50th Year Reunion

The Reunion Committee is pleased to welcome Classmates and Teachers to the 50th Reunion of the Camden High School, Class of 1955.

We sincerely hope you enjoy the afternoon.

In this booklet are listed the names of the committee members, and a complete roster of classmates with address or status, if known.

We apologize for any omissions or inaccurate data presented or listed in this booklet. Let us assure you, it was unintentional. We believe that we have exercised due diligence in our attempts to maintain records which are consistent, both in accuracy and in timeliness.

We trust you will also enjoy reading the poem and vignettes. They were, as the poem states, extracted from your submitted data. If you wrote a lot, we wrote a lot. If you wrote a little, we wrote maybe a little bit more. Some submissions desperately needed the editor's brevity option, where deemed appropriate. A few tidbits of info were often added in our feeble attempts to enlighten the tale.

In covering my "tale", I think I'll end this now with a simple "Thanks" so you can go to "Remember Me".

Remember Me

From the formsFilled with the things you wrote,I put together vignettes of quote.

I titled the pages “Remember Me”Later still, was added “Potpourri”.

I tried to stay close to everything you’ve saidUsing the editor’s option,So you don’t shake your head.

I hope you enjoy the occasional added wit,After all, you are the basis for creating it.

And if per chance I missed your story,Wait till next time; we’ll go for the glory!

For I’m neither writer nor poet, as every one knows,But rather a wretched old fool when it comes to my

prose.

As you read just show a smile,So I’ll know what’s been written was worth our while.

When I started this gathering of friends, I wondered, How many?

I thought a few, hardly any.

T'was to be a meeting at Giuseppe's, a classmate or two,

A few good men with nothing to do.

But oh my goodness, the numbers grew,Not by one, not by two, but many, much more than a

few.

Page 37 May 7th, 2006

Quite a large number, a very lot,Before I knew it, I needed a bigger spot.

Telephoned Robert to lend a hand,He answered the call, bringing the band.

They had several meetings as we now know,And through their efforts, our Reunion's a go.

Who could have guessed we’d meet here today,We thought just a hug, a handshake, then go on our

way.

All shapes and sizes these classmates this day,They have so little time, with so much to say.

Last I saw him; he was straight and tall,Now's he's bent over and he's about to fall. Last I saw her; she had curves in right placesThey're still there, and we've all got red faces.

The gals get better I've always been told,Seems they get younger as the guys get old.

I’ve tried awful hard to end this typing,But out it comes, needing no hyping.

I could go on like this; it seems as if forever,But it’s time to close, thus ending this dreadful endeavor.

For I too, have places to go and family to seeAnd hope that they “Remember Me…”

Remember Me Potpourri

Our “mechanical man" Raymond Alaburda, received his BSE in ME from Drexel. An early retiree after 30 years at DuPont, Ray, along with wife of 47 years, Anna Marie (CHS’56), and son Jeff are now the “…owner, manager, and landlord of our apartment complexes.” Their daughter, Jill, lives in CA. The Alaburda’s have 2 children, and 6 grandchildren. Ray enjoys fishing and boating with the family in Brigantine, NJ. Ray would like to be remembered for, “Helping …his family succeed in life.”

After a long, lengthy and mind-bending search across the Internet, we found Kay Albert Sherman almost next door. Right here in the Garden State. “Happy when performing” is how she’d like us to remember her. Kay and husband Paul have been married 50 years. The Sherman’s have “one son, an attorney”, and are “retired but still kicking and still singing.” Glad we found you Kay- because I need an autograph for this clipping I’ve been carrying for 45 years!

The warm and friendly Nellie R. Amos Davis checks in from warm and sunny AZ to tell us that she is, “Enjoying retirement” there “with her daughters.” Nellie, we all remember without asking, married her high school sweetheart and classmate, Gerald Davis, who passed away in Jul 1999. The Davis’ have “5 children, 8 grand’s, and 4 great-grand’s”. Gerald, of warm smile and the friendliest guy one could have known, was an exceptional multi-sport athlete at Hatch Jr. High and CHS. Glad you made it here Nellie!

That big soft smile, wearing a gentleman and coming your way must belong to Thomas Anderson Jr. Always, it was there, even back at CHS, and remains his trademark to this day. Paving the way for the smile are Tom’s wife Ruth, a retired Philly School District Principal, his son Sean, a Film Actor, and granddaughter Diani (age 7). Tom, recently retired Associate V. P., Community Relations, at Temple University, is known in the Philadelphia area as "Mr. Temple". Tom's list of achievements in the community includes his office's organizing and developing "…the first Community Development Plan in the history of Temple University, leveraging a $200K donation to Temple into more than $1M to benefit the North Philadelphia Community, as well as the construction of a $25M Student Resident Hall." Tom has served as an Educational Specialist for the Philadelphia School District, and has taught in Philadelphia Elementary and Junior High Schools." Tom also "worked with the Philadelphia Crime Prevention Association, the Carver Science Fair, and other human service agencies." No need for an umbrella when Tom's around on a rainy afternoon, is there?

A nice note from Richard Babush, (BS, magna, Youngstown University, JD, highest honors, Emory University) who tells us “I have a conflict- “Sorry- Will not be able to attend. A founding partner of Babush, Neiman, Kornman & Johnson, CPA’s and Consultants, he heads up the tax department, focusing on estate planning and trusts, to name a few. Dick is an active and recognized leader in the Atlanta area, serving on numerous local and state boards, and community associations. Also an “avid golfer”, Dick has “participated in many tournaments.” We bet we know where you go to resolve “conflicts”, don’t we? “Hey Dick, how could you miss this one? We were counting on you to help us with our estate planning at the Reunion!

Page 40 May 7th, 2006

As soon as you see Beatrice E. Baker, you tell her to tell us just what it was that she was going to tell us! Beatrice, just what is it you have?

Jerry Balzano reports in that, “I have (2) daughters and (1) granddaughter with one more on the way.” That’s OK Mrs. B; we know you have the same also!

She writes only that we remember, "I gave it my all" and has she! So short a message from a woman so long on talent. Jacqui Bardner Smith is quiet about "it" but we can tell all here. We found all about “it” when we started our search for you folks, and now you can share in our discovery too. Just click on: www.dreamscopeart.com to see "it"! Non-clickers must run, not walk to the nearest local library and check out a PC. What no library card? Just go…

Now retired, Lawrence Barth operated, and then sold his cash register and computer business after 28 years. Larry and wife, married 44 years, have 3 grandchildren. His favorite activities are golf and walking.

Was that really Charles Clement Bell Jr.? He wrote for us to remember him as, "The graduate who changed the most, or who looks most different." Well hidden in nearby PA, "Charlie" and his wife of 45 years, Elizabeth, have 2 children, "Son, daughter, & (1) grandchild." A Philadelphia Police Detective, he has "traveled to (30) of the (50) states". We think he likes Hawaii (5-0?) best as he's returned there "(23) times since 1974." He has an "Associates Degree in Technology from Temple University and has attended Fels Institute at the University of Pennsylvania." We "suspect" Charlie's interest in Hawaii is easily surpassed by his "Raising my grandson, who is a goalkeeper for "Life Skills through Soccer-Madrid", a soccer team in Princeton, NJ.

"Seymour Berlin is a former owner of 3 beauty parlors. He was married 42 years, wife passed away in 2003. 3 children, 4 grandchildren, he is now retired and living a leisure filled life in FL. “Sy” asks only to remember him as', “A Good Guy”- and we certainly do!

Agnes Blicharski Zaine wrote to tell us that she was, "Sorry" and was "Unable to attend." All together now: “Hi Agnes!” "See you at the next Reunion!"

Ford retiree John H. Block (B.S. Rutgers, UC Camden) says, “We can rest easy tonight thanks to the contributions of their children.” With 5 (2 g, 3 b) children and 4 (make that 5 if you count a son-in-law) in the military (Army, Navy, Marines) at the same time, John and his wife of 45 and counting years, Betty McIlvaine (WWHS’60) managed to see many military posts and their 8 grandchildren around the world. According to John, “the Block’s ship is always steered in the right direction by “Fleet Admiral” Betty who keeps the convoy on course.” As you might suspect, the $$$$$ minded John (see P&G Yearbook) managed to avoid the “troop’s” higher education costs we all experience through “their (3) attendance at the West Point and Annapolis military academies.” Be sure to ask the “button-busting” proud parents about their children’s achievements, including the “one that got away” and “friends in high places.” John reminds us all that “The next time you head south, leave the traffic on hectic I-95 and take the more enjoyable and scenic coastal route instead.” “Y'all just steer your Ford over toward the Albemarle Sound of NC” says John, and visit the Block’s to find out if the Swamp is really “Dismal” as it is named! A 3 time USMC marathoner, John says we can remember him best as “A late bloomer, as a guy, who today, can still hit a “trey” (a 3 pt. shot, B'Ballers pls. take note) from the top of the key.” And finally as one who is, “Once a Marine, always a Marine.” Semper Fi, John!

“Life has been good” our Leonard Boreski tells us, “In part, because of many wonderful friends, including my CHS classmates”. Lenny wishes all “…much happiness and good health in the coming years.” We wish the very same to you Len.

Let’s all go ask Robert Brader to tell us a story and write about it here.

From sunny CA, retired Navy Chief Fithian F. Breyer writes to tell us, "I regret I am not able to attend." Family duties require "Fith" to remain at home on the West coast. He "enlisted in the USN July 1955, did basic at Bainbridge, MD, and then went on to Electrical School at Great Lakes, IL. "Fith" returned to Camden in 1959 after discharge. Bored after a one-year stint with Curtis Publishing, he re-enlisted. Boredom faded quickly we suspect, with assignments aboard "a heavy cruiser at Norfolk, VA, an oil tanker and a repair ship at Newport, RI, and minesweepers at Charleston, SC where he met and married his wife Joyce, a native of NC." Subsequent transfer "to headquarters of Mine Forces Pacific Fleet at Long Beach, CA included a few trips to Vietnam." Prior to retiring from the service in 1977, he "taught electrical theory at Naval Training Center San Diego". Always close to the Navy after the "retirement", he "worked at National Steel Shipbuilding" and later retired from the Navy Public Works Center San Diego. The Breyer's have 4 children (2 b, 2 g), 6 grandchildren (4 g, 2 b), and 3 great grandchildren, all girls. Sorry you could not make it here "Fith". We wanted to “pipe you aboard”, then hear how you "swept" Joyce off her feet in Charleston!

Lois Brown Schaffer is presently retired, living 6 months in warm West Palm Beach, FL the other 6 up in the cold, cold North of NY. The Schaeffer’s have 5 “adorable and bright” grandchildren, ages 5, 6 (twins), 8 and 10. Remember Lois, “as someone who truly cares about people, particularly those in need and as a positive ‘doer’ who makes things happen. “Most importantly”, remember her “as a loving wife, mother and grandmother who knows how to have fun.” You made our CHS days fun too, Lois.

“Only as Gloria Byrd and that I was a graduate of ‘55” is how we can remember her. Ms. Gloria also managed to tell us that she likes crocheting, all types of sports, and church. Let’s go sit by Gloria and ask her a few questions…

We were hoping she’d join our parade today but Patricia Campbell Cafiero wrote, “Am Unable to Attend”. Remember her “As a good person!” This year the Cafiero’s “will celebrate our Fiftieth Anniversary by vacationing with our children and my Dad!” “We are blessed with a wonderful family” says Pat, “three sons, two daughters-in-law, three granddaughters and three grandsons.” Happy 50th, Pat!

Carole Candera Messersmith, and husband Jim have 2 children (Amy, Jon), and 3 grandchildren (Abigail, Joshua, and Jeremiah). Carole finds teaching to be “wonderful, and has continually led her in new and challenging directions”. Teaching has given her “the opportunity to study early literacy learning in New Zealand”. Though “retired” from East Windsor Regional School District in 2000, a busy Carol continues teaching junior level elementary education majors at Rider University. Carole believes that “always present and important have been opportunities to touch the lives of older people – a group of which I am fast becoming a member.” You've touched us too Carole.

Here’s a spot, that’s all we got from Gabe Carbone. Gabe’s “Sorry” and we are too that he couldn’t make it. Good luck, Gabe!

A “tough question!” writes Margaret Carbone Mancuso when responding to "Remembered". Other things are maybe not so tough though because with added emphasis, "Marge" tells us she is, “Retired and enjoying life!!” She "has a daughter and one grandson. “Divorced after 36 years of marriage- “But”, she notes to us with an unseen smile, “My ex remains my buddy and dancing partner” and that “Life is good”. "Marge" is also an “Unable to Attendee”, and we wish she were here so we could check out her dance book!

Committee member Patricia Chew Friedrichs wants all to know that, “My 4 Children and 4 Grandchildren are my greatest joy in my life”. Statuesque, and working girl, Pat has, “been a realtor with Prudential Fox and Roach for 22 years and I love what I do with no thoughts of retirement. “I plan to live forever!!” We really do like your plan, Pat. Mind if we join you in the foyer?

Remember Gloria Clark Campbell as a, “Loving wife, mother and grandmother, a caring friend” and someone with a “Good sense of humor”. Certainly fits our Gloria.

That beaming gentleman here today is Grover Collier, “The proud father of three great sons, Mark, and twins Burt, and Brian, and three promising grandchildren, ages 16, 11, and 8.” Be sure to ask Grover about his golf game too! On second thought- maybe we shouldn't!

We will remember Gloria Colton Machler, “As a Child of God” because that’s all she wrote!

Page 45 May 7th, 2006

“Why not?” asks an inquisitive James Connors. We should remember him as, “A guy who really enjoyed high school”. It had to be those “Great school mates, terrific campus”, wasn’t it, Jim? Or was it all those “Pretty girls”? Continuing, Jim says for him it was “The best time of life- No worry’s- Lots of fun.” “Where did all the time go?” asks our handsome Jim. No question here though- for my friend and yours, Jim wishes a “Healthy, Happy Life to All!

I’m going to ask Dolores Conte Pepperess to tell me more right here!

All the way from KC, MO, flying and driving, that's how Margaret Corbett Lavenberg got here today and we are glad she did! We can remember her she writes, "As a person who loved" life and people. "Marge" has "5 children and 12 grand children." She is "retired from Hospice Nursing, which I truly loved doing." When not caring for others, our "Marge" likes "to travel and dance." Did I say that?

This is where we ask Ronald Council to tell us his recipe for “BoomerPie” without our having to go to [email protected] to find out.

It’s never quiet whenever William Creato is around so we won’t have to ask “Bill” to tell us a funny story in order to remember him, “As someone who likes to make people laugh!” Bill and wife Florence have “3 sons, 4 grandchildren.” All quiet, of course! Be sure to ask Mr. Colangelo, “Who was the chief troublemaker in his classes at CHS?”

Our “H & R” is, yes, presently a tax examiner for the NJ Department of Labor. Lt. Harry R. Curran retired in 1992 after 27 years with the NJ State Police. Harry earned his Accounting B.S. and Psychology B.A. after attending Rutgers for what he states was an “eternity of evenings.” Harry and Janet, his wife of 39 years, have 3 children and 2 grandchildren, all residing in NJ, and they are reasons enough to keep him in NJ in spite of taxes that “suck!” It must be time for a “Tea Party”. Right, Harry?

You gotta love straight talking, right from the heart and everyone's kind of man, Ernest Darpino. Take a deep breath here before continuing, then remember Ernie as, “Son, husband, father, grandfather of 6, student, citizen soldier, still working, reaching upward, remembering roots, thinking big, appreciating all, meeting new, holding friends, a believer in the good in people and still looking to do what is right. “ Exhale, Ernie. You earned it! As you were- People!

Annette DeMarinis Dickel and husband Paul have 2 sons and just “love to travel”, especially to their “condo on Sanibel.”

It's eye check time. No, we are not seeing double. Yes, that really is Helen DeMarinis, the other half of our almost inseparable set of twins. A very lucky Helen has a “love of travel” and “good times with her “friends” who have a condo on Sanibel!” Take us too!

Summers, we can find Robert DeNinno down at the shore in OCNJ. Still working as a liquor salesman, he enjoys golf and the casino (which one, Bobby D?). The DeNinno's have 3 boys (I married), a grandchild and another on the way.

Here’s a short message from Jay Dezenhall to remember him as a, “Class Act”. Well worth repeating for classy guy, Jay.

We go all the way back to first grade, so surely we can remember Anthony "Tony" DiBartolomeo as, "With Ginnie Weyman.” Done!

There's always a Doctor in the house and she’s ready for any emergency, but its “Home and family first” for Margaret DiBiaso Angelastro. “Life has been home, family and education”, “Peggy” continues. She “began her career in nursing in 1980”, and is “presently a Family Nurse Practitioner" in various professional settings. A graduate of Penn and Widener Universities with double Masters in Nursing, a widow of 16 years, "Peggy" has “two sons, both Emergency Room Physicians. “Son David Angelastro, M.D., Director of Emergency Medicine at Shore Memorial Hospital, Somers Point, NJ and Nicholas Angelastro, D.O., Emergency Medicine, Sarasota Memorial Hospital, Sarasota, FL, in a practice of 14 physicians. “David has two children, Justin and Lauren. “Nick has one son, Andre.” A Master Gardener from the Rutgers Extension of Camden County, Peggy finds “reading and continued education at both conferences and NP dinners” helpful “as I keep the world healthy.” When not “learning or teaching, I have fun raising Bengal kittens” she concludes. Hold that Tiger by the tail, Peg- We bet one is named “Tawny” too!

World travelers, Carol Dickerson Hall, and husband Alphonso (ret. USAF, 26 yrs.), have 2 children, and 2 grandchildren. What better hobby for life after retirement than being a "travel agent"? Right, Carol? Right, Alphonso? All right!

A great story is one that has an even greater ending and do we have one for you. "We have 5 married children" writes Lenora DiCrescenzo Brendlinger. The Brendlinger’s have "12 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren" and "have traveled all over". Lenora and husband Fred are "Happy to stay at home now." Here now also, is the rest of the story- for Lenora writes, "My youngest daughter gave her kidney to Fred in 2001. "Something we are very thankful for." Now that’s a story worth sharing and “Thanks” too, Lenora, for sharing your story with us!

Won't Joseph T. DiVello be surprised to see the entire Class of 1955 visit his Medford, NJ Deli-Market to "stop in for some great food?" After CHS, Joe joined the Army, and then obtained his "BA from Rutgers." "Happily married to my high school sweetheart, Jean Candelori (CHS'56) for 48 years" he writes. "We raised 5 great sons, 2 of which are twins and 9 beautiful grandchildren (6g 3b). "After spending 25 years in the corporate world, I opened several family food retail businesses and…to stop…” This gets us back to Joe's surprise in our opening line above. Leave it to Joe to invite us for more food immediately after a big buffet!

Jim Dowd, the Sr., is retired. He has 2 children, son Jim Jr. and daughter Zoe, and four grandchildren, Jennifer, Jessica, Nickolas, and Morgan. Just as we remember you Jim- straight man, straight talk, and right to the point of things.

Remember Gaynelle Downs-Walker-Jones as, “Gay and/or Nana; a caring person to those in need”. Gay “retired from the US Customs Service after 27 years as a Paralegal Specialist.” Her family includes son “Kevin Walker and grandson Kuweske Walker, attending VA Union, a daughter Patricia Walker King, and granddaughters Danielle King, a sophomore at University of Miami, and Christen King, a 7th grader at Doctor’s Charter School, Miami, Gifted Program.” Son Martin Walker and grandsons, “Keldrick Walker, (2004, B.A., Edinboro University), Kendrick Walker, (2005 Booker T. Washington H.S.), Quintin Walker, an 8th grader at Doctor’s Charter, and Justin Walker, a 3rd grader at Liberty Charter School, Miami, Gifted Program”, round out this long Gay line!

She’s “had a busy, good life” reports our fellow committee member, Janet Ellis Cherry. “Career, marriage, children (2 girls), and the most fun is my 3 yr. old granddaughter!” Bet that little one knows how to keep you busy, Janet!

Loretta Elzie Pace says we can remember her as a “Daughter, Wife, Mother, and Grandmother: I had it all!!” Our Loretta certainly sets too fast a pace for husband Odell Pace (CHS’55) to keep up! Odell, where are you?

We looked high we looked low. We looked too far. We even went to the Mayor. All the time Barbara Errichetti was right in our backyard. If only instead we had followed the glow of the ever-present smile, we would have found her sooner. From Voorhees, “Smiley” writes. “I have 3 children (2b, 1 g).” She “worked a long time in the Medical Profession” with over 20 years at Thomas Jefferson Hospital, and “retired in 2000 after a battle with cancer and a stroke.” We’re glad we found you, “Smiley”!

Next time Barbara Esworthy Oler can travel, she’ll be here, but she’s "Sorry" as she is "Unable to this time." Barbara reports in from beautiful New Bern, NC that she has “2 sons- 1 is a fireman in FL and the other is police officer in NJ.” And also she has “4 grandchildren." She likes to “do crafts.” We are thinking of you Barbara!

Attention everyone! Reporting in as ordered from down in Fayetteville, NC, the “Home of the 82nd Airborne” is the one and only, Lt. Col. Donald L. Ferebee, USA, ret. Also a retired police officer and child support enforcement investigator, this service- minded “Don” presently “works with 16-18 year old high school dropouts in a second chance program called ‘Tarheel Challenge’.” And we are thankful for your service too, Don. Ok now- A big “Hooah!” for “Don” and the 82nd. As you were, People!

Walter Fiddler would like us to remember, "That I had an excellent scientific career and that I was a good husband and father". We will “Walt.” We would also like to ask you about the origin of "jbhagar"!

Holy Toledo! We do get letters. From Ohio, our girl Loretta Fillman writes she is, “Still Happy Being Me!” and that she is “Sorry but unable to attend.” Gosh Loretta, we’re sorry you're sorry too, but we're happy you're still happy. Happy enough for us to be slaphappy!

Remember Barbara Fisler Crispin as, "Roy Crispin's Wife", and that's good enough for us too. Barbara tells us her hobbies are "Flowers, Scrapbooks, Old Cars and caring for dogs, cats and trees."

From a dedicated and fine educator, we can remember Norman Fruchter, "As someone who helped build several enduring institutions that improved cavity of opportunity". Thanks, Norm, it’s a big hole and somebody’s got to fill it, and we can think of no other to better handle the task.

Annette Gallo Robinson and husband Jim would agree with us that May 7th is a great day for weddings and reunions. Be sure to wish the Robinson’s a “Happy Anniversary” 46 times today! Working girl Annette and the retired (lucky) Jim have been “blessed with 3 children and 8 grandchildren…” and all enjoy the summer sun, surf and sand in Wildwood. Here is mine: "Happy Anniversary, Annette and Jim!"

Hey Joe, this spot’s for you- Joseph Gehring! Glad you made it here too!

That chap over there now breathing easy and taking a well earned bow is Robert J. Godshalk. Happily married to Jean for 46 years, the Godshalk’s have two sons, Robert and Brian. Since CHS days, Bob has held various positions as “Electronics Technician, Salesman, Sales Manager, and VP of Sales for several wire companies. During his 17 year membership in the Somerdale Father and Son Association, a sporting association for boys and girls ages 5-17, our ever active and community-minded Bob served in numerous positions, including a tour as its President. A soon-to-be retired Reunion Co-Chair, the “Voice of the 50th” wore out several phones, operators (and John) talking to and locating all of you. In a more serious tone, Bob sincerely wants all to know that he “Enjoyed talking to the classmates and learning how successful they were in their vocations and raising their families.” It shouldn’t be hard to follow Bob’s instructions to “Remember the good times and the great group of students at Camden High.” WELL DONE, Bob!

For Lynne Goodman Terris it’s simply to be remembered, “As young as I was in High School”. It goes with out saying- Lynne because we will! How young are you?

We found Nancy Gordon Banta via an e-mail exchange to NM. In obvious pain, Nancy writes from Gretna, VA that she’s, “Sorry I can’t come due to illness”. Due to, “A bad back” she tells us. Ouch, Nancy, we feel your pain! Please come back the next time!

Walter Grexa says to remember him, “For my hotrods.” This “Bud” reports to you that he is “Married to Grace for 47 years”. They have “3 children, 5 grandchildren.” A “Business owner for 20 years", he says they do “Lot’s of travel, spend summer in Avalon, boating and fishing, enjoying retirement!” Sure sounds good enough for us, "Bud".

Bet you that “mother to 5”, June Griffee Rice, really enjoys her 12 Grandchildren, and the 2 great grandchildren too. Please tell us June, Are they “Cheaper by the Dozen”?

Let’s all ask Robert Griscom about the snow in Maine vs. the sand in Key West! Good to see you Bob!

We now know that Charles A. Guidotti can be remembered, “For being kidded about my belief that space travel would one day occur”. “I was right”, he notes. “Charlie” and Lynne, his “wonderful wife of 37 years”, “have a 5 yr. old granddaughter who is smarter than me.” Now in Haddon Heights, he retired from the Camden police force after 27 years. He is a collector of die cast models and builds flying planes. Destination Moon, Charlie? Now that’s a long way from Mulford and Fetters, isn’t it?

It took us a while to find Franklin D. Hall too. Now in Philly, he’s here, he’s tall, and this is all he wrote!

“Enjoy working in the church”, writes our Lucille Hall from her home in Camden. “I have 2 children and 2 GRANDCHILDRENI” she proclaims loudly and proudly. And with enjoyment, we bet, Lucille.

George Hamburger you may recall was never the one at a loss for words. Well then, when we combine his old devil smile with his words reminding us to remember that he “Hung out with Pauline Hoing”, we just know he hasn’t lost it!. Now didn’t we all wish that, George? Please tell us more…

In contrast to the “FOH” (Friend of Hoing), mentioned earlier, here’s a small space for us to say “Hi” to the “Quiet Man”, Donald Harrison. When he says something, everybody listen and be sure to write it down here. Everyone: All together now. “Hi, Arch!”

Need a Handyman? Look no further! You’ll probably find Raymond Hart (BS, LaSalle) somewhere in the Electrical Dept. at a Home Depot. Want to build a mission critical power complex to launch spacecraft? "Ray" is definitely the man. Not enough “space” here to list his numerous achievements, but you can be sure if it dealt with “power” at NASA, our "Ray’s" been there, done that! Back on the ground, "Ray" would be best remembered as “father, grandfather, husband, friend, good neighbor, kid’s sports coach, handyman, electrical power engineer, and world traveler/explorer”. The Hart’s have 4 grandsons, 1 granddaughter. Grandson Hunter (age 9) already has his first hat trick! No doubt a "power play" goal was in there too!

Allen J. Hermann, M.D. writes for us to remember him "As the Camden High School student who continues to pursue the cure for the common cold with the pharmaceutical agent, Miriamycin." And we will, Allen. Attendance at a wedding will cause Allen and wife Nancy to arrive "about 5:30 P.M." and "See all you Castle on the Hillers." Let’s give the Hermann’s a big “HI!” when they come in the door.

Heading south? You can find Elsa Hewel at her home in lovely Boca Raton, FL, because she told us she was “Unable to attend.” Next time tell us more Elsa!

“3 children, happily married 41 years” writes a neat-handed Phillip R. Hollander, M.D. Phil’s” everyday prescription for the good life is to “enjoy gardening, gadgets, computers, cameras, men’s toys, and dancing, good friends”. Excellent remedy from the good Dr. Phil who would, “Like to think I have been a good Doctor”.

We will remember Carole Holm-Kender, “As an inspiration to my family: A loving mother, wife, and daughter” and as, “A partner with my husband in his successful career in academia.” Carole and Walt “married in 1957, 2 children David 46, and Lily 21”. (Yes, Carole was a so very youthful 48 at the birth of Lily)! The Holm-Kender’s “have lived in Maine, New Jersey, Upstate New York, The Netherlands, and Florida.” A “cancer survivor”, Carole’s hobbies include “entertaining, gardening, and foreign travel.” Wow! What a woman. Congratulations are definitely in order here- People!

“Bubbles” was hiding, but we found him and here’s his spot. Sure is easy to remember Ivin H. Holmes as, “A nice guy”. Welcome aboard “Bubbles”!

Working man James Hughes tells us he has, “Been married for 36 years to my wife, Marcy. Have two daughters, Susan and Debbie.” The Hughes’, “have 4 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.” Jim “worked for Eastern Air Lines for 25 years” and “now has been working at Cherry Hill Toyota for 16 years.” We think it's about time to think Ford, Jim.

Remember Arden E. Butler Jackson as, “A very kindhearted person” and that “I always liked to help people”. Arden is still “teaching at Bonsall School”. She “had 5 children, 6 grandchildren and 15 great grands”. Now that’s right nice, Arden! Please tell me about my Dad's wooden shoes!

We found her in Little Rock. Surprised her we think. Anita Jeffries Norman tells us that she’s a “widow, 2 children” and has “grandchildren: 5 living; 1 deceased.” Anita, former “Administrative Assistant to Federal Judge until his demise” presently works as a “Paralegal for Stephen Bennett, Esq., for 22 years.” Her hobbies include: “Counted Cross Stitch; Baking and decorating wedding, and other specialty cakes; reading; collecting salt and pepper shakers.” This busy girl is “active in my church; Member of American Business Women Association and am currently president of my local Chapter (Acropolis) in North Little Rock; attending National and District Conferences for ABWA”. Be sure to have fun on this trip too Anita!

Could that smiling lady we saw peeking out from under her Red Hat while celebrating life, be none other than Dolores A. Jemmerino Ferris? You bet it was! A step-mother, step-grandmother and step-great-grandmother who with her second husband live in a seaside community, says she is “most proud of my beautiful daughter.” Also be sure to look out for the 3 alligators and a beaver should you chance to visit the Ferris’ in Pawley’s Island, SC.

That streak you saw go by was Leon J. Johnson. “Lee” retired after 27 years as a Camden City Fireman on July 1, 1995. An “avid jogger” participating “in many long distance races including the Boston Marathon” five times, “and finishing” he notes, deservedly so. Lee spent two years on active duty in the U.S. Army. Lee also is “involved in my Catholic Church where I am an Extraordinary Minister of the Holy Eucharist and Lector, and a member of the Knights of Columbus.” Hey Lee, when you get a chance, tell us about “Heartbreak Hill”. Congratulations and think DC for the next one!

We could have used Barbara Jones Mayock when we first organized the search for classmates. Too long a union girl and a former V.P. on the Executive Board; Barbara says in her note from Mt. Laurel, “I’m refocused now after 32 years working for UFCW, Local 1360.” Her last position “was as a union rep.” Today, Barbara works part-time for “CAP”, a Child Assault Protection program. In addition to the union board, a busy Barb has served on several other boards including, United Way, WAR (Women Against Rape), and HOPE (Helping Other People Evolve). Selected to be the 1969-70 Miss United Way, she was also a volunteer and trainer for Contact. With “3 wonderful children, 6 wonderful grandchildren and a grand cat, we know where she is now focused!

From Camden Valeria B. Jones Thomas writes, “Widowed after 35 years of marriage”. She “Retired from the Camden Board of Education” and has, “Four adult children, grandmother of 14, and great of 11. “The two youngest grandchildren I have enjoyed since my retirement” she continues. Filled with a “Love of Knowledge”, Val is a Practical Nurse, (Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital), and was one of the first to attend CCCC in Camden. She has received certificates from in “Business Management and Secretarial Techniques” (Rutgers). Val studied Para-Legal, and Photography at CCCC-Blackwood. Val “was one of several persons who met and convinced the administrators of CCCC and Rowan (Glassboro) to open the first extension division in Camden.” Val is a board member who initiated the first Martin Luther King Scholarship at Rowan. Not one to sit around and watch the grass grow or cars go by, community activist Val, “organized the powerful ‘Stopped Traffic’ group in Centerville-Camden, obtaining 6 permanent traffic lights to symbolize the remembrance of deceased children from the hit-and-run auto drivers in that area.” Obviously a woman who cares, Val has worked on call, 24 hours to be a liaison between doctors, and older streetwise abusive drug users to help a youth who had OD. Val has worked for the CCOEO, as a consultant at the NJ Training Institute. Love of family was instrumental for her declining positions with the Department of Labor in Washington, DC, Shirley Chisholm NJ Narcotics Bureau. All said Val manages to enjoy “Art- Pencil sketching, water/oil painting, inspirational poetry, and singing.” The whole town is talking about this Jones girl!

Architect, Planner and Engineer, that’s John Kaiser. John and wife Veronica (Ronnie) have 3 children and 7 grandchildren. Ready when we need him, John served in the NJ National Guard and US Army Ready Reserves (’55-63). During ’79-’02, he was Technical Advisor to the NJ State Bureau of Housing Inspection. When he isn’t exercising at the UMDNJ Wellness Center, we think our John can probably be found engineering plans for his inspection of slot play at the casinos.

It will be easy to remember Sandy Katz Wolff “as a good friend.” Our Sandy “recently retired as a Speech and Language Therapist, having taught in NJ and FL.” High on her list of hobbies are travel and knitting.

Alive and kicking over in Wynnewood, PA is nimrod wannabee, Joseph Kaufman. “Remember me” says Joe, for as the song says, “I haven’t changed, but I‘m not the same”, and “Especially cause I AIN’T DEAD YET!” “A shy nerdy kid in high school” says Joe. “…Lived like Huckleberry Finn, hiking and fishing.” “No wonder Thoreau was my favorite author.” Not your average Joe, he had his heart set on marine biology at Miami U. but Dad had other ideas, suggesting pharmacy. Armed with a degree, Joe worked hospital pharmacy, and later managed several retail stores. He also spent 17 years with Merck in various positions. “I married late” continues Joe. “I have a wonderful wife Dana Axelrod.” The Kaufman’s have 2 children, Becca studying science at U. of Rochester and son Ben, a sophomore at Lower Merion High School. Hey Joe, have you read any good Samuel Clemens' books lately?

It comes as no surprise. We will just have to try our very best to remember Mary Ann Kucinsk Sparacio as a woman of many “?????” And so we will until she tells us just a wee bit more.

Page 59 May 7th, 2006

Harriet Leader Thumin reported in from York, PA that she and her husband have 3 children and 2 grandchildren. They too are sorry they are unable to attend due to illness, but Harriet says for us to “Come and visit us” at our “summer home in Margate, NJ”. Now that’s right nice of you Harriet! Just get well quick because there will be at least 150 of us stopping by!

To quote Barry Leff: “2 children, one of each.” “4 grandchildren, 3 boys, 1 girl, oldest is a freshman at Cook College- Rutgers U.” ‘Nuff, said, Barr!

Wish I could write about Richard A. Liccketto, Sr. but he’s “Not Attending”.

Remember that Ronald Liszewski has a, “successful life as a now retired architect” and is “Blessed with 4 grandkids, age 19 to 2.” A resident of Williamstown, NJ, Ron “even designed some schools for the Camden B. of E.” It can now be disclosed that Ron’s first name is “Francis”. As if we didn’t know all along!

We have tried every way possible but we just can't seem to find anything "little" or small about the family of Evelyn Little Williams. Large in numbers and big of heart, you’ll need all your fingers, toes, nose, and then some for a head count of the Williams’. The last time Evelyn, a widow, reported in it was “6 children, 15 grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren”. This, by any method, adds up to 36 place settings at mealtime and you can bet that our girl can name them all! Come on Evelyn, no way you have time for “Sewing, Arts & Crafts.” Just kidding here of course, Evelyn, but when they say “Guess who’s coming to dinner”, we now know why the cook heads for the hills!

“I am now starting to take it easier, and really enjoy being a grandparent” writes Gloria Luciani Santucci. “Mother of four, grandmother of seven and married almost 46 years to classmate Jack Santucci.” The Santucci children “are college graduates, married, and have families of their own. The ’grand's' are a blessing to behold and for whom we are very proud. Daughter Joanne and husband Michael have their own business in southeastern PA. Son Jack Jr. is a pilot and Captain in the USCG. He and wife Julie live in VA with John III and Jamie. Daughter Elaine and husband Greg live in South Jersey with Joseph and Valerie. Elaine is an elementary school teacher. Daughter Karen lives in PA with Skye and is a bank auditor.” “With God’s blessings”, writes Gloria, “all are in good health and will continue to do well”. Enjoy those grandkids, Gloria!

We are glad David Luciano showed up today. Sadly, his wife and classmate, Michelina Guiliano Luciano is not here to share in our celebration. Color Guard Captain " Mickie" passed away in October of 1990. The Luciano’s have one son David, and two grandchildren, David and Brandon. Dave has, "Done a lot of traveling- that’s about it! Not too exciting!” We’ll see if we can change that Dave! Hmm, I have this friend…

Ever on-the-go Wayne G. MacDowell reports, “I’ve had a wonderful life and it continues!” Wayne and wife Ruth are "married 47 years, have 2 daughters and 5 grandkids." Wayne finished undergraduate studies at Louisiana State University and Rutgers. He spent 40 plus years in the business world, 20 with Thomas J. Lipton (Tea), and 20 with Chock Full O’ Nuts, till May 1998. Our busy Wayne’s version “of an enjoyable retirement” reads like continuing employment. A former Director of Marketing and Sales Operations at “Chock”, he is a “consultant to the Tea and Coffee industry.” Wayne recently retired from the Board of Directors for the Tea Association of the USA, and remains a consultant to the industry in the US and Great Britain. In between managing their rental properties in FL, our man managed to author a novel, “Not Just Another Love Story” (1999). “Writing is great fun!” Wayne exclaims, and has begun a second, a "WWII Air Corps fact based fiction tale centered in the USA and Europe.” In our closing out this working retirement report, Wayne notes that he does “volunteer work for the Chamber of Commerce and am on the Board for our international sister-city, Sandown, Isle of Wight, England.” And finally- upon reaching real retirement some would say, Wayne also enjoys the good life in St. Pete Beach, thanks to tennis, and boating in his 27 FT cabin cruiser. What, no tee time?

Strike up the band! Alexander Mack, Jr. is here! And “I’m still living in Camden”, he tells us with added emphasis. Alexander and “ex-wife Marion had 4 children, 9 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.” He worked at Owens-Corning in Barrington 22 years, leaving when the plant closed in 1987. He presently has 18 years with the Camden County Department of Public Works.

Hey Tony! Let’s write about Anthony Marino right here because he didn’t tell us what to put down.

Brace yourself class! We need someone to lead the parade. Drum Majorette Betty L. Matthews Beyers will not be here today. A “Not able to attend” message reached our in-box. Betty and husband Paul Beyers (CHS’51), have 2 children, Paul Jr., Denise, and 5 grandchildren. Still working Betty is an accredited Orthopedic Fitter of medical equipment.

She was a bit hard to find but we did. “Still working as a Legal Secretary” writes Joan Mazola Cirucci. Married 50 years to husband Joe (retired), the Mazola’s have, “3 children, Cheryl- teacher, Louis- commercial sales director, and Christa- accountant. “4 grandchildren, Joseph 17, Jaclyn 16, Alyssa 12, and John 10, and they are my greatest achievement” says a proud Joan.

Let it now be known the Class of ’55 has its own “Dr. J.” She is of course, Dr. Janice Meisenheimer Hunter and comes complete with her own “court” so to speak. Married 44 years to the Hon. Mac D. Hunter, Judge, Superior Court of NJ, the Hunter family “team” consists of: “daughter Kimberly, attorney and VP for Federal Government Affairs, Washington, DC, and granddaughter, Mia Gabrielle, age 2 with one due in July.” Also, in Minot, ND, is second daughter, Dr. Jennifer Hunter, MD (Dermatologist). Rounding out the Hunter team is son David, an Engineer and grandson Charles, age 5. Our “Dr. J”, Janice, received her doctorate in educational leadership at U of Nevada and “retired from teaching high school and college Biology last June.” The Hunter’s, winners on and off the court, “hope to complete a world cruise by 2008.” Take us too Janice! There’s this fantastic ship, the Marco Polo that…

"Most inquisitive and still learning" is how Harriet (now known as Samantha) Miller Greer describes herself. "I followed a typical fifties female Jewish path to a point. "I married a doctor, had a boy and a girl, and moved to the suburbs after living in Philadelphia (again) and DC. "I moved to San Francisco in the 80's. "I founded Parents Place in New York, helped replicate it in San Francisco and moved on to found Caring For Children for youngsters living in difficult circumstances. "I worked with the SF, LA, and NYPD as well as orphanages across Latin America. "I partnered with Save The Children in Honduras and Kosovo ultimately reaching over one million traumatized children in collaboration with police departments across the US and international relief organizations aboard. "I'm still waiting for grandkids."

“Semi-retired as a waterproofing company estimator”, Larry Miller and his wife of 43 years Janet, have 3 children and 8 grandchildren. Larry tells us he is “Sorry- will be missing Reunion- but will be in Israel. By the way Larry, Will you be semi-working when you return? “N’see ya tova”, Larry.

It may seem that life after CHS for Richard Montemurro has been all business and filled with education. “Richie” (BS, Temple), taught at CHS’ nemesis WWHS for 11 years (I remember “Richie”, reminds my better half), eventually “moving into the Board of Education’s Business Office as Assistant, and later Director of Business Services.” He received his “Master’s degree in Secondary Administration and was certified as a Secondary School Principal and Assistant Superintendent for Business.” He “retired in 1999 after 40 years, from the Camden City Board of Education’s Business Division as Director of Business Services.” He is also a past President of both Camden City and Camden County Education Associations. Retirement for “Richie” means, “I have been involved with photography in particular and art in general, exhibiting my photographs in art galleries, both locally, in NY and other parts of the country and various art exhibitions. “I have been President of the Haddonfield Arts and Crafts League (now the Markeim Art Center), Cherry Hill Arts League and the Burlington County Art Guild, and presently curate it’s annual Robert Ransley Juried Art Show, held at the Mt. Holly Library, Mt. Holly, NJ. “I am a member of the Markeim Art Center’s Teaching staff where I have taught basic digital photography.” Remember him “As myself” he writes. Turns out life wasn't all business, as “Richie” and wife Jacqueline were married in 1985. They reside in Runnemede and have no children but quickly notes that “we do have a West Highland Terror-(err, “Terrier”).” Aptly named “Art” we presume! We'll also use this spot to thank "Richie" for covering us with the fine art work!

He was one of the hardest to locate but we did it with the help of our secret agent in the field. Now we can remember Howard Mount as the, “Youngest Class Member”. Whatever you say Howard! (Is this boy is in trouble- there are at least 45 girls here today that claim this title). Howard reports in that he has “4 sons, 1 daughter, and 3 grandchildren.” A Realtor and Mortgage Broker, Howard enjoys tennis and boating. The youngest member…??? The kid’s a dreamer, still!

Very quickly, and as if reading a Badge 714 script, here’s William H. Myers reporting in after responding to our form. First question: “2 daughters, 1 granddaughter.” Second question: “Acting, golf instructor.” Third question: “Retired after 27 years in the TV and Motion Picture Industry.” And, our Bill adds, “Wonderful wife, Sandy.” Bill- We won’t tell “Little Rags” Ragone that you were just “acting”, as a “golf instructor”, when you charge him for those lessons!

We certainly are glad Carol Nickelson Garrison is here. The widowed Carol drove her "four-wheeler" in to tell us she has “2 children, 6 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.” Wow! Now that’s really great, Carol!

Stanley Ogen writes, “Married Cynthia Silen (CHS’60) in 1963. “Two children and one incredible grandson”, he continues. “Since 1975”, Stan the “President/Creative Director of Ogen Creative Services, has received over 75 national advertising and PR awards”. “Passions” he reminds us, “still include summers at the shore, traveling the world, working out (not as much as I should), museums, antique shows and old fairs, designing “stuff”… and most of all spending time with our family and friends.” Sound like good “stuff” to us, Stan!

She spoiled our day! “I will not be able to attend” writes Bena Ostroff Kallick. Remember her because she is, “still fighting for a fair and equitable education for our children and grandchildren”. We wish you were here Bena, so we could discuss this further!

She was a hard one to track down too. “Thanks for nagging us!!” writes Kay Patterson Chudnoff. Remember “Katie” as “Happily married for 21 years! “3 children, 8 grandchildren, I’m truly blessed”, she adds. We’re looking forward to seeing you again too, Katie! Nag, nag, nag, that’s the kinda guy Bob G. can be!

It’s “Showtime!” and the audience is eagerly awaiting Anthony Piciotti to tell us to remember that, “I Kept Trying- Never Give Up.” We like these words to live by and will remember, Tony. We also were hoping that you’d be able to “Save the Last Dance for us.” Take a well-deserved bow Tony, and then exit stage door right!

We found Bevelyn Pitts Clark on a rainy afternoon in NC, and she was in GA. “I married Douglas Clark” she writes softly. “We share 9 children, 11 grandchildren. I help Douglas in the ministry and I’m also the Church Secretary”, Bevelyn continues. Her hobbies include Traveling and Reading. Bevelyn is also a Communications Consultant for 5linx’s.

“Remember me as young, beautiful and skinny (Ha! Ha!), says a haughty Virginia Player Good. “Each of which, I never was and always hoped to be.” “But now at age 68, I’m just glad to be alive!” Ginny tells us before getting to the serious part that she and husband Gene have 2 children (1b, 1g), 4 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. And, they are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary this June 16th! Let’s all go congratulate the Good‘s 50th, 50 times. That’s what I call Good work!

We can’t say much about Nicolas Pontelandolfo because he didn’t say much about Nick Ponte either. It matters not, for we do know that if you need auto parts, first get a Ford some might say, and then send an e-mail message to [email protected]. How’s that for a commercial, Nick?

Congratulations are in order as June Ponzo Jackson writes to tell us, “We have 4 children and 7 grandchildren” and that “Harry and I have just celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary.” June’s hobbies are gardening and traveling. We hope Harry and June enjoy this big party we threw for them today!

Remember how Robert Ragone “liked to dance” and that he loved “sports and cars.” He “loves to play tennis and golf.” The Ragone’s have “6 grandchildren, 3 kids”. He worked as an Accountant at RCA for 35 years. Hey! “Little Rags”! Do golfing accountants count their strokes or estimate them? Did you know Bill Myers is a golfing instructor?

Reporting in from Moorestown is William Ramick. “Reds” and wife Mary have, “Three children: Greg, Sharon, Denise, three grandchildren: Rebecca, Lydia, Sara. Let’s ask “Reds” to tell us about the “Project Manager”?

Just remember that Henry Randazzo, “Lived to go to the 50th reunion”. “7 grandchildren and 3 children” writes Henry. He “retired from the Navy, after serving 4 years on active duty and 21 years in the active reserves”. Now “retired from full time employment”, Henry is his own employer, “buying and selling new merchandise in the house ware industry.” One just can’t get used to retirement can we?

I would like to bet you all those nieces and nephews are glad they are related to Edith D. Revels. Especially so when Aunt Edith, a “retired US Postal Service Supervisor”, returns with presents from her travels throughout the USA, including cruises to Alaska and Hawaii, Canada, Australia, Bermuda, and many islands in the Caribbean. She hasn’t told us, but we also think Aunt Edith has occasionally managed to take a few of her favorites along with her on those trips too. Edith is a graduate of the Philadelphia College of the Bible Evening School. Welcome home, Aunt Edith!

“I’m a retired principal”, writes an instructive and proper Annetta Riggs-Braxton. “I taught many years in Camden. “I also served as an adjunct professor at Camden County College.” She’s a “proud mother of two (2) daughters and grandmother of one (1) grandson, Malcolm. “I’m blessed!!!”

She was almost the ‘gal that got away‘, but we made a determined effort to find Helen Robinson Wojtech and we‘re glad we did. Remember her because “After all these years, I’m still smiling.” The Robinson’s “had four children- Beth, Rick (deceased 1993), Randall and Chris- who are all grown-up and married- 7½ grandchildren who keep us busy all of the time.” Helen is “still teaching and plans to do so for as long as I can because I love what I do.” A busy Helen’s hobbies include “reading (especially about history) and collecting antique glassware and pottery.” Helen adds that husband “Karel’s hobby is keeping me out of trouble.” It’s a tough job, right Karel? Yes, we know- somebody‘s got to do it!

Remember James T. Robinson “As a man of God and Savior, Jesus Christ.” The Robinson family is blessed with 1 son, 4 daughters, nine grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren- “all doing well in the name of Jesus Christ.” Knowing where his heart is, Jim wishes to “Thank you Jesus for the wisdom and knowledge.” Amen, Jim.

Approaching the bar is Zev Rose. Remember him “As a “good” guy!” he requests. “No effort to do that, Zev” because bar none, it’s done, we tell him. “My wife is Carol,” pleads our Zev. Here then is the reading of the remainder of the transcript- “We have 2 sons: 1. Leon, wife, Donna, Children, Sam and Brooke; 2. Adam, wife, Stacey, Children, Gabriella, Jacob & Noah.” Duly recorded, case dismissed!

It’s awful easy to remember Marie Rossi-Lohmiller, “As someone who is friendly, somewhat shy, one who likes to volunteer”, (Your committee ‘Thanks You, Marie’). She “enjoys gardening, and enjoys being with people.” We wonder if she remembers how much we enjoyed those Dance Club sessions in the basement at Hatch! How’s that for remembering way, way back, Marie?

We decided to give everyone a look at the message from John J. Santucci, Sr. as is because it gives us the opportunity to compare Jack‘s message with the message sent in by his wife and high school sweetheart Gloria Luciani Santucci shown earlier. Here goes! “After graduating from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1960, I married my high school sweetheart, Gloria Lucianni (CHS ’55). We raised four children (Joanne, Jack Jr., Elaine and Karen) who graduated from college, married and have their families, which include our seven grandchildren. ”After more than 40 years around naval ships, both on active duty and as an engineering defense contractor, obtaining a MBA from Drexel University, and becoming a Professional Engineer in NJ/PA, I am now semi-retired from the VSE Corporation of Alexandria, VA. “I’m working as a part-time consultant; playing ’hacker’ type golf and spending time at the shore. “It’s been a good way for my evolution into becoming a full-time beach bum, the one occupation that comes to me quite naturally. “Best of all, I enjoy spending time with the grandchildren.” That was nicely done Jack. Note to Bill Myers- can you instruct an evolving hacker-golf playing-beach bum?

Now here’s a spot for Anthony Saracino. Someone ask “Tony” to “Make our day” by remembering to make our little book complete!

Out spreading the word is a dedicated and devout Hester Savage Hunley suggesting we, “Don‘t walk in front of me, I might not follow. “Don‘t walk behind me I might not lead. “Just walk beside me and be my ’friend’. “ Heather, a widow, is “one of Jehovah‘s Witnesses, preaching whenever and wherever I can!” She also managed to tell us she is a “teacher of the handicapped”, having received her BA graduating magna cum laude from Glassboro State College. Heather has two children, and four grandchildren. Son Raymond I. Hunley, Jr., a welder, has two children, Sheryl- attending college, and Brandon- who plans to follow in his father‘s profession. Heather’s son, Thomas, is in Business Sales and has two children, Jalissa, age 5, and Sara, age 4. Peace is with you Heather and we no longer look over our shoulder when you’re around!

“Not attending” is Edwin Schulnick, but we can remember Ed as a “dedicated family man. Ed has 3 children and 5 grandchildren. A retired postal worker, Ed is an avid golfer and jogger, including 2 marathons! Look! See Ed run!

If we have a 55th reunion, I’ll be there” writes a hopeful Diane Scott Taylor. “If my address changes, I’ll let someone know.” “Have a great 50th reunion!” she wishes to all. And we ALL plan to be at the 55th too Diane. Oh Diane, what I could do with those lines…

Married for 48 years, Joan Senatore Dicrescenzo and husband Julio “have 3 children and 7 grandchildren.” Joan “retired after 26 years a secretary in the Attendance Office at Haddon Township High School.” Good thing you are here today Joan, otherwise the Reunion Truant Officer would have been knocking at your door!

Robert Smith says only that he was a manager for Utility Life Insurance Company and is retired. Let’s go over to Bob's table and ask him to tell us more!

Surely and without a doubt, we can remember a smiling Esther Sobel Zoblin, “As a good person.” We also can remember her and all those laugh-filled afternoons in “Doc” Smith’s class. Esther and husband Martin have 3 children, 7 grandchildren. The Zoblin’s are both retired, and enjoy traveling.

Ah…to be “Retired 11 years.” That’s an “Occupation” we all could live with! So it goes for Stanley Sobel (BSME ’59 Penn; MSME ’66 Villanova). Lucky Stan now gets to spend his time with “grandchildren, travel, fishing, gardening, model trains”.

This little spot is where we thought, hoped, and prayed we would get our secret agent Angeline Staffirre Doyle “to tell all” but she didn’t mention a single thing. Well guess what? Neither will I. On second thought I’ll just make up a few things. Let’s see, Hmm… A dancer back then, “Could She Have Danced All Night?”

“Married 50 years” writes William K. Stauts. The Stauts' have “5 children, 7 grandchildren.” Bill has his own printing business in Medford. When not operating the business along with the children, Bill manages to volunteer his time to the Medford Business Association, Medford Historical Society, Cultural Arts Committee, the Rotary, and the Community Center. A busy man, this Bill, thanks for answering our call when we needed you Bill.

Just because Catherine Strachan Hewitt says, “I wouldn’t” want to be remembered, “if referring to High School days” doesn’t mean we won’t. On the other hand we’ll choose to remember “Kitty” because of her “Dedication to my students and profession”, but most of all her “love for my family and friends”. A busy and proud mother of 2 children (daughter, son) and 4 grandchildren, "Kitty" (BS/HCA), still finds time for painting and decorating.

Everyone can remember Renee Tacknoff Gold as a “Good student and a good friend” without being told! She has 3 children and 7 grandchildren. For Renee, enjoyment is “…cooking, playing bridge and spending time with my family.”

Just remember Jack Tanier as a, “…Fun loving hopeless romantic ‘artist’” and “living LIFE large with ‘Gusto’.” Hit the road Jack, and take us with you!

We often find that a nice person does nice things and that’s why we are going to rememberCarolyn M. Taylor Cook for, “Helping People”.

Congratulations also to Marva Thomas Murphy as she writes, “Married to Al for 50 years.” The Murphy’s have “3 children, 7 grandchildren and 1 grandchild.” Marva “retired from Campbell Soup Company after 22 years.” She now “works part time for the Camden County Recreation Program and the Camden County Board of Elections.” Marva, what are we going to do at “Soup time” now?

Loretta Thompson Schnitzius finally has roots in Cocoa Beach, FL after stops in Cherry Hill, NJ, and lower DE. When “Opportunity” knocked, Loretta and John, husband of 44 years answered. They then relocated there some 23 years ago. They have 3 children. “A son and daughter live in FL and a son lives in Australia.” 5 grandchildren (ages 3.5 to 12) complete the Schnitzius’ family. Both Loretta and John are retired but “very busy camping, traveling, fishing and sailing.” Loretta has some beautiful artwork and it can be seen at www.fifthavenueartgallery.com. I’m just bananas over it too, Loretta!

I’d write a whole lot more about Lois Truetter Ream but her sheet was empty. I know she’s married to a wonderful guy who I promised that he would have a great time here, especially as he decided to attend, and work without pay or benefits. He’s here, so let’s make sure he does- Have fun and work!

We’re very glad Eleanor Tureck Puryear made it to the Reunion. She didn’t write anything for us to scribble about, but we’ll remember her as the girl who also illustrated for the “Hatchet” at HJHS, and we have the book to prove it!

He is, “Happily retired, active in the church, enjoying beach and golf.” That’s the big message from big George Wade. With “6 great kids, 9 grand kids and 2 great grand kids”, he is sure to be remembered, “As someone who had good impact on family and friends.”

Short and sweet is the message from long and tall Eugene Wales. Remember him “Kindly”. We found him way out in the Pacific Northwest and he made it all the way here today! Now kindly go get some answers to our questions!

Page 75 May 7th, 2006

Remember Fred C. Wawrzyniak, “As the blonde-haired member of the class of ’55 who thought he was going to be an architect of buildings but ended up an architect of distribution and transportation.” Ok Fred, whatever it takes, but I’d rather remember you as the lucky guy who had two very attractive neighbors!

“Still working” writes Richard Weirauch, the former master of the long one-hander from what is now 3 pt. land. “United Refrig, 45 years, Inside Sales Mgr”, he continues. “4 children, 9 grandchildren”, he quickly adds. Warming to the task, a now loosened “Monk” tells us he has been “President of Frankford Boys club since 1977” and is the owner of a 1952 M.G.T.D. Sports Car.” I almost forgot- the first entry in his list- “U.S.M.C. 4 years.” A never to be forgotten moment- "Monk's" expression and comments to a first day, Marine recruit after their unexpected encounter in the morning chow line at USMCRD, PI, SC, Oct'55. Semper FI, "Monk"!

Virginia Weyman DiBartolomeo makes life simple for transcribers. Is there any way to remember “Ginny” other than the girl who was always, “Smiling?”

You’ll find Joan Wilkinson Watson “Spending our summers at the shore.” “A love of the water” enables the Watson’s to “do lots of boating”. Remember Joan as, “Happily married to Fred for over 45 years” and that they have “3 great children and 1 grandson.”

We too are just glad that Betty Williams Shelton is, “Just glad to be at the Reunion.” We are just as glad that she helped on the committee!

Page 76 May 7th, 2006

Remember Roland Williams as “Johnny Cake, the friendly guy!” Easy-going Johnny Cake says, “Married to my wife Carolyn in October 1988, (second time around).” The Williams’, “have four children and nine grandchildren. “Daughters- Kelly has 3, Glenda 2, Cheryl 2, and son Mark 2.” In 1987 he relocated to Florida with Siemens-Westinghouse, retiring to Elkton, MD in 2000. In 1994 the always-on track “Cake” was “appointed to the National AAU Junior Olympics Track and Field Committee. The year 2002 saw him elected National VP and Commissioner of the Northeast. In 2002 he started Roland Williams Enterprises Inc., a home improvement firm. Wrapping it up nicely, Johnny Cake comments, “In short, that’s what I do, see you May 7th.”

Everyone will agree that bringing up “4 children alone, 30 years baby sitting 4 grandchildren” is reason enough for us to remember Joan Woloszyn Lalla, as a, “Loving, caring Mother, Grandmother, and friend.” A “Student of the Bible”, our Joan is “active in swimming and aerobics.” Good job, Joan.

Arnold Young writes that he is a “semi-retired Clinical Psychologist”, having received his PH.D from Temple. Arnold and wife Harriet are married 43 years and have 2 children and 4 grandchildren. Please Arnold, you must tell us what it is you do when you are “semi-working”?

Page 77 May 7th, 2006

“Fondly” is how we can remember John Young. Nice touch, “Youngie”, and we will do so. Also answering to Jack, he has “4 children (3b, 1g) by first wife”. He spent 4 years in the USMC and is retired from the Bucks County government. A “regular churchgoer, Lutheran Church in Morrisville”, he finds “Faith very important, especially these days.” Jack received an “Associates Degree from County College then my marriage fell apart.” He “met another, great gal, lifetime partner.” Jack and Martha “RV in a 32’ Jayco motor home as much as possible” meeting, "lots of nice people.” The Young’s also "have a 10 month old Cock-a-Poo puppy named Sandy that has been a delight”. Semper Fi, Jack!

When you get to “Z” you know you’re close to the last vignette. This collection of “Remember Me” went from A to Regina Zubrzycki Urban. Having a “Z” for a last name, our “Reggie” was accustomed to being last (name-wise of course) in every list. Our list of classmates would be incomplete without her entry. Even marrying Richard Urban (SJHS’54) in 1959 only moved her up a few positions- alphabetically speaking. But we all know, no matter what the letter, you’ll always find “Reggie” first in line when it comes to lending a hand, volunteering, and offering friendly assistance. Sometimes a girl just can’t win, but win she did as the Urban’s have “4 sons and 15 grandchildren.” What better way to end this collection than to remember a quiet and thoughtful “Reggie” as “Blessed.”

Finis!
