Bonsai Society of Southern Tasmania Membership Application Form Full name Postal address Telephone: E-mail address The membership year is from 1 July to the end of the next June. The current membership fee is $35 or $45 for couples with the same address. New members joining from 1 April get membership through until the end of June of the next year. WelcometotheBonsaiSocietyofSouthernTasmania,thesouthernmostbonsaisocietyinAustralia.Bonsaiisafour-dimensionalartform,havingheight,width,depthandtime.Itallowstheenthusiasttocloselystudytheon-goingdevelopmentofatreethat,inNature,couldachieveaheightof20–30m,butinbonsaimaybeonly30–40cmtall.ThechallengeistoreflecttherealityofNatureonamuchsmallerscale.AlthoughoriginatinginChinaanddevelopedinJapan,interestinbonsaiisnowaglobalphenomenonandsomeoftheverybesttreesandcollectionscanbefoundinotherareasoftheWorld.

MembersoftheSocietyarebonsaienthusiastsinHobartandsurrounds.Theyareabsolutenovicesthroughtotheexperiencedandverytalentedexpert.

Members’treesincludetheclassicbonsai,suchasmaplesandpines,throughtorareexoticsandAustralianand,especially,Tasmaniannativespecies.

MembershipoftheSocietyisopentoallthoseinterestedinbonsai,fromtheenthusiasticbeginnertotheseasonedexpert.Memberscanattendmonthlymeetings,participateinthemanyworkshops,jointree-collectingexcursions,andshowtreesinourexhibitions.Theyreceive11copiesoftheSociety’sNewslettereachyearandhaveaccesstoalargelendinglibraryofbonsaibooksandmagazines.

ThemonthlymeetingsareheldonthethirdTuesdayofthemonth,fromFebruarythroughtoNovemberattheBelleriveCommunityArtsCentre(17CambridgeRoad,Bellerive,7018)startingat7.30pm.PotentialmembersarewelcometoattendasaguestbeforejoiningtheSociety.TheSocietyarrangesvisitstoHobartbyexpertbonsaipractitionersfrominterstateandoverseastorunspecialprogramsformembers.TheSocietyisaffiliatedtotheAssociationofAustralianBonsaiClubs(AABC).OnememberisaDemonstratorundertheAABC’sVisitingTutorProgram.TheBonsaiSocietyofSouthernTasmaniawasdelightedtobeselectedtohostthe29thAustralianNationalBonsaiConventioninHobartinMay2016.
