Board Minutes October 14, 1939

I The Board of Trustees of Bowling Green State University met in a regular

session in its office in the Administration Building at 2:00 o'clock p.m. on October 14, 1939. The members of the Board present were Dr. Edward B. Pedlow, president, Mr. E. E, Coriell, secretary, Mrs. Bessie S. Dwyer, treasurer, Mr. J. J. Urschel and Dr. II. J. Johnston. President F. J. Prout was also in attendance.

The President reported to the Board the results of the bids for equipment for the Women's Physical Education Building and Natatorium received at two o'clock p.m. October 13, 1939. The secretary read the following communication Irom Mr. John P. Schooley, State Architect and Engineer:

I recommend the above as being the lowest aid best bids received on the re- spective branches of the work.

It is impossible for us to accept a bid on Item 9, Contract for Group E - Gymnasium and Pool Equipment, Item 19, Contract for Group L - Landscaping, as all of the bids ran over the estimated cost. It was also impossible to let Item 12, Con- tract for "Group G" - Venetian Blinds and Cloth Shades - as no bids were received for this item. It will be necessary to readvertise for all of the above items.

I leave to the discretion of the Board of Trustees the acceptance of Item 16 Alternate B - Painting Structural Steel and Roof Sheathing Exposed in Gymnasium Ceilings of Women's Physical Education Building or Item 18, Alternate "C" - Acoustic Treatment to Ceilings of Main Gymnasium and Auxiliary Gymnasium. Clint West who was recommended Items 15 and 17 is low bidder on both of the above alternates. His bid for Item 16 is $650.00 and his bid for Item 18 is $2,860.00.

If the above Rcommendations meet with your approval, kindly request the Director of Public Works to enter into contract with the sbove mentioned contractors in the named amounts. In addition, kindly issue certificates of availability of funds to cover the above in the stated amounts.

Mr. Coriell moved that the State Architect and Engineer be directed to prepare plans and specifications for readvetisinp the following: Item 9 ~ Contract for Group E, Gymnasium and Pool Equipment; Item 12 - Contract for Group G, Venetian Blinds and Cloth Shades; and Item 19 - Contract for Group L, Landscaping. It was seconded by Mrs. Dwyer. Voting yes: Pedlow, Coriell, Mrs. Dwyer, Urschel and Johnston. Motion carried.

It was moved by Mr. Urschel and seconded by Mrs. Dwyer that the following resolution be adopted and that President Prout be authorized to ign all federal and state papers in connection therewith:

WHEREAS, the Board of-Trustees of Bowline Green State University (hereinafter referred to as "Owner") and Steger Showcl Company (hereinafter referred to as "Contractor") have entered into a contract for the performance of certain work in connection with the construction of acollegc men's dormitory, Docket 0H-2D93~F, project of the Owner;

WHERI it is provided in the said contract that, in the event the said work is not completed by the second day of September, the said contractor shall pay to the Owner as liquidated damapes an amount computed on the basis of $50.00 for each day the said work remains uncompleted after the aforesaid date; and

WHEREAS, for the reasons hereinafter enumerated, it has become impossible for the Contractor to perform the said contract vithin the contractual date for completion; viz. (see letter of Contractor to State Architect and Engineer)

WHEREAS, it appears the said Contractor is not legally responsible for such delay in the completion of said contract and accordingly, liquidated damages should not be asessed;

Board Minutes December 1, 1939

The Board of Trustees of Bowling Green State University met in a regixlar session in its office in the Administration Building at 2:00 o'clock p.m. on December 1, 1939. The members of the Board present were Mrs, Bessie S. Dwyer, treasurer, Mr. J. J. Urschel and Dr. II. J. Johnston. Dr. Edward 13. Pedlow, president, and Mr. E. E, Coriell, secretary, were unavoidably absent. President F, J. Prout was also in attendance.

By unanimous consent Mr. Urschel acted as president pro-tem and Dr. Johnston acted as secretary pro-tem.

The minutes of tie meetings held September 15, September 27 and October 14-, 1939 were read aid approved.

It was moved by Dr. Johnston and seconded by Mrs. Dwyer feat the preliminary plans for the Infirmary building which is to be erected through participation with WPA be approved as a WPA project. Voting yes: Urschel, Mrs. Dwyer and Dr. Johnston. Motion carried.

It was moved by Mrs. Dwyer and seconded by Dr. Johnston that the sponsor's portion of the funds for the building of the Infirmary be appropriated from Rotary-A, Health, which at the present time totals approximately $9,000.00. Voting yes: Urschel, Mrs. Dwyer and Dr. Johnston. Motion carried.

It was moved by Dr. Johnston and seconded by Mrs. Dwyer that the following appointments of President Prout be confirmed at fee salary set opposite the name of each:
