David Sedaris’s Me Talk Pretty One Day (2000) is a New York Times best-selling collection of humorous, autobiographical essays. Sedaris has mastered the art of self-deprecating humor.

The 28 essays are strung together by personal, life moments but divided into two parts. With a few exceptions, the essays focus on the early part of Sedaris’ life in the first half and the more recent years living in France for the second half.

Part 1 is compiled with memories of his family and others such as teachers. An emphasis is put on the relationship with his father, which isnt always smooth. There are plenty of awkward situations, unwelcome ones, and areas where David expresses not fitting in. Part 2 consists of more memories of family and teachers but in a new place - France. And it’s shared with his longtime partner.

book summary.

Page 12: Book Jacket Redesign
Page 13: Book Jacket Redesign

Born in 1956, Sedaris has been making audiences fall out of their seats for years.

With sardonic wit and incisive social critiques, David Sedaris has become one of America’s pre-eminent humor writers. The great skill with which he slices through cultural euphemisms and political correctness proves that Sedaris is a master of satire and one of the most observant writers addressing the human condition today.

David Sedaris is the author of Barrel Fever and Holidays on Ice, as well as collections of personal essays, Naked, Me Talk Pretty One Day, Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim, and When You Are Engulfed in Flames, each of which became a bestseller. There are a total of seven million copies of his books in print and they have been translated into 25 languages. He was the editor of Children Playing Before a Statue of Hercules: An Anthology of Outstanding Stories. Sedaris’s pieces appear regularly in The New Yorker and have twice been included in The Best American Essays.

David Sedaris’ non fiction novel is a New York Times best-selling collection of humorous, autobiographical essays. He has mastered the art of self-deprecating humor as each page turns.

The twenty-eight essays are strung together by personal, real life moments that he isn’t afraid to reveal. They divide into two parts. With a few exceptions, the essays focus on the early part of Sedaris’ life in the first half and the more recent years living in France for the second half.
