result in a failure for the course and no credit will be issued.
Parents should not register their student if vacations, camps or other activities conflict with summer school dates.
No PE waiver or Educational Options will be granted for camps of any type.
Refund Policy
Refunds are only made through the end of the first week of classes. Summer School fees are not subject to standard
fee waivers.
