Neha Al-Alawi (Female Scholar from UK)

To,

Wajahat Hussain Al-Hanafi

whomsoever it may concern,

It has been two years since I have known Wajahat, as a close friend and a sister. I was

first introduced to brother Wajahat when I joined facebook/CIFIA group, where he also

was working as a colleague to spread the Aqeedah of Ahlus Sunnah Wal Jama’ah till it

crashed. I am writing this reference letter with regard to his personality and his book

which he’s writing in regards to wearing rings in Islam.

Wajahat is one of the most disciplined and punctual people I've ever known. His ability

to work efficiently under stressful conditions and nerve-wracking deadlines speaks

volumes about his hard work, determination and his composed demeanour. In his

previous work, he has demonstrated excellent leadership skills and team spirit while

working with a team of many people. I cannot stress this enough but he’s a wonderful

human being and a great researcher.

In general Wajahat is a compassionate and hardworking human being with

perseverance and ambition. After working with him for the past 2 year, I myself have

learned a lot from him when it comes to the Usul-ul-Hadith and discussion on narrators

of Hadith (Raawi’s) etc. His research is very through and straight to the point. I’d

recommend everyone reading and learning from this excellent work and spread it

around the world. One day Inshallah, he will be one of the top most scholars in the

world.

Sincerely,

Neha Al-Alawi

Syed Akram Ashraf (Student of Asma ur Rijal ul Hadith from India)

All Praise belongs to Allah Almighty and Peace and Salutations on the Prophet (Peace Be

Upon Him), his Companions and his Progeny.

I must consider myself esteem enough to get a chance to write my views on this great

books. Since long time It has been feeling to write a book on this topic and that too in

light of great luminous collection of Hadiths. Brother Wajahat Hussain Al-Hanafi has

done a wonderful job by collecting all these narrations and meantime discussing about

chain of narrators (Raawis), which is really a great work. At last I can say I am very

blessed to read this wonderful book.

Understanding the criticality of the current time where one pass judgement based on

his ill knowledge and apparently behave like mufti, it was needed to write a book which

exclusively talks about this topic. I would say that this book will work like antidote for

many people who are so much vocal on this important issue.

This is one of the best collections of hadiths on this Topic. He covered vast number of

books to collect these narrations. Wajahat Hussain Al-Hanafi made 18 chapters in this

book and every chapter is well supported and arranged .Due to this, this book is very

interesting in reading. The need of such work in contemporary times can never be

denied. This is a great effort and I am very Thankful to my loving brother Wajahat

Hussain Al-Hanafi for this wonderful book.

May ALLAH bless him with knowledge so that he keeps serving Ummah of Prophet

(Peace be upon Him) like this only.

Mohammed Irshad Ul Haque (Mudassir Ibn Shakira Al-Qadri) Research Scholar of usul ul Hadith and telecommunication sciences

To describe someone's status in knowledge, it is necessary for us to be knowledgeable as well,

else there will be no weight in our words. This principle is not formulated by me, but it has been

formulated by the Scholars of Ahlus-Sunna and A'imma of Asma Wal Rijal and Jarh Wa Ta’deel,

those who formulated the principles of hadeeth sciences, for its protection. In this context, I have

no right to determine the status of Shaykh Wajahat Hussain Al Hanafi in hadeeth sciences, and

to write something about it, but when I was asked to do so, I was unable to stop myself because I

felt privileged to get an opportunity to write a few words about his high rank in Uloom Ul

Hadeeth.

I met him in the Blessed city of the King of the Universe (Sallallahu alayhi wasallam), Al Madina

Al Munawwara-the heaven of the world, where I attended a special gathering of Huzoor Shaykh

Ul Islam Dr. Muhammad Tahir Ul Qadri Sahib (Daamat Barakatuhum) with his intercession, and

after Sama-e-Hadeeth, received Sanad E Hadeeth and Ijazat E Riwayat E Hadeeth along with

him. I and few of my folks had a discussion on the issue of "Tawassul-the intercession" and he

gave the lecture on this topic to a gathering of scholars and general people in the blessed yard of

enlightened Masjid An Nabawi, and learned many things from him. He presented nothing but the

truth in the light of Ahadeeth E Mubarak and discussed, in detail, the Thaqaahat and Adaalat

(Trustworthiness) of the Rijaal of Hadeeth E Malik Ad Dar (Radiallahu Anhu) and proved the

Hadeeth to be "Sahih" on the Criteria of Imam Muslim Rahimullah. This reflects, not only his high

status in principles of hadeeth sciences but also that he has a good hold on books of Asma Wal

Rijaal (narrators of Hadeeth). Before this, I used to contact him through internet as well, and

investigate many issues of usool ul hadeeth and he resolved them with a great ease.

I have gone through his new book "Jaami' fil Khawateem 'ala Minhaj ul Muhadditheen" and

found it to be a book of knowledge. This work is the first of its kind in the 1200 year old history of

Islam. In this book, Shaykh Wajahat Hussain Al-Hanafi has collected around 100 ahadeeth just

on the subject of "Wearing Rings". The Book is a gem for Fuqaha Ikraam and will remain a

treasure for them to derive ahkaam ul fiqh on the topic of "Wearing rings". Also, this book should

inspire prospective young scholars to collect large number of ahadeeth on each Sunnat E

Mubarak of the Prophet Sallallahu alayhi Wasallam. This is necessary for the protection of

Sunnahs of the Prophet in this prevailing era of ignorance. In my view, the book is very useful for

the seekers of knowledge of Hadeeth sciences.

Mohammed Irshad Ul Haque(Mudassir Ibn Shakira Al-Qadri),

Seeker of Knowledge.

Preface

In the name of Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala), the most benevolent and merciful, all

virtues are His. He is our Creator and Sustainer, the All - Seeing, All- Knowing and All -

Hearing. He is the one who disposes his servants the ability to do good. He who Allah

(Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) guides no one can lead astray and he who Allah (Subhanahu Wa

Ta’ala) leads astray no one can guide.

After thanking and praising Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala), all virtues are for our generous

Master (Peace Be upon Him), who was sent as a mercy to all worlds. Love for him is

evidence of love for Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) and adherence to his Sunnah (Peace

Be upon Him) is the only means of salvation. May abundant peace and blessings of Allah

be on our Master (Peace Be upon Him) and his family too.

Thereafter, I am grateful to my teacher Sayyadi Sheikh ul Islam Muhamamd Tahir Ul

Qadri (Maddazila hul Aali), whose lectures and books instilled a yearning for knowldge

of hadith in me. I am indebted for his extensive support and it is in following his example

I have embarked on these works. May Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) increase his status.

Subsequently I am grateful to my father who assists and motivates me in all my matters

and who became a means for attaining the literature needed for my work, then my

mother and my family who have continually facilitated my work. May Allah (Subhanahu

Wa Ta’ala) keep their presence over me always.

Lastly I am much obliged to my elders and special friends, namely Allama Ilyas Haashmi

(student of Sheikh ul Islam), brother Abdul Raheem and sister Neha Al-Alawi whose

countenances encouraged me to complete this work to the best of my ability. May Allah

(Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) bless them.

This subject area is covered by a vast number of books but in my opinion, no one book

covers the subject in its entirety. I gained inspiration and initiated this work after

reading Imam Bayhaqi's book “Shu'ab Al Iman” and “Jami' fil Khawateem”.' May Allah

increase his ranks.

Page 8: Book of Rings (by Wajahay Hussain Al-Hanafi)

With Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) guidance I have followed the doctrines of great

Muhadiths (experts of hadith) in order to sanctify the authenticity of this work. I have

only included those ahadith that have 'sanad' (That its isnaad (chain) is connected in

that every one if its narrators heard it directly from the person he is narrating from,

from the start of the isnaad to the end). I have devised this book in 18 chapters and

each chapter contains ahadith in the following context: Marfu' (Elevated) - a hadith that

goes back to the Prophet (Peace Be upon Him), Mauqoof- a hadith that goes back to the

companion (May ALLAH be please with them) and Al Maqtu' - a hadith that goes back to

the tabiee so one may benefit from knowing the actions of the beloved companions and

their followers.

Those ahadith taken from Bukhari and Muslim do not have their chains illustrated,

largely because the Muslim community has a consensus on these. Ahadiths taken from

all other books however, have their chains exemplified with sahee (authentic) ahadiths

accredited and daeef (weak) Ahadiths clarifying their weakness and narration. I have

strictly adhered to ensuring no such narrator is recorded in this book who has been

accused of lying or fabricating hadith because there is a hadith of the Prophet (Peace Be

upon Him) 'Whoever narrates a hadith knowing that it is a lie then he is one of the

people who has lied upon me. Albeit, in chapter 17 I have included a hadith as an

evidence of an authentic narration which contains one narrator who is accused of

fabrication.

Those Ahadith that are weak with one chain but have authenticity because of the

remaining chain have been referenced and classed 'hasan' (good). If the chain of

narration contains narrators that are not well known they have been accentuated so

seekers of knowledge may benefit. Some ahadith have been classified as doubtful in

light of some experts, but have been given a sahee (authentic) status if other authorities

have considered them reliable.

I pray Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) accepts this humble effort of mine.

Ameen.

Servant of Ilm ul Hadith and Muhadditheen

(Ahmad and Tabrani) (This Hadith is Sahi with the support of other narrations, Abdullah bin Mumil is weak narrator in it and all other narrators are trustworthy.) Imam Bayhaqi said: This narration is not strong. And (my) Sheikh (a teacher of Imam Bayhaqi) said it is better that the ruling on (wearing) iron should come under the category of makrooh-e-Tanzeehi (means disliked but Allowed) not Makrooh-e-Tahreemi (which is strongly disliked but not forbidden (Haraam). The brass was used to make Idols that is why Prophet (Peace be upon him) said that 'Why do I smell the odor of idols on you'. And He (Peace be upon Him) disliked iron because of its smell. And saying of Prophet (PBUH) that 'Why is it that I see on you the adornment of the people of Fire' is because it was one of the dresses of non-believers (in this world) who are actually people of fire (otherwise it’s not totally forbidden (Haraam). And ALLAH knows the best.

"Have you got anything to offer?" The man said, "No, by Allah, O Allah's Apostle!" The Prophet said (to him), "Go to your family and see if you have something." The man went and returned, saying, "No, by Allah, I have not found anything." Allah's Apostle said, "(Go again) and look for something, even if it is an iron ring." He went again and returned, saying, "No, by Allah, O Allah's Apostle! I could not find even an iron ring, but this is my Izar (waist sheet)." He had no rida. He added, "I give half of it to her." Allah's Apostle said, "What will she do with your Izar? If you wear it, she will be naked, and if she wears it, you will be naked." So that man sat down for a long while and then got up (to depart). When Allah's Apostle saw him going, he ordered that he be called back. When he came, the Prophet said, "How much of the Quran do you know?" He said, "I know such Sura and such Sura," counting them. The Prophet said, "Do you know them by heart?" He replied, "Yes." The Prophet said, "Go, I marry her to you for that much of the Quran which you have." (Bukhari and Muslim)

Hadrat Khalid bin Sa'eed narrates: I came in presence of the Prophet (Peace be upon him) and I was wearing a ring. The Prophet said: O Khalid what kind of ring is that? I said: It is a ring which I have made. The Prophet said: Throw it towards me. I presented it to Prophet and he looked it which was made of iron polished with silver. The Prophet (Peace Be upon him) asked: What is this engraving? I said: It says Muhammad ur Rasool Allah (Peace Be upon Him). The Prophet took it and wore it; hence that was the ring in his hand.

Imam Zahabi declared it weak in (his book) At-Talkhees Al Mustadrak because of Yahya Bin Abdul Hameed Al Himani who is Hafiz (ul Hadith) but accused of stealing narrations from other Imams. Abu Sa'id said, "A man came from al-Bahrain to the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and greeted him, but the Prophet did not answer him. The man was wearing a gold ring and a silk robe. The man went away in sorrow. He complained to his wife and she said, 'Perhaps the Messenger of Allah objects to your robe and your ring. Throw them away and then go back; he did that and then the Prophet returned his greeting. He said, 'I came to you yesterday and you turned away from me.' He said, 'You had a coal of the Fire on your hand.' He said, 'I came then with any coals.' He said, 'As for what you brought, there is no one who is free from dependence on these stones. But it is the enjoyment of the life of this world.' He said, 'What should I make a ring from?' 'From silver, brass, or iron,' He (Peace be upon Him) replied. Imam Ibn e Hajr Asqalani said in his commentary on Sahih Bukhari that: And Ibn e Abi Shaibah narrated (in his book) from Huzaifah and Abi 'Ubaidah (R.A) that 'Alhamdolillah' was engraved on their rings. 'Allahu al malik' was engraved on the on the ring of Ali (R.A). And 'Billah' was engraved on the ring of Ibrahim An Nakh'i. 'Bismillah' was engraved on the ring of Masrooq. 'al izzatu lillah' was engraved on the ring of on the ring of Imam Baqir. Imam Hasan and Husyn (R.A) didnt see anything wrong engraving name of ALLAH on ring. Imam Nawawi said: and this is the opinion of Majority (of scholars). And some scholars narrated from Ibn e Sireen that he disliked to engrave on rings but Ibn e Abi Shaibah also narrated from Ibn e Sireen with Sahih Chain that he didnt see anything wrong is somebody engrave on his ring 'Hasbiy ALLAH' or something like this. This is the proof that the opinion (of some scholars that Ibn e sireen disliked engraving on rings) is not proved. (And even if it is proved) still it is possible to make two narrations applicable. If somebody's impure (jambi) or in menstruation or the ring is in the hand from which she/he has to cleanse But if one's pure (paak) then there's no dislikeness. It is only disliked (makruh) in already discussed conditions. Allah knows the best.

This evidence is weak because of Yahya Al Basri, he is weak in Hadith (but still supporting the Sahih narration and narration is Sahih). ALLAH knows the best.
