Guadalajara

Guadalajara is the second most important city of México, it is also known as the “Perla de occidente” (Western Pearl). Jalisco state capital, the city is located in the central región of the state, with a population of 1’600,940 inhabitants, becomes the second most populated city of Mexico. The Metropolitan area of Guadalajara also includes the cities of Zapopan, Tlaquepaque, Tonala, Tlajomulco de Zúñiga & El Salto, that together gather 4’434,252 inhabitants according to the census made in 2010.

LOCATIONGuadalajara is located at 1,567mts high above sea level in the west part of the country, with a land’s lenght of 2,734km2; is one of the main cultural, economic, his-tory, industry, and religion centers of México, being really important for the rest of the country.

Guadalajara

Mariachi, Tequila and Charrería, are original from Jalisco, they are the most representative symbols of México in the world and their cultural headquarters in Guadalajara.

• The Word comes form the arabic wadi al-hiyara, that means Stones Valley, although the traditional translation is River of Stone or Strenght’s Valley.

HOST OF BIG EVENTSThe city has been secondary venue for the Olimpic Games México 68, and also of the world championships os futbol soccer in 1970 and 1986; it has hosted di�erent international events such as the first Iberoamerican Summit in 1991, and the Latinoamerican, Caribean, and European Union Summit in 2004. It was named the Culture Capital of America in 2005 and in 2011 there were celebrated the Panamerican Games. In 1987, the convention center “Expo Guadalajara” was opened and during the Panamerican Games it hosted Center of Television, technology, operations and press. Guadalajara has more that 25 thousand hotel rooms and the metropolitan area is national leader in develop and investment on shopping malls.

HOSPITALITYTapatíos (as people from guadalajara are named) are known worldwide for their kindness and their gentle gesture, cha-racteristics that will make you feel as in home or, maybe, even better, and it’s not a cliché, but a reality that can be proven by the large amount of foreigners that come to visit guadalajara and, at the time they notice its charms, they stay.

CURRENCYPeso, o�cial coin of our country, it´s represented by the symbol $. It can be done the Exchange of curren-cies and/or traveler’s checks directly at an Exchange house or bank, we highly recomend to start by changing your currency to dolars and then to peso. Most accepted cards are Visa, Master Card and American Express. But is always better to ask first.

GASTRONOMÍAGuadalajara counts with a large variety of typical dishes, such as Pozole, tamales, tostadas, sopes, enchiladas, tacos, menudo, charros beans; but something that makes it di�erent from the whole country are Tortas Ahogadas, wich are made by a kind of bread called salty virote (only made in this part of the coun-try), with pork meat (known as Carnitas), beans, covered on red tomato sauce with spices; you can add onions with lemon and spicy sauce; a drink also typical from Guadalajara is Tejuino, based on sourdou-gh with lemon ice cream.

Tequila, Jalisco is a “Magical Town” known for giving its name to Tequila, being one of the few territories where it can be produced; it´s located over less than 60km from Guadalajara’s city, in the center-northern region of the state of Jalisco.Tequila Jalisco is pure magic lived through its blue agave landscapes, along its roads and temples full of history. A place where all senses feel flattered through its subtle flavors and fragance, colorfull festivities and traditions that incite you to return some day.

ATTRACTIONS OF TEQUILA JALISCO:

Santiago Apostol’s Temple: wonderful, built in Stone from the XVII century, reflects the sunsets on its front. Highlights its interesting main altarpiece (neo-classic), cherubim and Doric columns that adorn its facade and statue of Santo Toribio Romo in its atrium.Shrine of the Holy Cross: located atop a hill, this ancient sanctuary remodeled, is the meeting point of the devotees for ritual and native dances, come every May 3rd to celebrate the Holy Cross. From there, the view of Tequila is impressive.Tequila Canyon: wonderful place, not far behind in its spectacular view, to take a bath of spring water is a pleasure. Chapel of the Homeless: This site stands out as the first center of the region evangelizing initiative of Fray Juan Calero, who died after the Indian uprising of 1541.National Museum of Tequila: Housed in a nineteenth century mansion, the museum traces the process of making the drink from pre-Hispanic times to the present day. Surprisingly extensive and varied collection of bottles of tequila that exhibits, among which stands out the bottle of the world's largest tequila.

Agave Landscape: The areas close to Tequila Jalisco o�er great attractions to visitors, one of them is the agave landscape, declared World Heritage by UNESCO in 2006.

July 12, 2006, the Mexican region that occurs in tequila was declared a World Heritage site by UNESCO, under the name of agave Landscape and Ancient Industrial Facilities of Tequila.
