Jesus told this parable.

“The kingdom of heaven

is like a mustard seed

that someone took and

sowed in his field; it is

the smallest of all the

seeds, but when it has

grown it is the greatest of

shrubs and becomes a

tree so that the birds

of the air come and

make nests in its

branches.” Matthew 13:31-32

This past May, Trinity’s Mission Resource Team

distributed marigold seeds after worship. You

were invited to plant the seeds at home as a

reminder of God’s vibrant gifts. Many people

who were in worship took home a plastic zip top

bag with a few dozen seeds. Recently, I’ve

begun hearing your stories and seeing your

pictures of the marigolds you planted. You can

share more stories and photos with me at

[email protected] or when you see me at

Trinity. So far the stories sound a lot like my

own experience.

I came home with my bag of seeds fully expecting

to plant them Memorial Day weekend when I

thought the chance of frost was mostly past. I

missed my intended planting day, but eventually

wrapped my two brown thumbs and all eight

brown fingers around a shovel, turned over the

soil in a small patch by our garage that gets a

fair amount of sunshine, and planted the

marigold seeds.

Those little seeds looked like I remembered

marigold seeds from when my mother let me

help her plant them in our yard when I was a

child. While I can still sing my ABC’s and count

to 10, the marigold planting skills of my childhood

have been lost to the years so I looked up

“planting marigold seeds” on the internet and

read instructions about how to plant the seeds

an inch apart and an inch deep. It seemed

simple enough. I watered them a couple times,

but the frequent rains took care of that most of

the summer.

I was so happy when they started to grow. And

Grow. AND GROW.

By the time mid-July came along, I knew these

were not the same cute little marigolds I

remembered from my childhood. As of

mid-September, most of the plants are well over

30 inches tall with flowers the size of carnations.

Far bigger than the flowers the diameter of

quarters that I remembered.

Jesus told the parable of the small mustard seed

growing into the greatest of shrubs. In my

yard, Jesus could have told the parable of the

marigold seeds. Although there are no birds

making nests in the marigolds, there is a chipmunk

that dashes from a hole under the garage into

the shade and protection of the towering marigold

plants.

When I planted the marigold seeds as a reminder of

God’s gifts, I had no idea of the kind of lesson

God was going to show me. God’s gifts far

exceed my expectations. I thought I’d have

some pretty flowers to accent the patch of

ground by our garage. Instead, I have a

substantial living bouquet of HUGE flowers that

tell me every time I see them, “God is already

doing so much more than you can imagine.”

May God continue to surprise you with reminders of

God’s abundant, overflowing, life-giving love

that exceeds your expectations and your imagination.

In Peace,

Pastor Kristi Weber

Fall Bazaar

Saturday, Oct 26

11:00 a.m.- 1:00 p.m. Proceeds go towards benevolent projects of the

Women of Trinity. Supplemented by Thrivent.

Fall Bazaar Good food, smiles, conversation, and treasures await members and friends attending Trinity Women’s annual fall bazaar from 11-1, Saturday, October 26.

Barbecues, pie, and coffee or cider may be purchased for $7.00. For $3.50, you can choose either pie or barbecue with beverage. Scandinavian goodies, candy, baked goods, plants and produce, and grandma’s attic treasures will be available for purchase.

Trinity women are asked to bring a pie and items for the sale tables by 10 a.m. or the day before.

Proceeds will be used in Trinity for kitchen supplies and upkeep, confirmation flowers, holiday food basket donations, third grade Bibles, and board book Bibles to be given to newly baptized infants and toddlers. The women’s budget also benefits the community and beyond in gifts to Head Start, Red Willow Bible Camp, Safe Shelter, Salvation Army, Perry Center, Lost and Found Ministries, Lutheran World Relief, and Lutheran Disaster Relief. Seed money for the lunch and advertising is provided by Thrivent Financial.

Making use of perhaps the last good weather

for travel, Young at Heart will gather at the

Medina Café to order off the menu at 11:30

a.m. on October 14.

We will ride Trinity’s van (or carpool) from

the church at 10:45, with each rider contributing

$3 toward the gas. Anyone needing a ride

to the church is asked to call the church by

9:00 a.m.

Quilting

Busy hands worked pressing and cutting fabric and assembling kits for members to take home to sew 60" x 80" quilt tops to be used in making quilts for Lutheran World Relief, with the first fall shipment of quilts taking place the week of October 14-18. The kits may be found in the gathering space and returned there when completed. This advance

prep work is important to ensure productive quilting sessions. (Sew at home if you are unable to come on quilt days.)

One quilting session was held in September with sessions planned for Monday, October 7 and Tuesday, October

15 at 9:30- 3:00. New quilters are urged to come and join our small group. No experience is needed as the quilts are simply tied, not hand quilted. If able to stay through the noon hour, bring a sack lunch. Come for whatever part of the day you can.

Thrivent Financial provided $250 seed money for purchase of quilt batting and other supplies.

Thanks for Completing

45 School Kits!

Thank you for the donated school supplies which filled 45 school bags that will be part of the LWR shipment the week of October 14-18.

Thanks again to Les Odland for volunteering to take the kits and quilts to Fargo for shipment.

All Saints’ Sunday is November 3. If you

would like a loved one (who has died since

November 1, 2018) remembered during worship on

All Saints’ Sunday, please send his or her name,

with the correct spelling, to Meggen at

[email protected] or bring to the Trinity

office before October 15. Thank you.

Wendy Thompson Speaking

on Trip to Israel

Walking where Jesus walked was an inspiring

part of Wendy and Dale Thompson’s recent

trip to Israel. Wendy will share her observations

and impressions of modern day Israel and of

the Holy Land where Jesus lived and died. All

members and friends of Trinity are invited to

her narrated power point presentation at 2 p.m.

Sunday, October 6 at Trinity. Lunch will be

served following the presentation.

Confirmation Celebrations Confirmation Banquet will be held on October 20.

As is Trinity tradition, 9th graders will host and

serve the banquet. Thank you so much for serving

your church community in such a meaningful

way.

Affirmation of Baptism will be celebrated on

October 27 at 10:45 worship. Please join us in

celebrating with our 10th graders as they reach

this important faith milestone. Your love and

support are a vital part of the success of Trinity's

young people.

GOD Squad Relationship Oxford dictionary defines relationship in this

way: the state of being connected by blood.

This year we will examine our relationships...

with GOD and with one another. What does it

mean to be connected by blood?

All highschoolers are invited to attend. We use a

multi-media approach to open discussion about

the topics that impact highschoolers every day.

It's real, it’s relevant, sometimes it's hard, but it

is always meaningful and Spirit-led. Join us. I

think you will be surprised by the experience.

GOD Squad begins on Sunday October 13 at

6:30 pm. We will have a meal together. Please

join us.

PULSE Sunday Morning programming for 6th-9th graders.

PULSE began September 8 at 9:30 and continues

throughout the school year. We watch videos,

listen to music, play games, and have great

conversations, all about how The Bible and our

faith pertain to our Middle School lives. We use

this time to strengthen our relationships with

God and with one another. It makes for a fun, effective

and meaningful hour together. I so look forward

to spending this time with our incredible young

people. Thank you for sharing them with me!
