These two volumes not only present the results of a major archaeological survey, but form a comprehensive appraisal of the settlement history and ecology of this extensive region, in the hinterland of modern Fethiye, from the earliest prehistoric settlements until the late Ottoman period. They mark a landmark in the study of Mediterranean highland regions, and are a major new publication in the British Institute at Ankara’s monograph series. The Balboura Survey, directed by Dr James Coulton, formerly Reader in Classical Archaeology at Oxford University, was a pioneering archaeological project carried out in highland south-west Turkey in the 1980s and early 1990s.
